I haven't played my jerk Inquisitor, Alessandra II, for a long time, so I decided to roll the Frostback Basin with her.

So far, she didn't bother closing all of the rifts; could care less about saving Professor Kenric's assistant, Colette from the wyverns; insulted Thane Sun-Hair about Strovacker, but reluctantly rescued the bear so Aless could gain access to the island; and lit up all of the trail markers leading to the Hakkonites' fortress. All that's left is facing off against Gurd Harofsen and Hakkon themselves.

Thom Rainer, who's forced to remain as Warden Blackwall, was growing more testy with the lady Inquisitor's lack of goodwill and respect for the Avvar tribe at Stone Bear Hold. He also didn't like the way she was treating her own soldiers, especially Kenric and Scout Harding. Dorian, even though he maintained his usual flamboyant self, was also displeased. But Sera shrugged it all off. "She's just getting shite done! No nonsense and all that p!ss, yeah?"

"Easy for you to say. She makes Corypheus look like a saint!" Dorian scoffed as he finished crafting a new fire staff for himself.

"That tyrant will get what she deserves one day. Maker help us," Rainer muttered to himself.

Crestwood done! ^_^

Freya and her companions were able to seal the rift below the lake, hidden deep underground. When they got back to the surface, sunlight awaited them. At last.

Spoiler

Freya had caught wind of a dragon causing problems around here, and when they approached a rift she wanted to seal, she saw the beast. Normally she wouldn't kill a creature just like that, she loved nature and all its animals, but it was threatening Crestwood. And it was already approaching them to attack, with them being completely out in the open.

Spoiler

Freya eventually made it to the cave where Hawke's contact was waiting, a Grey Warden called Stroud. She learned more about the Wardens' involvement in all of this and Stroud left to head to the Western Approach. Apparently the Wardens had gathered there and Freya will join Stroud later on.

Spoiler

Sera joined up with Freya in Crestwood, and they took care of a noble who wanted to draw out some Red Jennies. Sera wanted him dead for this. Upon returning to Skyhold, Sera was not happy that Freya let the noble go, but she wasn't one to kill someone just that easy.

Spoiler

Freya upgraded Skyhold's Garden, she was happy she could now grow more herbs, like she always had done with her Dalish Clan in the past. She spent some time with Josephine before another judgement waited for her.

Spoiler

On her way to Cassandra, Freya saw Bull and Krem train. Bull had news. For the first time ever, the Qunari had made an alliance offer. Freya was not sure about this, but she trusted Bull's judgement and she hoped it would work out in the end. Various things and leads were piling up for her...

She talked with Cassandra, Dorian and Leliana before seeing Blackwall. She hadn't talked to him since their awkward chat, but it was good to see him again.

Spoiler

It was well into the evening and Freya was glad to sleep in her own bed soon, but she was drawn to the tavern first once more. Iron Bull was there, as expected, and he asked Freya to join and drink together in order to celebrate their first dragon slaying. Freya felt terrible for killing the dragon, she liked these majestic creatures. Bull seemed to have enjoyed himself a lot though. Freya, happily drunk, raised a toast to Iron Bull. She returned to her quarters and fell asleep within seconds.

Spoiler

Aww, these looks Bull and Freya throw each other when drinking... Frigging cute.

Also, both Bull and Inqui refer to the dragon breathing fire, when the Northern Hunter was lightning. Heh.

Btw, your picture of Sam posing in front of that owl statue in Caer Bronach is awesome, hahaha!

Thanks! He's the first Inqui I've had where the proportions came out just right for that pose.

Also, both Bull and Inqui refer to the dragon breathing fire, when the Northern Hunter was lightning. Heh.

I know! Now I always kill Frosty first, even if I don't take Bull with me. It's like the devs never thought you might do things in a different order, which is dumb. Same thing happens if you kill Frosty before getting to Skyhold. Everyone is excited about "the Inquisitor" killing a dragon. <_<

While waiting for Josie to bribe and influence-peddle her way to some invitations for the Empress's Ball, Maya took a little trip to Emprise du Lion. Seems "Bonny Sims" (obviously a fake name -- that hoity-toity accent could never belong to a "Bonny") and her Tradesmen wanted a trifecta of retaken keeps. Maya was willing, she had nothing better to do.

