On the way to open the floodgates of the dam in Crestwood, there's an old pub called The Rusted Horn. When we got there, a couple of the locals were inside, having snuck away for a romantic interlude away from prying eyes. Upon seeing them, Vivienne uttered a very frosty, "charming," in the way only she can
I imagine her saying the very same thing upon seeing your golden nug. :D.

Haha, she did that on mine too! I've really come to love her snark and passive-aggressive remarks.

Yeah, I like her a lot. :D Barely took her anywhere in my first game as a mage. Now she's going everywhere with us. It's very entertaining listening to her fight with Blackwall.

Still waiting for the dragon's bane achievement to pop up. I wonder if it doesn't count dragons killed post-end game? If that's the case, I will need to kill (at least) 3 more this game to get it. <_<

Read somewhere that the Crestwood dragon -- Highland Ravager? -- is bugged and doesn't count towards the achievement, so she is the one holding you up, maybe?

I finally defeated all the Templars in the Hinterlands and thus the rebel Templars have been banished from the Hinterlands forever. The rebel mages don't appreciate my work however as they are still attacking me on sight <_<.

I killed a nug, a fennec and a ram just for a codex entry (the rams were for a quest but killing an innocent animal for a codex entry is horrible). The fennec codex entry is worth it though and I also like the blood lotus codex especially. I now wish the winter palace was full of blood lotuses and see the guests biting the furniture .

I wandered back east to get some supply caches which led me to a scout looking for Ritts. This is the first time where Ritts died which made me feel a little guilty (I like to save everyone!!!). I also helped some people in the hills by closing a rift. I decided for a change of scenery so I fast travelled to the Storm Coast. I collected a few shards and fought a few bandits by navigating some steep climbs only to realise there was an easier path just off the side :pinched: .

So now I am at level 7 looking for materials for a mercy crest.

Lyell Trevelyan - Old God tryhard killer.

He has learned an important lesson from the HoF. Save the world once. Then leave it alone.

When Dorian is ready for Tevinter, Lyell will be ready to go with him. He has wallowed in enough mires and bogs. Killed more demons and giants and rifts and red templars and darkspawn wannabes than anyone should ever have to. Has been stabbed and beaten and knocked unconscious. Been burnt and iced and zapped by dragons. Attacked by too many wolves and bears and the occasional druffalo. Killed fennecs, rams, quillbacks, nugs, hallas and hyaenas. And that damn Lord Woolsey. Chartered a safe (safe-ish) course through the treacheries of Halamshiral and placed the lives of people over that of philosophy.

Do you think he's ready for Tevinter? B) :P

And damn - but Leliana became the divine again. How does one choose? Can you or is it random?

And how the frack do i turn off spellcheck?

Don't bring any archers into a dragon fight. Well, unless you want to micromanage them constantly. I fought the Western Approach dragon with a same lvl party consisting of Archer Inky, archer Sera, Cass and Viv, and the archers were constantly getting right next to the dragon to shoot at it. I think it was because of Leaping Shot, so the AI just felt compelled to get up close and personal to use that ONE ability and then stay within clawing distance afterwards. Burned through most of my health potions in one minute flat.

Knight-Enchanter Viv and Cass to draw aggro is more than enough. A bit tedious, but it gets the job done.
Just my two cents :P

(Right, so my opinion might be a bit biased based on that one fight and the Artificial Stupidity during said fight. Plus, my archer builds weren't exactly optimal...)

I've seen Varric practically solo a dragon fight on Nightmare.

Crestwood is the Northern Hunter. I think she counts in the collection quest (she was 1/10 this time around) but not in the achievement? Anyway, the achievement popped up after we killed Frosty the Frostback. Halfway through the battle my sound crapped out and I had to reload (and reboot since the game wouldn't open ). I just started the Wicked Eyes mission and the sound bugged out again.....hope I don't have to reboot this time. Looking forward to my dance with Cullen....

