"Not this sh*t again.*"

It was even funnier since I played post-game, post-JoH, so she really dealt with a lot.

Am I the only one...

Edit; Ah I see Rascoth agrees with me, but I've seen many people agree with Spork. I guess it depends on how you play tactically...

Tactics? I played through the games four times and JoH once without having to worry about tactics before  I really wasn't expecting it to be an easy fight.
Spoiler

For some people it is an easy fight. That's fantastic :D I don't mind a difficult fight or a challenge. And I don't mind failing either. I just don't see this one being fun. *shrug*

See for me although I obviously love the RP and story aspects of DA, I've also always loved the tactical squad-based pause and play combat. I love pausing, taking control of my companions and having my team co-ordinate for maximum devastation. I use tac-cam a lot in DAI. This is part of why the MP has little appeal to me. It's not how I like to play.

One achievement of BioWare's that I think often gets overlooked is that they make games that can be played so many different ways by different people, not just in terms of RP options but also approach to combat.

Does Dorian have Revival? He can revive himself when he's in that ghost form. Tho he needs proper passive in his Necromancer tree for that to happen.

ahh yeah, I love roleplaying, and story side so much. But dislike having to swap to my companions or pause, I'll hit tactics hotkeys happily, and go to live taccam to move some silly companion out of something ouchy but won't actually control them other then that, it

... wait for it...

Breaks my immersion that I am controlling someone other then my own character when I do.

But your last sentence is spot on! the different ways for people to do simply combat alone is amazing. I need real-time/live time controlling just one character, others prefer full on tactics and micro-managing, however this ends up with rude people trying to tell others they have to play like they do to complete stuff. Got told by some random that I'd never be able to do nightmare playthrough without micromanaging party members, poor soul, seeing as I managed to finish multiple nightmare playthroughs without swapping characters or entering tac-cam mode, or pausing (other then to take screenshots) for that matter.

Sadly that was when the game difficulty glitched if you changed any settings what-so-ever while playing, changing difficulty back to normal even if you never touched that. Stupid achievement is still blank because of it :(

For me I just imagine that I'm shouting combat orders to them "Sera! Get on that high ground!" "Cass! Grab the attention of that hurlock!" "Dorian! Static cage on my mark... Mark!"

Anyone who tells you that their way is the only way to play, even on nightmare, hasn't been paying attention. There are several ways to build your characters and strategies that you can adopt to succeed. Whenever anyone asks me for advice, as Spork did a few weeks back here, I always give caveats that this is just what works for me and other options are available.

Nope. I could respec him though. I always keep a couple spare tactician's amulets nearby ;) I wonder if I should swap out Varric for Sera too, because her tempest talents might do a little more damage.

That's cool if that's what you like. Me, I use tac-cam during the tutorial on the way to the Temple of Sacred Ashes and that's it. I prefer leaving my companions to look after themselves, and they survive alright.... most of the time. Worrying about what Quizzy does is good enough for me.

This :D , my companions only completely failed me during the Descent end guy fight, but it was only when I did it the first time, but that will forever stick in my memory haha.

Though I got into DA for a story, I'm huge fan of combat and planning ahead. Actually before I got into RPG games my main focus were strategic games (mostly Heroes of Might and Magic series). Despite that... I dislike tac cam. I find it way more confusing than normal gameplay. I use it rarely. Still, I find DAI (and previous games) combat really entertaining.

When someone ask about advice for combat, specialisation or anything like that, I like to tell what I like, what I've heard others like and then add that it's the best to try it yourself and see what they like  ;)

If you don't want to, you don't need to. I was just passing what I've learned  :D

I have a question. I was taking my dwarf lady thru prologue.

And this happened. It's not the first time I encountered it, but I wonder if others got it as well. Look at skills.

There are some who are even more extreme than me. I tend to take closer control and use tac-cam more in tougher fights, but let companions do their thing some of the time, too, whereas some totally disable all the automatic tactics and micro-manage every aspect of every fight. As I say, I think BioWare should be commended for making games where such a variety of approaches are feasible and enjoyable.

You're welcome :) I'm happy you like the book too, I can't remember the last book about mages that was such a good read.

Oh me too, that is something I wished would've happened, cause I think Cole would need the reunion with his first friend. <3

Edit: Also I started reading The Masked Empire. As much as I hate the Game, Celene plays it well.

Oh yeah, it gave more insight about mages, the rite of tranquility and the rebellion. I also find that Evangeline, Cullen, Ser Barris and Lysette are examples of what templars are meant to be. Protecting the people, not being jailers or tormentors.

I'm reading Masked Empire too. Celene is ruthless and a master of the Game.

So... Descent. *grumblegrumble*

My first playthrough of DAI on nightmare I used the tactical camera a lot. It really helped.  Now I barely use it when playing nightmare mode since its fairly easy. I even found fighting the 4 despair demons in the Jaws dlc very easy especially on nightmare mode. I compare it to ME3. ME3 was very easy on insanity mode

As far as the Descent dlc is concerned, I watched a playthrough on youtube and thought it looked very easy.

Yeah, I really liked that. Especially the look on tranquility from someone who once was a Tranquil.
