I'd been handling them with no problem. I think it was a Nightmare demon that got thrown in for lolz at the "boss level" rift. I had a system worked out for the rifts that was working with no problem until then. My stealth wore off and bam. I'd even been taking on dragons with no problem. But this was just one of those things. Even Cassandra was worn down to practially nothing, and her armor was well. This game does have some glitches... like a total of 15 tries with no masterworks. That is worse than rolling dice 36 times and not rolling one 7.

About you not getting the masterwork to succeed for you. Before facing the Nightmare demon in the fade, there is a chest on the left side that contains the Essence of Perfection. It will give 100% success to add 10% to stats.

Today I fought a rather elegant battle against the first dragon at Emprise du Lion and won. Then I tried to save the game, and lo! The gods have resurrected that   dragon and I shall have to fight her all over again. It is a pertinent metaphor for my entire day so far. Ironic that it is the last day of the year.

(Yesterday event)

Finally finish my first playthrough. Get a huge hug from Cullen in front of everyone (oh oh oh, who say that he's timid? Kissing on the battlement in front of all soldiers passing behind, hugs in front of everyone, nuh uh).

In any case, this journey with my beloved inquisitor Elena Trevelyan had come to the end. Thank you Bioware for this 100 hours pure joy, it had been a pleasure.

(Today)

Can't stop myself, making a new Inquisitor: Luthiel Lavellan. :P

She's so sweet!

Killed the last 3 dragons (Visnomer is a nasty one with that lightning field) and then said good-bye to my broken-hearted elf assassin, Andariel. I moved all my save games, for later sorting, to another folder and started up with my human mage, Julia. She is most definitely Andrastian, and is completely smitten after a 2 second meeting in the middle of a battle, with Cullen. With the help of a strange apostate elf named Solas, she was able to close some small Fade rifts and stabilize the Breach. After several meetings, and a truce of sorts offered by Cassandra, she's just about ready to start exploring the Hinterlands, in search of Mother Giselle and ways to gain influence for this newly formed Inquisition.

Yeah, I remember Visnomer being one of the tougher dragons. Didn't have any real defense against the lightning except for the K-E's neverending barrier -- can't recall if I had a staff with fade-touched obsidian (for the guard) in it by then or not. I suppose if I went back 15 pages or so, I could find out, heh, but who wants to do that?

How was it playing a DW rogue through to the end? I was kinda debating respeccing Harold to DW instead of an archer, but then I started killing dragonlings on the Storm Coast with the Long Shot ability and ...well, that kinda ended the debate.  B)

But other input is always welcome, cause I could always save my up-close-and-personal-combat Inquisitor for a warrior PT.

Let's see...I was in the Western Approach last night when I ran into a bunch of varghests attacking a bunch of bandits - which meant that I immediately had to jump into the fight (hey, I needed some entertainment!). Apparently, varghests seem to understand the whole "enemy of my enemy" concept - which is why they AND the bandits decided to then gang up on me. Oops! Needess to say, it did not go well for either the varghests or the bandits.

At last we made it to Crestwood. I help the folks in Crestwood and deal with the undead.

I meet Hawkes friend, Alistair. He doesn't have many nice things to say about the Hero of Fereldon. He mentions the Grey Wardens are in the Western Approach. Fine. Lets go.

Who's this clown? He's just a puppet of Corypheus.  What a wimp? Ok. Lets head to Adamant.

I avoid killing any Wardens that don't need to be killed. And there's the clown again. Here comes the dragon. Now I'm in the fade. What the heck is this crap? Is this suppose to be some scary place or something? Hardly? You want scary, go to my world.

Here's the Divine. Not. It explains I can get my memories back. Now that it mentioned it, I don't recall exactly how I got here. Lets collect my memories. Now I see what happened. When the breach opened, it was some how able to open some rift in my world pulling me into this one and into this mortals body. I look around. The others look at me wide-eyed. They are scared and have every right to be. Fortunately Cassandra gathers her wits and tells everyone to forget about what they saw and pay attention to the task at hand. Thank you Cassandra.

As we approach the Nightmare demon, I decide to erase their minds of what they saw about me and for them to only know I wasn't sent by Antraste thing or whatever. My power has grown very strong. In one move the demon is gone. Lets get out of here.

Lets see. Remember that commercial about the credit card? I believe it was mastercard. How did it go? Ah yes.

Hawke left in fade. Varric greatly disapproves - check

ally with the Wardens. Solas greatly disapproves - check

punching Solas in the mouth at Skyhold - priceless.