Even though EdL was cold and beset by rifts, Red Templars, marauding wolves and great bears, Maya was happy to be introduced to the region by Scout Harding. For one thing, no one could be bothered to hide their loot, they just left it lying around wherever, completely unprotected.

(Yet another in the theme of new stuff I'd never seen before in umpteem previous playthroughs. Missed this big loot pile, until now! It's less than a bow shot from Sahrnia, which can be seen in the background.)

Freya made another stop in the Hinterlands to explore some Darkspawn-infested ruins of dwarfen origins.

Spoiler

Then she met up with Dorian at the Gull and Lantern because she had promised to help him deal with a family issue. His father turned up and Freya learned that Dorian is into men. She was surprised because of their previous flirty conversations, but it was no big deal for her. She liked Dorian a lot and it was the start of a wonderful friendship instead.

Spoiler

It was time to see to this alliance between the Ben-Hassrath and the Inquisition. Freya still wasn't sure if that is a good idea, especially after Bull also expressed concern about the whole mission. His gut was right, and Krem and the Chargers got into trouble. If they were to hold the position they were at, they would die. Freya was conflicted. She didn't want to make Bull Tal-Vashoth, remembering that he hates them with a passion, but she could see he cared so much about his men. Like a family. Adding to that that she did not feel entirely convinced about a trustworthy alliance from the Qunari's side, she made Bull signal the Chargers to retreat.

Spoiler

Back at Skyhold, Freya apologised for making Bull betray his people, but he was not mad at her, even if he was following her orders. It was his burden to bear. Still, she saw a more gentle side of Bull when he spoke to Krem, and she knew it had been the right choice.

Spoiler

Together with Bull, Solas and Cole, Freya returned to the Storm Coast once more to seal some Darkspawn tunnels. When they returned, she stumbled over Cullen and Dorian playing chess. Cullen won and invited her to play a game. She tried to cheat but got caught. At least she won his heart over with her flirting abilities.

Spoiler

Later on, Iron Bull had sent word to Freya that he wanted to see her. She was worried he had changed his mind about her decision, but it turned out she was supposed to be his backup. Two assassins were sent to attack him and make clear he is Tal-Vashoth now. Freya was troubled about this, but Bull assured her it would be fine. She saw how he struggled that he had abandoned the Qun, so Freya tried her best to convince him that this would change nothing about who he is. A good man.

Spoiler

Some of the flirt options honestly make me cringe a little, like... it's not even flirting! It's what I would say in the most normal way, haha.

Finishing the adventure in the Frostback Basin, Alessandra II along with Rainier, Dorian and Sera stormed the Hakkonite fortress and easily defeated Gurd Harofsen. Aless met her predecessor, Ameridan, but scowled at the discovery that he was an elven mage. However, she went on to slay Hakkon Wintersbreath to take all of the glory for herself.

Adding further insult to the previous Inquisitor, Aless lied to Kenric that Ameridan was a human noble warrior and that Telana casted a spell to keep him alive. Outraged, Rainier walked out of the main Inquisition camp and Dorian glared at the lady Inquisitor in disgust after witnessing the exchange.

That didn't stop there. Heading to the Exalted Plains to settle some unfinished business, Aless backstabbed the Dalish by destroying and ransacking their burial tombs. Lastly, she killed the golden halla with Sera's help to loot its gold antlers and leather.

Next up, Trespasser. A tyrant's reign will end, but another will rise...

I also created another chaotic evil world state similar to Alessandra II's, but with a few changes. More on that later ;)

After installing a crapton of Windows updates and rebooting.....

Sam wandered around the Western Approach with Bull, Solas, and Dorian. They kicked the Venatori out of Griffon Wing Keep, then met up with Hawke and Stroud only to find more Venatori up to more no good. Had to re-do that fight since everyone but Sam died and there were still 2 spellbinders remaining.  <_< Second attempt: 1 mark of the rift and a little bit of clean up, with no health potions used. Go figure.

After consulting with Frederic, Sam decided to explore some old Tevinter ruins he'd seen but not yet investigated. Frederic hoped the old fort might contain some lore on dragons. It did indeed, but it also was somehow frozen in time since who knows how long ago, and modern Venatoris (really, these guys are like cockroaches popping up everywhere) were trying to figure it out. Sam and team killed them all, then picked up the lucky staff that started time again. They barely got out before rocks fell on their heads.

