Spork - what is FRAPS?

www.fraps.com

It's a screen-capture program. It can be set to automatically take screenies in intervals of one second or greater, so you don't have to press the screenshot button all the time. It can be also used to take videos of your games, although the free version of the program takes pretty crappy videos. it runs in the background, and is hotkey-enabled. It can be a bit of a resource hog, so you might notice some lag, especially with videos... but if you have a good gaming rig, it's really nonobtrusive.

I like it. I just took 3500 screenshots of "In Your Heart Shall Burn"   :D ... Now I have to sort through them.  :?

I need advice!  I'm going to do Champions of the Just when I play DA: I next, and I want some recommendations on who's the best companions to bring along for banter/dialogue purposes.

I took Cassandra, Sera and Bull. They were my go-to party in my first game, though Blackwall/Bull were fairly interchangeable.

Gotta be a bit careful with Sera because, depending on your dialogue choices she disapproves of a lot. That's the same with any choice in the game, I guess, with any of the companions. But some of her disapprovals are kinda sneaky, given who you'll be dealing with. If her approval matters to you -- it did to me, I was romancing her -- then I would make choices with her particular outlook in mind.

That's all the advice I've got. I picked the mages this time.

If you are experiencing FPS drops with Fraps, change the directory of where the screenshots/videos are stored. They must not be on the same disc where the game is.

The journal says 10/10 and I got a war table mission afterwards about dragon research.

I am hoping it is just a delayed reaction because of my slow internet speed but I will try again tomorrow. :crying:

There's no wartable mission. At least, I've never seen it, and I've gottenm the achievement the first time I slew 10/10 dragons.

I did not know that. Cool. Must've been why my games of ME3 were lagging.

Apart from every scene that has Morrigan in it, In Your Heart Shall Burn is probably my favorite part of the whole game. In a game filled with a lot of great moments (for me anyway), it is epic. Not just the attack, but everything that comes after it, right up to arriving in Skyhold.

I do love to take screenies. Haven't done too many for DA:I yet, but I have had -- stupid reformat without backing up d'oh! -- thousands for the ME trilogy. I may have to get FRAPS running for this part, heh.

The main quests have wonderful cinematics! Fraps all the way!

Thanks obvious_shining for the tips :)

I'll say Cassandra is a must ;)

I remember that the war table mission unlocked as soon as I defeated the Ravager dragon. So I don't know if it unlocks for this particular dragon or when all 10 are defeated.

Killed my first dragon (on this playthrough anyway).

Spoiler

Question:
Does anyone know if dead party members receive xp? 'Cause I don't think my two dead party members received any from killing the dragon.

Edit: Nevermind, they did receive xp.

Also, Knight-Enchanters FTW.

I'm not sure to be honest. I defeated the Western Approach dragon very late (I think it was about the 8th dragon). So with me recruiting Frederic late, it may have just popped up after defeating the last dragon. :)

Yeah, that would be it. Frederic is necessary for that war table mission.

I just learned that the Promote Barris sq is bugged, so I apparently have to unlock another judgment before I can trigger the cutscene.

Man, Minaeve is nasty when you tell her she should've been Dalish...

For good reasons, but damn, I could feel the hatred.

edit: lol, I thought only Qunari could hit the lamp down in the chantry in Haven, but it appears I was wrong. When you equip the Staff of the Dragon, it can hit the lamp too :P

Well, after thrashing dragons on normal (with a little work) it's kind of back to being thrashed by some dragons on Nightmare (despite my KE-ness). The other night was kind of a deja vu thing when I had to run from Swampy the Magical Electric Dragon in the Exalted Plains. I think I'm going to finish the shard quests to get my resistances up, and make better gear (I need some silveriiiiiiiiiite). I'm kind of waiting until I get more schematics, too - heh.

So, today Harold the Herald Inquisitor took a quick tour around his new home. It's a mess. I can't even go into the tavern for a beer yet. It's okay, though. I saw scout Harding standing just outside. She claimed she was in Skyhold for troop rotation, but I know she'll get that tavern operational soon. She gets sh*t done.

Talked with all my companions, and made some tough choices. Decided not to recruit Cole this time. My little elf mage had a really tough time getting him to like anything she did, and this time I'm already playing a rogue, so Cole would be just sitting up in the rafters of the tavern most of the time again anyway. Next game I'll be playing a warrior and siding with the templars, so I'll take Cole out on missions and get more initial character development out of him. Looking forward to it. I like Cole, just... not this time. Solas really hates me now. That's okay, though. To use Sera's words, he can go "p*ss up a rope."  :P I mean, uhhh, sit in his little round room and contemplate spirits.

Speaking of Sera, I also sent her packing this time. She's really harshing Harold's "I am Andraste's chosen one" buzz, and again since I'm already a rogue she won't be accompanying me anywhere. Besides, I romanced her last game. Any other kind of relationship with her just doesn't feel right, yet. Thinking about it now, though, I should have kept her around just for the dialogues. Oh well. There's always next game. Hmm, I wonder if she took Skeeter with her when she left. Update: She did! That *****! I guess I shouldn't be surprised. She is a thief after all.

