Still working on my true self-insert. Man I miss Leaping Shot.
So "Me", has now made it to Skyhold. I have most of the trials on, and (in case anyone remembers) I have rules set up, to mimic what I believe I would be capable of doing (in combat, and too a degree in dialogue options/quests I would take).
Both In Hushed Whispers and In Your Heart Shall Burn, were trying for me. I got one-shot by a promoted RT Knight (at least I think it was an RT Knight
), during IYHSB. Not a peep from "ma peeps". Feeling the love, guys.
lol!!
At Skyhold I accepted my newly promoted role, crafted with Dagna, made out with Solas, and talked to my new spec trainers. I have always planned on going with Artificer, since it is the only specialization I could rationalize (based on my rules). BUT!!! This throws off my logistic plans, on how I was going to proceed through the main storyline. GAH! You see, I had originally planned to do WE&WH's before Adamant, this time (usually do the other way around), but I was still going to do Crestwood first - much of that is because I would feel it as a pressing matter for two reasons: One, Mother Giselle has been prattling on about the troubles in Crestwood since Haven, and two, finally starting to unravel the troubles with the wardens and their potential connection to the problems at hand, seems urgent.
Now back to my problem with the Artificer spec I want to take. Since I had never played as one before, I never bothered to look at the requisition order. It requires Alpha Quillback quills! Dammit!! Now if I want my spec before going off to WE&WH's, I will have to go to the Western Approach first. The reason I didn't want to do that, is because I wanted to do WE&WH's first. When just regular rping, I can suspend much more of my disbelief in things I do, within the game. But for this run, I needed a certain logic to apply. Western Approach is pretty damn far to the west of Skyhold. By waiting to do that with Oasis and Hissing waste (then going on to Adamant), it seemed more plausible and efficient (which is something I am apt to do in real life....hence why it was important to me in this self-insert experiment).
This means, I need to either just turn a blinds eye, go to Western Approach (maybe I just go ONLY for the quills, and pretend I found some merchant in VR that sells exotic items, who I really got the quills from), or I abandon my initial plans to do WE&WH first, and do Abyss instead. OR....I just do Western Approach, muster up my suspension of disbelief, and let the logic/efficiency slide for a moment, then go back to following my original plan: Open up Exalted Plains and take care of ramparts and Celene's people stuck in the Citadel, and then do WE&WH's.
Any thoughts, suggestions, votes? Would be much obliged.
Okay, a few suggestions, in increasing hand-wavy headcanon excusiveness (is that a word?)
1. Do Crestwood > Western Approach towards Adamant, but then the day of the Empress's ball is nigh
You talk to the mysterious stranger that Hawke vouches for in Crestwood and you even find out what the evil Magister is up to in the Western Approach, but you must break off the pursuit and delay the siege of Adamant because the date of the ball at Halamshiral has arrived.
2. The Inner Circle and the War Table demand that the Inquisitor tour all scout camps
Before proceeding to WEWH, your advisors urge that you tour all of Scout Harding's camps to get a sense for the state of Fereldan and Orlais and to discover any clues towards the mysterious Coryphish. Then, when you are passing through the Western Approach, you can collect some necessaries.
This is good option if you have oodles of Power already, since you'll burn a bunch of it opening every zone. If you run low on Power, there are always rifts to close. Or, even better, let the Power meter be a representation of time passing towards the date of the ball. If it falls below the amount needed to start WEWH, close a rift or two and depart for Halamshiral. Just make sure you start at the Oasis and work your way back.
3. You are on your way to Halamshiral, when an urgent message arrives that requires your presence in the Western Approach, because of ... reasons
A dragon was sighted? A party of Orlesian academics has gone missing in the WA and you don't want to show up at the Empress's doorstep and have to explain why you ignored it? Dagna is running low on lazurite and needs more to finish your gift for the Empress?
4. Dorian passes on a tip about Venatori activity in the Western Approach
He says it is urgent that they depart immediately to investigate. Yes, it's way out of the way and will take forever to get back to prepare for the ball, but it could be vitally important!
5. Solas detects a disturbance in the Force ... I mean, the Fade
Solas says that he dreamed about a silent fortress in the Western Approach that contains a powerful artifact and possible clues to the mystery of Coryphish. He says that he will investigate alone while you go on ahead to Halamshiral, but you will miss your main squeeze and would worry too much about him, so you insist on coming along (while everyone else rolls their eyes at your hopeless besottedness).
6. Three-Eyes slaps a contraption on your wrist that compels you to go to the Western Approach
Three-Eyes mind-controls you and you can't help yourself. You drag everyone to the Western Approach to go quill hunting. As soon as you return to Skyhold with the goods, Three-Eyes removes the contraption and you snap back to normal. And throw him in the dungeon. But he escapes and he waits until you cool down before he returns to complete your training.