I pretty much just started a new playthrough today, this time on Hard. I've been playing in casual/normal waaaaayyyy too often. Time to rev up the gears. And to get pissed at my stupidity tenfold, cause surprise, I have been making all the bad decisions in my first playthrough. Not to mention that I romanced Solas. Fuuuudgecakes, so much regrets. I should have listened to my friends when they said it's an "emotional experience". ;; But I'm pretty happy with how I developed my Lavellan, so that's a plus, I guess.

Human male mage? I'm scared. Haven't played as a male before in anything that gives me an option to be otherwise. How much will I screw this up, I wonder...

I've killed like three dragons on my first playthrough with Solas/Dorian, Vivienne and Iron Bull/Cass with a knight enchanter Inquisitor, but I'm in casual, so IDK if my experience counts. ;; If the dragon does that flapping wings thing to pull us closer, I'd claw him to oblivion with a spirit blade until he starts limping, or do a hundred precise butt-pokes with it. HA. And not to mention that for some weird reason, everytime Cass dies, she occasionally auto-revives. I checked and she didn't have anything equipped that would do something like that, then it turns out that Solas's AI is set to revive anyone who's down automatically. ;;;;

Which was terrible once half or 3 of the part is dead and there's either not enough mana or the skill was still in cooldown.

I'm both excited and scared for dragon fights in Hard. Then again, I'm a charge-without-thinking person so most likely I'll change difficulty back to normal because I'm such a chicken.

That's how I play it as well. Casual suits me just fine. One little tip, maybe you know this already. Make a staff with some fade-touched obsidian or silverite, and use energy barrage lots. Your mage will have so much guard he'll be unstoppable.

Dear Emil,

I hope this letter finds you well. It feels like forever and a day since we’ve last sat down together to share bread and wine. I know I have promised to visit you in Marothius this summer, to sample her morning markets for their delightful produces, browse her vast libraries for tales and tomes, and enjoy the evening sounds of the countryside while indulging in fine wine from your equally fine vinery. But regrettably, I would have to yet again renege upon that promise, poor friend that I am.

For I’ve found myself suddenly and most unpleasantly occupied, not with the study of magic, or the intricacies of politics, but the result of my own son’s indiscretions! I should have been firmer with that boy and sent him to you for his education, my friend. And you, always the better man and more enlightened mage between the two us, and leagues ahead of many other men, would have taught him right. But even you must remember how the stubborn boy insisted on studying under someone who specialized in disciplines closer to his own fields of interest, and ended up with that minor but supposedly respectable magister, Caelinus, in apprenticeship.

And what did the boy learn this year from his apprenticeship you ask? Not the rich history of our great nation, oh no. Nor the alchemy for which Caelinus is somewhat famous for. No! He has instead dallied with a fellow apprentice's elven slave and begot a child!

Such carelessness! I can almost hear my good neighbours laughing aloud. Such lack of social fineness! Not even betrothed yet and already bringing home a half-bred bastard! What proper girl of good lineage would have him now?

But I could never deny that boy, I must admit this is a weakness on my part. Maker knows I’d get him the sun and the moon if only I could. So now I find my household with a surplus of two slaves. One of them is no doubt drooling on my imported Antivan carpets at this very moment, completely useless and a drain upon resources. At least the girl can work around the house. What was my son thinking, truly? All for such a drab looking creature too. Not with his higher functions, for sure.

We were never so full of such follies back in our Circle days, Emil. Why both of us were buried so deep in the libraries, that we barely saw any skirts other than our own dreary novice robes, much less chased them. But yes, please do forgive me for missing our summer outings this year, since all my time, as of recent, have been taken up with salvaging my son’s reputation, and occasionally exercising the little half-breed in the garden. (It crawls very fast, and I have to keep an eye on it constantly. Do all half-elf infants do that? I’ve never paid them much attention before.)

Yours, with fraying nerves

Flavius Laurentinus

Dear Emil,

Thank you again for the invitation to your vineyard. I do wish that my property in Minrathous is grander in times like this. Ah but such is the lot of us city dwellers, boxed into small villas and courtyards, like so many miniature tin toys in little wooden boxes, leaving me a rather poor host to you the few times you’ve visited the capital.