I had the privilege of running into Swampy way before I was prepared to fight her. Didn't end well, predictably.

Ugh, Swampy can be tough. It sure doesn't help having a poisonous bog all around you, either. Good luck with that one :)

Wahy Levellan, Chapter 2a: Waking up in Haven

After putting on her fancy new armor and dashing staff, which were delivered to her cabin, Wahy ventured outside and saw a horde of people waiting for her. From what she could hear, she was now somewhat revered... as the Herald of a Shemlen God.. or demi-God or whatever. She moved on to speak to Cassandra in the Chantry. Along the way she heard more 'rumors' about herself. These Shemlens really like to talk.

Just before she got to Casandra, she heard Cass bickering with Chancelor Roddick. It appears the now less angry Templar is on her side. Good.
Spoiler

After this little Shemlem bickering party, where Cassandra reinstated the Inquistion, Wahy was supposed to talk, among others, the blacksmith. But she decided elsewise. She immediatly returned to the Chantry, where she got introduced to Cullen and Josephine, and finally got a proper introduction of Leliana.

Wahy's sensing an overabundance of Shemlen in the Inquisition.

She got access to the map of Southern Thedas. She ordered the scouts to go the Hinterlands, but didn't immediatly go there herself. She sent out her advisers to do some missions first. Or well, not her advisors in person, most likely her agents, cause they never seem to leave Haven. Contact was made with her own clan using the idea of that cute Shemlen woman Josephine.

She then went to see Josephine in her office:
Spoiler

After this nice display by Josephine, the Marquis left and granted us our stay in Haven. Wahy then talked to Josephine about who she is, why she's with the Inquisition and whatnot. Basically, it was an interrogation veiled as a normal conversation.

In Jospehine's office, there was also a city dwelling Elf mage who's the Inquistion's creature researcher. After talking to her about her for a while and suggesting she would've been better off if she were Dalish, Minaeve's eyes lit up in rage and she told Wahy not to let the absensce of Vallaslin fool her; she was in fact born with the Dalish, but left to fend on her own after they discovered she had magical powers.. at the age of 7. Yikes, the cruelty. That would never have happened in the Levellan clan. Turns out we Dalish aren't all that good ourselves.

She left the chantry on her way to see the Inquisition's alchemist, a not so chatty nor friendly guy who really doesn't want to do the job he's doing. Great, hope he doesn't turn our potions into poisions that eat you from the inside.

Outside of the alchemist's house was the other Elf, Solas, the one without Vallaslin but who apparantly has never been in an alienage nor is he Dalish, who appears to know a little too much about what's going on with the Breach. She decided to talk to him:
Spoiler

And then she questioned him: about the Fade, the ancient Elves (of which he seems to know a great deal through his... Fade walking), other Dalish and the Breach. So much knowledge, such a calm, soothing voice.

But there's something not quite right here...

Tune in again tomorrow for chapter 2b
I told you this was gonna take forever. Reading every codex entry and taking every investigate option again, like the first time (except Codex entries, have never read them, this is the first time), to really get into my character, is going to take a loooong time.

But the Blood Lotus codex entry is hilarious.

Go to the store in the Hissing Wastes; it's in a canyon, guarded by a single friendly Mabari, cause the owner is gone (true story! lol), but it sells amazing tier 3 armors. And if you get the shortlist perk in the connections tree, it sells masterwork tier 3 armors, which are the best in the game.

Dorian has just informed Lyell that he is not a nature person, preferring cities. Thankyou Dorian.

Lyell has just taken out Templar Carroll (jeepers that felt good) although I wish I could have done it with Queen Theirin. Having said that however, there is a nifty mod that allowed her to kick Carroll into Lake Calenhad. :D

Back to Lyell - he has taken out Carroll and in the estate grounds is a little hut thing that has four torches for Lyell to light with his magic thumb. Is this a puzzle because they keep going out? B)  I'm too brain lazy for puzzles.

I am back at Skyhold and just finished Adamant. It turns out everyone now wants to talk to the inquisitor and request help for their problems. I got missions/requests from Varric, Dorian, Vivienne, Solas, Cole, Blackwall, Leliana, Dagna, Bonny and even the bard. I guess everyone at Skyhold lives through the saying 'a problem shared is a problem halved' but not for the poor inquisitor

After doing all of these side-quests, the only thing left for the inquisitor to do is start the Arbor Wilds mission but I haven't started this yet because I know I am getting close to the end for this playthrough. So I decided to search for some mosaic pieces which gives me an excuse to hear more banter. I collected all the Western Approach pieces.

I also managed to collect all the shards for the first time so I should unlock another achievement. This is just my second playthrough but I have chose all the same major choices as I did for my first (I still don't regret a thing ^_^ but I will need to force myself to choose some different options on my next playthrough)

Edit: Also met the quiz-quisition guy for the first time (where Cole is). He asked a question about nugs and I got it right B)