Then it was back to Skyhold to open up the last area in the Approach and get the dragon text translated. When Sam gets back, it should be time for a dragon hunt. :D

One thing I noticed when playing DA2, each companion have 4 upgrades for their armor. The only way for Isabela to get the 4th upgrade, Zervan has to be alive to have a quest related to him in DA2. If not, Isabela misses out on having that 4th upgrade. Too bad BioWare didn't have another way to get that upgrade.

Anyways. My playthrough that I did as little as possible, I decided to go back to the beginning of the playthrough, well shortly after recruiting Anders, and do everything. This time I will play the Legacy and Assassin dlc's before going to the deep roads

Kind of like one of Varric's upgrades is only available if you have Nathaniel's quest. Would have been nice to have them available to buy as a second option if you don't have the quest required.

I didn't know that. I wonder why BioWare never had an option to get the upgrade another way?

Reminds me of the tunnels in the Oasis. While trying to have Bull bust open the gates via bash, I'd accidentally hit "attack" instead and poof! dead nug. :o Of course, no one said anything about that. However, when I got to the Crestwood nug colony and just happened to startle them by going through the wrong door, everyone disapproved. <_<

With the RT in retreat, Maya prepared for the final push to retake Suledin Keep.

Spoiler

At the front gate, Maya and her crew rescued Ser Michel from a couple of RT guards. Ser Michel said he couldn't complete the hit on some demon named Impshell or Ishmael or whatsit. Could Maya take on the assassination as a sub-contract?

"Do I look like I'm from Antiva?" she asked.

Ser Michel begged and pleaded, claiming he had to rush back to Sarnia to receive a delivery of lampshades ... Orlesians and their antiques!

"What's it worth to ya?" Maya asked.

After a little dickering, a deal was struck and gold exchanged hands. "We're demon hunting as well as RT kicking, as of now," Maya told her crew.

Blackwall brandished his Boon of the Spoon and said, "Just give me a target, my lady. It will be done in one!"

Vivienne rolled her eyes and made a gesture that only Dorian could see. He stifled a laugh.

Wasting no time on japes, Maya rolled through the keep, taking out guards left, right and center. A few infected giants tried to get in their way, but Dorian made them hop with his Inferno pacted fire glyphs and Horror of Horrors.

(Some gratuitous actions shots)
Spoiler

Finally, at the crown of the keep, Maya found Ishpale waiting.

Spoiler

He introduced himself as a Choice Spirit and offered Maya riches, power or virgins. Before Maya could bargain for riches and power, Blackwall bellowed a war cry, "Die, demon!" and charged. Isspail seemed a bit put out and turned into a Fear demon.

"Great! Just great!" Maya grumbled.

Fortunately, Choice Spirits aren't any better than Envy demons at dealing with Bee Grenades, so sooner than you could say Blackwall was a spoil sport, the demon was banished and the keep was safely in Maya's ... er, the Inquisition's hands.

Further to the theme of everything old is new, some new stuff I found in Emprise du Lion. New to me, anyway.

Unreadable letters, buried in snow.
Spoiler

Unreachable loot, nowhere to go.
Spoiler

A fallen knight, of unknown crest.
Spoiler

A broken bridge, to dragon nests.
Spoiler

The broken bridge isn't new, of course, but the spot we were looking from was. I had never been to that spot before, didn't know it was there.

Finally, you know how when you select Trials there's a big block of legalese about how weird things could happen if you enable them, don't blame Bioware? Well, I think I encountered one of those weird things.

What is this Behemoth doing in my captured camp?
Spoiler

Notice how all the Inquisition flunkies are just standing around doing nothing about the behemoth. "Oh, you go right ahead, Inquisitor. We'll just watch from over le here." Damn lazy Orlesians!

They don't do anything about bears in the Hinterlands either, not even when they wander into camp to munch on Quizzy.

There is one less dragon in the world. Now if only getting that *$&**(*%#&# loot chest above the final camp was as easy. Seriously tried for half an hour to mount-jump up there and I got nothing but a hand cramp.

Jump from an angle from just slightly below the level of the loot chest. I bet you tried to go from above like I did, which doesn't work.