My son also expresses his thanks for your invitations, and also no small amount of surprise that said invitations extend to the little half-breed. But Emil, are you sure you wish to have the whelp brought along? I can already imagine it running off to prance around the countryside like one of those hallas the Dalish clans keep. But, look, here I forget to whom I write. You were always interested in the study of exotic birds and rare beasts. This child cannot be the latest thing to catch your fancy?

Ah, despite its less than illustrious maternal roots, the child does grow to possess more and more of my son’s finer features with each passing year. And surprisingly, its magic also grows. Oh how it grows. My son, out of misguided pride more than anything else, even claims that it has more aptitude for magic than many a mages in our bloodline’s past. At this point, I am not sure if I could disagree in honesty. Perhaps you are right, Emil, that a magister such as yourself should assess it in person, lest we let possible natural talents be buried, even in a slave.

So here I am, writing to you ahead of my own arrival to answer some of the questions you’ve asked in your last letter about the half-breed. You always were the more studious researcher, and your suggestions to look into its dam’s pedigree have proven most fruitful. The elf believes her grandmother to have been the First of some Dalish clan, with a bloodline that turned out powerful mages every some generations. Supposedly the old elf ended up summoning uncontrollable demons and got ran out of her tribe. This is what happens when you do not have organized mage Circles! Not the jail houses of the south that sought to leash instead of nurture, but true, proper towers of academia. All that power and no formal training. It was almost inevitable.

Ah but with proper training, training that I currently am personally overseeing, I can see this child become a very useful servant or bodyguard in the future. Perhaps you are right, my friend, that the two silvers I’ve paid for it and its mother were not money wasted.

But enough on this talk of slaves. More than anything, I do so look forward to speaking with an old friend face to face again. And I cannot wait to share with you tales of all the dull parties and forums and endless committee sittings that I’ve so stoically suffered this past year in the heart of our fair capital.

Yours Truly

Flavius Laurentinus

**

Dear Emil,

Forgive me for not writing to you as often as I should have these past few months. I’ve been a poor friend. And such a poor friend, that I must again burden you with my troubles. My foolish but dear, dear son has come into conflict with his own mentor.

Magister Caelinus must have snuck around my property during one of the evening parties, how else did that snake pass by the half-breed child and see it practicing magic? To think that I’ve granted such a man my hospitality! Either that, or my son is of a looser tongue than I’ve taught him to be.

For the magister came to us, and claimed that he had also lain with the very same elven wench who seduced my son! And that any result of such unions is his to keep. But the child clearly resembles my son! And the other apprentice, the former owner of the elf, who once happily sold her and her whelp, now maintains that since the she-slave was impregnated while in his service, he too should have some claims upon her child. Claims that he is willing to overlook, should the full value of the slaves be paid. Ransom I say. He’ll get not a single more copper out of me!

And my son is again useless at even protecting his own property. I’ve coddled and spoilt the boy for far too long. I must be firm with him this time, and make a lesson out of this whole fiasco.

The apprentice is from a small family of minor fortune and even less talent for magic, well within my abilities to handle. There are many ways to ruin such a man. Caelinus on the other hand may prove troublesome. No matter how baseless his claims are, he is still a magister.

Unless another more powerful magister lays claim to the slave first? I feel terrible to impose, but you did say you’ve enjoyed giving private lessons to the whelp? Would it be very inconvenient for it and its mother to board with you for a season or two? The whelp is young, but intelligent and diligent enough for small tasks set before it. The elf is unobtrusive and a hardy worker. They would be yours to command as you would your own household. Whatever expenses you incur on their behalves would be covered, of course.

On another note, attached please find one parcel of pressed prophet's laurel and two wyvern eggs. The herbs are new, dated this year, hand-picked and preserved by me personally, and should be more potent than any mere merchants’ wares. And whatever are you trying to do with those eggs my friend? Hatch them for your rookery?

With fond thoughts for you but exasperation for the rest of the world

Flavius Laurentinus

**

To The Most Exalted Magister Aemilius Herminius Avilius Aelianus of Marothius,

Your Esteem, again I must thank you for expressing such an interest in my half-elven slave. I will arrange immediately to have all the papers in order and said slave transferred under your custody. I hope it would serve Your Esteem well as both servant and laboratory assistant. And my entire household is ever so honoured to provide this small service.

