DAO Talia update

Finished Return to Ostagar and not killing Flemeth. I thought for a second I might tell Morrigan her mother wasn't really dead, or even sorta temporarily dead, but letting her believe otherwise was more fun. :P

Now I'm in the Brecilian Forest about to barter with crazy hermit guy for the rest of his stuff. I got the acorn already but apparently you can't trade with him anymore once you go through the barrier, and I want the codex entry from the book he gives you. I actually think this is my least favorite area, though the ruins are interesting. I also just want to slap Zathrian every time he speaks.

You know, I've heard tales of red templars popping up for people in this area.  I've never once had it happen, and I've played the game like 12 times.  LOL.  Funny what happens randomly.  I did have a bear take out the templars in the Hinterland that Cassandra was hunting.  That was hilars.

I probably depends on level and whether your sided with mages or Templars.

How about in the adjacent area, where the dragon does some air-to-ground attacks before flying off to the combat area? The area where the ocularum is? I've had RT spawn in that area every time I've sided with the Templars. Before and after defeating the dragon.

Never never not once.  And only once did I ever side with the Templars.  But not even in that PT.  I got nuthin.

In other news... I killed the dragon... but I did not shoot the deputy..

She really is kind of pretty with the red and aqua coloration.  Side note, I tried to farm her corpse only to come back and find the skull gone.  I left two things in it on purpose!  Jerks.  Adam wants to make some better armor for some of his companions.  I'm thinking of going to the Frostbacks and procrastinating there.  I can farm those rifts for veil quartz and whatnot...

You never should have let the Bull's Chargers live, that was your mistake. You'll find the skull and loot at the Winter Palace 2 years from now ...

No. I've had taken both choices and RTs don't turn up until this PT. They don't even appear in the area where the shards and red lyrium are, before or after dragon is killed.

I find that for dragon fights, it's better to take control of the Inq because the A.I. for this kind of fight is not very good. The greater dmg comes from the warrior and the A.I. is not making good use of the dmg skills. I was in control of Solas at first and watch the hp of the Inq drop to half while the dragon's is at 9/10th. Once I took control of the Inquisitor, the dragon's health began to go down faster. So I guess Solas is better at going about (he moves lightly, no stomping) and taking out the common mobs at range but dragons? That's the 2H male / female warrior Inq's specialty.

sneaky,sneaky,sneaky warden.....well done.

I always speak to the hermit when i want someone that will listen my character
since he is the only one who is interested in the warden personal life and the only one who care to ask questions to you in the bloody game, because with all the others characters is the opposite way around.

Nightscrawl taught me how to mod crafting material colors. Be afraid.

@Forsythia: I have Red Templars spawning in that area repeatedly, and I've even had them join the fight against the dragon (as both adversaries and allies, as they attack both you and the dragon with equal fervor). I had them steal my kill one time, when the dragon flew to the nest and they were camped there. Devsin, a very experienced gamer who I'm pretty sure is involved in game design somehow, explained the conditions under which it happens:

- You have to recruit the mages.

- You have to claim the Dusklight camp but not venture into the valley beyond before meeting with the mages in the course of In Hushed Whispers.

- You have to complete the journey to Skyhold before resolving Mercenary Fortress

- You have to complete the journey to Skyhold before venturing into the valley.

That pretty much sums up my Hinterlands plan, so it's probably no surprise that I get Red Templars there a lot.

Story-wise, it seems the mining camp was established by the Carta. They were trying to horn in on the red lyrium trade, but the dragon put a kink in their plans. They brought in mercenaries to deal with the dragon and any incidental travelers, but the dragon won. The Red Templars were better suited to take over where the mercenaries left off.

But really, knowing what we know about red lyrium and how it propagates, it isn't really all that surprising to find Red Templars there, is it?

Poor Talia....while she's trying to romance Zevran, he's shamelessly flirting with Leliana (trying to make Talia jealous, perhaps?) and Alistair is offering her roses. I reloaded my game and then didn't talk to Al so I wouldn't get that conversation. Unfortunately, it happened right after the shriek attack at camp and now I can't talk to him about that until I do the rose talk again. Argh.