My advisors tell me Corypheus is heading to the Arbor Wilds. Whatever. Lets go. Fight through a lot of the red templar things. So this is the temple of Mythal. No time for sightseeing. Skip the ritual thing that Morrigan talks about. Fight our way in to face some ancient elves guarding the place. We fight them. Again Solas greatly disapproves. I bet if someone were to accidently bump into him he would greatly disapprove. He needs a drink. Actually a lot of drinks.

I let Morrigan drink from the well. Back at Skyhold, I learn that Corypheus retreated to some unknown place. He's on the run. He is weak. Good. I'm nearly back to my old self. He will experience power like never before when we face each other and I will send you to my world to face my master.

Today I have mostly focused my energies on making a decent looking male Inquisitor for my second run.  "It'll be easy, right?" I said to myself.  "Surely I will have learned something in the 20 hours it took me to make my female IQ."  Haha, nope.

Morrigan let us into the Servant's quarters where I found some very damning evidence. I checked out the garden and found a corpse, and ran into wing of the palace where we ran into Venatori agents and Briane. Briane claimed to know nothing about it, but offered her aid as a network of agents. She said we had to expose Gaspard's doing. I wasn't trusting anyone at the moment. This is Orlais and Orlais is the capital of intrigue. I on the other hand do the dirty work. I think the Venatori sent their entire assassination unit to the palace, but they're all dead now.

Leiliana was urging me to back Gaspard, despite his crimes. Josie was backing Celene. Cullen was not sure.

I met Duchess Florianne, and danced with her, and I played very coy on the dance floor, not wanting to tip my hand that I knew she was behind it. She suggested I go into the Royal wing which I did and I looked for more evidence there. All I found was more Venatori agents, and eventually the trail led to Florianne. She had her Venatori open a rift to kill me and "bring her my hand as proof." As if that would stop me. We acquired a Fereldan agent in the process.

I confronted her in front of the Empress. The Empress pronounced her guilty and said she would be arrested and held for trial. I chose to use my authority as Inquisitor to carry out the verdict with extreme prejudice. No one complained.... except for Cassandra, Solas, Cole, Blackwall, Vivienne, Cole, Iron Bull... I think Sera was the only one who liked the idea of the knife disrupting the entire party.

Morrigan met with me afterward and informed me that Celene assigned her to Skyhold. It sounds like she will be an asset. There is something very mysterious about her though.

We met with Celene and Briane, and I told Celene that we would not have found out about Gaspard without Briane.

When I returned to Skyhold I found one of the reverend mothers arguing with Leiliana about returning to Orlais along with Cassandra so that one of them could become the Divine. What? Now? They're essential people! Wait until after we've defeated Corypheus. Leiliana would have gone if I had not intervened. I find Cassandra far more grounded than Leiliana, and I think she would make an excellent Divine. The Chantry needs someone who can reorganize it and institute a lot of reforms. I like the way she believes. She has my backing.

Then I had to judge Florianne's remains. I sentenced them to community service.

Sullastine and the crew got back in the saddle again after a long and painful time dealing with a seemingly endless sandstorm in the Hissing Wastes. It seems not everyone in the group was idle, however, as Iron Bull quickly aired Dorian's dirty laundry to the group. Cassandra made a disgusted noise but gracefully covered it over by claiming that the dust of the waste had gotten into her throat. As the banter between Dorian and Bull continued, the dust seemed to become quite a problem for Cass. Sullastine suspects she was regretting her earlier decision to turn Bull down.

So it seems that the story of the Hissing Waste is that when dwarves come above ground, they look for places only slightly less desolate than what they are used to underground, choosing places that are sandy and hot as a furnace to simulate their home. Between the evidence in the Wastes and Valammar, Sullastine is reasonably sure she never wants to visit Orzammar. She's sure she'll melt.

It wasn't all fun in the endless dunes. They did take some time to revisit Crestwood and down the Northern Hunter. The beast really put up much less of a fight than it's cousin in the Hinterlands. Bull was somewhat depressed, but Dorian cheered him right up later on.

I felt pretty underpowered until I got to level 7 or 8 or so. I also took forever to go to Crestwood so I was pretty high level before I unlocked assassin. I just respected afterwards to concentrate on specialist abilities though. Subterfuge tree is your friend  but due to the 8 slot limit, I found myself looking for passives (in any tree) to pick rather than more active ones that I'd have to switch all the time. I was doing major damage by the end, though, and with guard-generating armor and weapon was pretty hard to kill. Of course, I was playing on casual which had a lot to do with it.  ;) I might move up to normal for my new game now that I've got the hang of the controls.