Most humbly

Flavius Laelius Laurentinus

**

Emil,

Do you know of a reliable but powerful tracking spell that would not harm what it seeks to find? Barring that, a spell that can track previously enchanted objects? Please, you are my last resort. You were always the better student of magic, and with the libraries of Minrathous completely open to you for all these years, you must know of some way!

It is my son. My son has taken the slave and child, and fled the country. Of all the years I’ve been lenient with that boy, why did I choose to act strict now?

The boy is both rash and muddle-minded. What did he think I would do? Make him give up his favorite slaves? I may have implied, yes but only implied, certain things in anger, and acted stern and distant towards his child for propriety’s sake, but did he truly think…?

I should have contacted you sooner. I should have contacted you sooner Emil. The tracking spells that could be performed with the she-elf’s blood I’ve saved on reserve have limited reach. The tracer amulet I've placed in my grandson’s stuffed toy, the bear that he is so attached to, has also reached the end of its usefulness, the information it returned vague and erratic. Projection of their last reliably known route points toward the Dales.

Fool boy, did he think his slaves would find protection with the elves? Fool girl, did she think the Dalish, those wood-dwelling, isolationist savages, would embrace her and her Tevinter-blooded lover and halfling son with open arms?

What have I ever done, Emil, to make the boy think that his own father would leave him to the likes of Caelinus and his fellow apprentice, to those pit vipers of Minrathous? To make him think the war-torn south overran by petty Orlesians, by vile Templars and our foolish brethren safer by comparison?

He left me a note citing freedom and love, a life without all the shadows cast upon him by the spires of our homeland, a bird finally flying free of a gilded cage. Such simple, romantic dreams.

But more powerful men than him have tried to chase the same dreams and failed.

Desperately

Flavius Laurentinus

**

Dearest Emil,

Thank you again for the tracking spell.

Unfortunately, though not unexpected, the mercenaries I’d sent to comb the Dales and retrieve my son and property had little success. But the spell has proven most fruitful in pinpointing the precise last known locations of the tracing amulet. Once again magic triumphs where mortal men fail.

As you are reading this, I should be well on my way, leading an expedition to the Dales. You cannot trust the help these days. I must go in person and drag them back myself, if not through persuasion, then by force.

Wish me luck old friend. The Exalted Plains are vast, but I hope next summer would find us and my family escaping the heat together at your beautiful countryside vineyard once more.

Wish me luck,

Now and Ever Yours

Flavius

Dang, you guys, I haven't finished my first play through.

We went to Adamant and Erimond had corrupted the wardens. They were using blood magic and in full support of Corypheus. I could not believe it. Stroud could not believe it. We fought a horrendous battle against them. My soldier helped turn the tide. Clarel had a change of heart when Corypheus' demon dragon showed up and killed her. We the lot of us were cast into the fade... alive!

By the Maker! I... we... saw the Divine Justinia. She was standing ahead of us. But was she really Justinia? She said I had to recover my memories. It was the Grey Wardens who did this! They were behind the ritual and destruction of the conclave! And... my mark... caused by the elven orb that fell out of the hands of Corypheus. It was not a gift of The Maker? It was not the Mark of Andraste? I'm a fake? What do I believe? Was Andraste a fake, too? I am reminded that Andraste questioned as well. No! It cannot be. The Maker would not toy with us this way. It was the will of The Maker that the orb end up in my hand and He gave me the mark. There are no coincidences.

We pressed onward defeating waves that the Nightmare put against us. We had to escape the fade. Then I had to make a choice. There was a giant fade creature that needed to be distracted so we could escape. Both Hawke and Stroud volunteered. Stroud said that he needed to stay because the Grey Wardens caused this and he needed to set things right. Hawke said she should stay so that Stroud could rebuild the Grey Wardens. Yet we had Blackwall. Why couldn't Blackwall rebuild the Grey Wardens? After all he was a Grey Warden and was uncorrupted. Also if I recall King Alister is also a Grey Warden. I did not see the Hero of Ferelden at Adamant either. She could also rebuild the Wardens. I chose Stroud to stay in the fade. We escaped.