Finished up Brecilian Forest (had Zathrian end the curse...again) and am now in Orzammar. Gotta love real dwarves. B) Also, Sten is quite a bit bigger than everyone else. I never noticed that before.

That shouldn't be surprising but he must be the odd one; the size of his head fits his bod. :D But then,  I always think that Sten isn't a true blood qunari.

Went to Hissing Wastes. The one thing I don't like is that chars can walk on top of outcrops but when it comes to attacking, you're pulled back down to the ground. Too, while controlling Solas, he's pulled right down among the wyverns at the bottom even though he was at the top of the stairs when he landed the first spell among the wyverns. wtf

Stayed out of the way of the fauna fight. The two wyverns on the right took down the gurn and then went to attack the RTs' camp. :D  RTs went down.

Spoiler

Then Rathar, the guy Inquisitor, went to talk to Cass. There's no cutscene since the war table mission to find the Seekers isn't done yet so he picked the topic on her brother. Problem is...she's talking to an object...

This is another first for me.

@Berelinde  - Who knew all that had to happen?  Well obviously you.  LOL.  While I do play the game slightly differently each time I've never actually done it in that order I suppose.  I usually do the Mercenary Fortress fairly early.  Typically I try to make my way around and establish all the camps in the Hinterlands so I can have the fast travel waypoints.  Once I kill all the bears in Hafter's Woods I make my way over there to get the last couple landmarks (conspicuously avoiding the level 12 rifts by the farms and the one over there in Hafter's Woods until I'm stronger).  I'll have to put that in the back of one of my mental filing cabinets for a future PT..

Anyhoodles.. in Adam's game..We went to the Emerald Graves...

Why is this broseph at Villa Muriel so.. big?  Is he part giant?  Is Cassandra part dwarf?  You decide!

This loot bag is never worth the effort.. Never!  But still, I get it every time...

12299138_10153237805941088_7679552400215

Adam and co cleared out Argon's Lodge and and started working on Cullen's quest, before I fell asleep on the couch like the old I am.  :)

Also,  I am quite proud of this armor/staff combo for Adam.  It's mage armor, not rogue armor, but I've managed to get him up to 82% critical hit chance.  Highest I've ever gotten using mage armor.  I think I have a ring on that helps.

It never made sense to me, but the bosses are always about 50% bigger than the rest of the mooks. I can imagine how it went.

Some Chantry sister in Jader: Tsk, tsk, poor Duhaime.

Another one: Indeed, such a tragic waste.

Chancellor Irrelevant: What are you two on about? He's a fine, strapping lad.

The first sister: Look at the size of him. You just know he's going to wind up in a boss battle at some point.

I was surprised to get Sera's pranks so early on in this playthrough (it was so much later for my other Inquisitors). They are becoming firm friends. I love how that happens in this game. I hardly used her, or Iron Bull, in my last couple of playthroughs, but they regularly go adventuring with Thomas and Dorian and I'm enjoying their team dynamic.

MJZexjB.jpg

I haven't been able to play for a week, so I thought I'd do something substantial once I had my hands on the game, so it was off to the ball. This quest took two hours, which is my shortest time yet I think. The first time took practically all day and I messed up so badly. I've always enjoyed this quest, even though it has its frustrations.

I may have, quite possibly, got carried away at the tinting table and overdone the Royale Sea Silk . Maybe Josephine ordered too much and we promised to use it up, Julie Andrews style...

I do that, too. No matter what armor folks have for the rest of the game, they get matching armor for the Winter Palace. Yes, I know that no one who isn't coming at the party with a drawn weapon will ever see it, but they don't know that. For all the Inquisitor knows, they'll be spending the afternoon doing team melee tournament style or something, and the matching armor would unify their look.

*choked* Just had the Cass's "I can't believe you're serious about courting me" scene. :D  Ahh Cass. She's funny and cute all at once.

Reload to an earlier save, going to do this scene again after the Palace visit because the stupid scaffolding kept clipping the scene. Just distracting; chars walking through wood.