Even with my mage, I found I was taking a lot of passive skills. Of course, once I got the spirit blade I didn't need anything else... except Energy Barrage, heh. I play on casual too, I find the combat challenging enough to still be fun, for my style of play anyway. It's just... last time I leveled up, I was looking at the rogue melee skill tree and some of those abilities look really fun to try out. And then, during a fade rift fight, I did 1000+ damage with a single Long Shot -- at level 8. I was impressed, and I thought, "okay I'm gonna stick with this for a while." ...Still, I may respec a little later.

Today, Harold wrapped up a few things on the Storm Coast, including watching Visnomer kill a giant. Bull wanted to fight the dragon, and I'm sure he was this close to just jumping into the sea and going after it, but Viv calmly said, "Not today, my dear." and Bull slinked back onshore with a meek, "yes Ma'am." *

Then the crew went back to Haven. Harold had found the Bane of Red Crossing in the Astrarium Cave on the Coast, so he scooped the +16 dexterity grip he'd crafted for Skeeter and attached it to his new bow, then gave Skeeter to Sera. I'm sure Sera will come up with some interesting tales about it while she sits in the tavern at Haven all day  Harold also crafted a sturdy new dragonling scale and bear hide coat for himself, which should help a bit when fighting despair demons. Looks pretty snazzy, I must say.

Happy New Year!!! (I know this is a bit late but better late than never).

Right so I left my companions in Val Royeaux, I went over to the bard and she is still singing in French (I am still in shock about this). She was singing 'Sera Was Never' and I think it was even more catchier in French. Then I bought some decorations which I know I will never use but I need to have a complete set. So I am quite happy to spend my coin on things that I am not going to use

I went back to Skyhold and I crafted some new 'enchanted arms' for Vivienne. I haven't really focused on crafting the armour add-ons such as greaves/arms but now I realised that this changes the actual look to an outfit. So I will probably be spending more time crafting. I added the 'arms' to Vivienne's outfit and she looks as though she is wearing shoulder pads.

I decided to go back to the Exalted Plains to finish some of the missions. I got to the leader of one of the pits and he was wearing what looked like a floppy chef toque (mask included). I thought to myself, I hope I get this as loot when this is over. It didn't happen -_-

My party was Iron Bull, Cole and Vivienne. Bull/Cole decide to talk yet again about the inquisitor/bull relationship in front of Vivienne. The conversation somehow got to Cole asking what an Orlesian tickler is?. Which left the inquisitor feeling like this  :pinched: yet again. I finished most of the quests in Exalted plains and the dragon is the only thing of interest left to do there.

I have just unlocked the Emprise du Lion area and I will explore tomorrow. I wasn't planning on doing all the side quests on this playthrough but I have somehow got into the habit of doing them again. My main goal is to kill all the dragons (to get the achievement) whilst I am still playing on normal.

I also loaded my nightmare inquisitor up just to level up in preparation of the Envy Demon later.

A hungover Nang Fa decided she didn't want to go Dragon hunting, she wanted to do something nice and relaxing, like... bringing peace to Orlais:

Spoiler

Sera then threw a fit because she imagined Nang Fa was taken by the Maker or something ridiculous. It was endearing, in a way. Make up sex was had. Then she strolled about Skyhold talking to people, among Cassandra and Leliana who're considered for Divine. Told Cassandra it was a bad idea, Leliana as well. She hoping to get Vivienne in the seat, if she's an option. Also went to some chantry with Leliana where she watched her kill in cold blood. Nice.

She went to Emprise du Lion. Snoufleurs were harmed (Fade Touched Snoufleur skin was acquired), rifts were closed, camps/strongholds liberated (though Suledin Keep still has to be taken), tier 3 metals were gathered and Judicael's restored. New armor was crafted. Though this is the Super Dragon Armor she's feels like she has been wearing in previous lives.

Currently debating with myself if I should exploit Vallamar for another hour in hope for a better tier 3 bow and armor for both myself and Cassanda. I doubt I'll find a better weapon for Cassandra, the Templar mace is just amazing. Or if I should try to take Suledin keep and see what this does to Bonnie Sims' dialogue, or go hunt the lowest level dragon still remaining, or do some personal quests

Probably the latter two. I'll try to take down the Gamorran Stormrider and along the way I can take down the Snowy Wyvern for Vivienne.