When we returned to Adamant, I exiled the Grey Wardens out of Orlais. Hawke made sure they went there. Their crimes were heinous, and they could still be corrupted by Corypheus. I could not risk having them within the walls of Skyhold.

We returned to Skyhold, and the prisoner Erimond was brought before me. There are worse fates than death, Josie had once said. The worst fate for a mage would be the Rite of Tranquility, yet Cassandra once informed me that it could be reversed because she herself had been made tranquil, then filled with the spirit and the rite reversed. That was how she was made a Seeker. Besides it would send the wrong message to the mages. The chopping block for Erimond. I must admit that I rather enjoyed this one. (my second execution)

Varric was very saddened by the loss of Stroud. He was a friend of his. But at least Hawke was still alive. Isabella will be p*ssed that I sent her to Weisshaupt with the Wardens. But she doesn't have to stay there.

I spoke with Cassandra. She was writing. I teased her about whether she was writing a love poem. She laughed. It is good to see her laugh. She is a good friend. She agreed that I did the right thing with the wardens and with Erimond. She was writing a history of our journey into the fade. She felt that it was important. She felt that it also was important that people have something to believe. That the spirit we encountered was indeed that of the Divine Justinia, even though she herself is not certain. I am not certain either, but I agree with her. I need to believe it was as well.

Morrigan also seems to be in agreement with my handling of the situation at Adamant. She's making progress with her research on how to defeat Corypheus. Kiernan never leaves her side. I would like to speak with the boy. He seems to be quite interesting... different than most boys his age. Perhaps I'll have a child of my own some day once this is over, that is unless this mark thing messed up that.

I interrupted a meeting Cullen was having with his commanders. Well he was just finishing. My general was so shy. Probably due to his time in the Templars, but he's so sweet, and I don't think I could do better in all of Thedas. The twinkle in his eyes when he looks at me... the smile on his face... there's a kindness about him that I don't see in other men. I love him the way he is, and I'll help him through his lyrium withdrawals. We made love on his desk, and I spent the night in his freezing cold quarters. The poor man! I cannot believe that no one has done anything about fixing the bloody roof over his bed!

The human returns. This time with more creds. I hope.

I finally finished my playthrough with Sumalee Montano's voice for the Inquisitor.

She does a pretty decent job at voicing Inky. Sumalee's acting is kinda basic, and I don't mind the deeper voice either.

AWR simply brings much more life and feeling to the voice.

Well, that's my opinion anyways.

O I was playing through the Dalish quests in the Exalted Plains when I discovered the whole 4 ruins thingies you unlock with veilfire. Which led me to a temple that worshipped Dirth'amen which was absolutely awesome. I loved how dark and non linear it was. The textures were amazing as well, but a bit disappointed that the boss fight ended up being a tougher despair demon :P I can't wait till I finish my term next week and get to (finally) fully experience the exploration in this awesome game.

I also may have desecrated an ancient elven burial site.

Oops.

In my defense though, if you start exploring the Plains by closing the rifts closest to the initial Inquisition camp, you'll probably run across the burial site before you run into the Dalish camp. So there. Hey, even a bad excuse is still an excuse... Right?

I am also a bit overleveled it seems. I'm at lvl 17 and most of the enemies I ran into on the Plains were lvl 11. A few were lvl 15 at least.

Naming my daggers Murder Knife I & II wasn't clearly enough. Should've named them Massacre Knife I & II.

So.....we receive the news that. red templars had a foothold in the storm coast. So myself, Dorian, Blackwall and Varric popped over and steamrolled over their operation.

Then we were off to some elven ruins pertaining some individuals called "emerald knights"....first off....WTF. why are there butt naked depictions of elves mooning us on the walls? DORIAN STOP STARING. After we retreive this document about the elves who basically caused the exalted match Blackwall suggests we give it to the elves

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Why am I picturing Lelliana riding one naked bareback ala Lady Godiva?