Also pondering on *gasp* changing the class for the next Inq. Mage, because Solas is so easy to handle but terrible against dragons. He might as well be puffing snowballs on them for all the dmg he does. The warrior still deals out the greatest dmg (Yes, I know all about rogues and their super whatever dmg, not interested in playing rogues) If I do make one, she'll be the only second human mage in existence in all three games.

Also considering maybe making an elven mage   (not for romancing Solas either, I still consider him a guide / friend, no where in the LI range). wow if I do, she'll be the only elf out of three DA games. But given all the input that an elf Inq dialogue is out of sync when it comes to elven lore she should know,  given her own elfy background, it doesn't sound attractive.

Playing an elf mage wasn't nearly so headdesk-inducing with the "Yes, we know about Mythal" mod. It's skips over the "What's that?" question when you first arrive in Arbor Wilds, and also skips Inqui asking about the various gods when you click on the mosaics in the temple. Unfortunately, Morrigan still pretends to be a know it all, and Solas is still insufferably vague. :P

Talia is still kicking around Orzammar. Explored the Diamond Quarter, observed the deadlock in the Assembly first-hand, fought a small dragon in the palace, and met with both representatives. Made her first foray into the Deep Roads looking for Lord Dace. Decided to fight for Harrowmont in the Proving since Bhelen is a liar and a thug (will do the matches tomorrow). I usually metagame Bhelen to the throne since it's a better outcome for the dwarves (and also for future game quests) but I might go with Harrowmont this time.

Back at camp, Talia finally got to 75 approval with Zevran to trigger the cheesy romance scene. Have to say, that was quite the massage.

Noo, Rathar didn't get to dance with Cass. Guess her approval of him isn't that high. After all, he kept denying he's holy, Herald of Andraste and all that. Josie appeared instead at the balcony. What a disappointment, Rathar opted to go home. :D

I think I got that dance with her with the first guy Inq. I believed I read up on it and hit all the key notes to get high approval from Cass but it always settled on me as cheating; faking belief just to win that approval.  Hopefully Rathar can still romance her. :D

If you want to dance with Cass, you have to do her romance quest. That means that you have to go to Crestwood and meet Hawke to get her Promises of Destruction quest, do it, and then have the conversation about the flirting. If you haven't completed either HLTA or WEWH at that point, your character will be walking straight through scaffolding during that conversation. Irrelevant, but I mention it because it's hilarious. And then you have to complete her romance quest and sleep with her. Then you can dance with her.

But yeah, Rathar can probably still complete the romance, as long as you can get Promises of Destruction and The Perfect Romance done before What Pride Has Wrought.

I took down the Ferelden Frostback to get the Trial of the Empress. It felt so odd to wait that long to tackle it, I went for it as soon as my companions hit level 16. I gave Viv the Blade of Tidarion as I thought it would keep her in melee distance. This worked quite well, until she got one-shotted by a fireball while trying to dispense a healing mist. Sorry I laughed, Viv.

I've always looted this armour on the way back from killing the dragon (because all-the-things), but I don't think I've ever looked at it before. It has to be the most awful, depressing armour in the game.

I got PoD but not the Perfect Romance before going to the Winter Palace. Ah well, doesn't matter, I saved Rathar from dancing. :D  PR still went off well.

Didn't get Viv either for this PT.  I really think she doesn't make much diff except as an optional 3rd mage for party choices. I don't miss her absence at all. I'm having fun with Solas's specialization .  Firestorm is wow. Just got the Rift skill, going to see how good he's going to be as he levels up.

Talia survived the rose conversation with Alistair and actually let him down easy enough to get +1 approval. I don't think the game properly cut off the romance though because he is still listed at "care" level of approval. I'm going to feel really bad feeding him to Morrigan for the DR later.

But, back to business. Talia won the Proving for Harrowmont and then took out Jarvia. I think this might be the first time ever I got through that fight with no one dying. Now she's found a slightly less drunk Oghren and signed him up for the trek to the Deep Roads to look for Branka. She's also got Zevran and Shale along. I almost always bring Shale for the meeting with Caradin; the one time I didn't was when I was going for the "keep the Anvil" achievement. Oddly enough, I didn't need to keep Branka alive to get it, which was nice.
