Lastly, not DA related, I pre-ordered Deus Ex Mankind Divided. I loved the first game (Human Revolution), so hopefully the sequel will be good.

Would you believe Human Revolution was the third? Mankind Divided is the fifth. Although both are prequels to the original.

In terms of story, the original Deus Ex usually makes the all-time top ten lists of a lot of reviewers. I've never played it myself. I started with Human Revolution like you and really enjoyed it -- though some of those "oops, alerted the giant mecha, time to ... oops, I'm dead" sequences got kind of old.

I'm looking forward to this one too. The original was one of the first games that really sucked me into its story and world, before I played "proper" RPGs. I'd put it with KotOR as one of the games that started my drift away from pure FPSs, and I very much enjoyed Human Revolution, too. I'm waiting to see what the PC specs are...

DA:O is what ruined FPS for me. And I got onto DA:O because I got tired of waiting for the sequel to Drakan:Order of the Flame to come to PC. I mean, it even started with a D and ended with a colon O, so it must be similar, right? ;) Drakan was my gateway drug. It was kind of like an FPS, since you got to fly a dragon around and blow sh*t up, but it was third-person. And fantasy. And kind of had a story. And ended in a ME3 Red-type cliffhanger.

FWIW, the original freeware Doom was what got me on FPS in the first place.

OT. I don't know what's with the game devs nowadays but I'm seeing a lot of MOBAs and sparse narrative; Dark Souls III, Battleborn, Arcane Warfare, Doom, Dreadnought, Livelock, Shadow Warrior.

Don't forget Overwatch. Technically not a MOBA, more like a TF2 clone.

You're right, it's like every new game either has to be Dark Souls (no story and git gud) or Destiny (no story and grinding) or Dota 2 (no story and ? arguing over which hero is best?). It's all about multiplayer.

I guess story-driven SP games are just too hard to make. But The Last Of Us came out as a new IP in that environment, so there is still hope.

I would say no. I brought him once but I didn't really feel like he added much. He does have some comments about spirits, if I recall. I like having Cole for that though, since he is one. Bull also has some good lines but you probably don't need 2 reavers. However, Solas might be helpful just for crowd-controlling those dang Hakkonites.

Okay, thanks :)

Me too, I mostly ask Cole when the Group is on the Lady's Rest. Bull's "Mayhem" convo with Harding is funny, but no, I don't need two Reavers.

If you mean "Veil Strike" & "Pull of the Abyss" with CC, then Solas won't be really useful, cause he only has Stone Fist and Firestorm  (tho he does have Static Cage) maybe I'll take Sera to the end fight, or maybe Varric.

I think if they become too hard to fight, I just disable some Trials.

I play on Hard with Even Ground, Walk Softly, Take It Slow and I think Grizzly End enabled, but I could be wrong with the last one, Greed is at Lvl 24 and the others around 23-24. (first time I'm not already max Level when I do JoH, but it's also the first time where I do JoH before WPHW)

Yeah, I read that up earlier. I didn't know there were previous Deus Ex games before Human Revolution. Like Uncle, I played stealth and non-lethal. But when it came to boss fights, you couldn't do that. I don't have my Xbox 360 and the game anymore, so I'm thinking of playing a more combative Adam Jensen in the upcoming game.

Uh oh....I've just been ninja-manced by Leliana!  And she already knows about Daria and Alistair! What the heck, woman?!

Spoiler

Finally got the go-find-Branka quest. Daria's decided to leave Alistair behind (he doesn't know this yet. I can already hear the hollering ). Just in case she doesn't come back, there needs to be at least one Grey Warden left. (No, she's not taking Leliana either). Her plan is Shale, Wynne, and Sten, though of course Oghren is going to ruin that plan right off the hop. <_<

I remember I got ninja-manced by Leliana in my first playthrough of Origins, and I also remember feeling bad when I had to gently turn her down.

I love it when my companions just stand and take the fire breath of a dragon. -_- Poor Varric wouldn't move when the Fereldan Frostback just let loose a stream of pure flame, thankfully he didn't get knocked out from it but he did use at least 2 health potions.

I know....I miss the days of passive tactics: "If in an area of effect, the character will attempt to leave the area." Yes, common sense for my companions please. :D

It was a great story, if a little too caught up in conspiracy theory nonsense for my taste. I really got into the whole dystopian near-future world. And I loved the stealthy non-lethal approach. In fact I loved that even if you used lethal weapons, you couldn't just go in all guns blazing like in a normal FPS. They seem to have toned that down in Mankind Divided, which I think is a mistake, but we'll see.

DA:O is what drew me back into gaming after two or three years of concentrating on photography. My mobo died some time in 2006 and instead of building a new gaming rig I threw myself into learning how to use my DSLR. Seeing a colleague enthuse about DAO piqued my interest and I got it for my laptop, but that could barely cope with it, so I built this PC (currently with four times more RAM than it originally had, plus a different CPU and GPU, but amazingly still going.)

FWIW, the original freeware Doom was what got me on FPS in the first place.

Oddly not me. I never liked the grungy aesthetic of Doom and Quake. For me it was the Star Wars Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, and then the original Half-Life. Again games with a bit more heft to their stories and characters. I never liked being some beefcake shooting things seemingly for the heck of it.

I pretty much started out with FPS and UT'99 was the ultimate moba for me. MP is the money machine now for game companies, especially if they put in micro transactions and ridiculous season passes (SW Battlefront). It's a cash cow they're going to keep at. Easier than making a SP with a good narrative. The most recent SP title, Quantum Break, is horrible which says alot about how much SP creative juices there is out there. I belonged to the PC master race  :D  so console games, I don't bother with.

The reason I'm looking into those games right now is that there's pretty much nothing new / innovative and I'm also curious about the current game climate. It's one moba clone after another. It's depressing.

Anyway, I just had a great time revisiting those     of ME2. Aethyta clapping her hands to her head (what a moron) when Conrad Verner said that his 'wife' paid the money for his passage to Illium. The volus customer; I want something flashy that says I own you. Biotic God! And oh yes, the krogan poetry.  :P

Gwenyn made her first trip to Emprise du Lion. She had just closed the first rift on the frozen river and was casually slaughtering snoufleurs, when a Great Bear showed up...and another...and (sorry, PapaCharlie9)...another...and...SIX spawned in total. No sigils dropped, but still . I've had three show up before, but never this many.

So I do have pic's, but again....not uploaded to the "bane" (i.e. photobucket <_< ....should stop being so lazy, and open an imgur or another photo site account.)

Anyhoo, yesterday I played for an ungodly number of hours (getting over a cold). Ended up getting a number of new-to-me dialogues, this play through. BTW, was playing with my Petra Trevelyan (aka Cate Blanchett).

First, when I did Bull's PQ, and saved the Chargers, I got an option based on the Underworld Perk. In all my countless PT's, I have never gotten this option before. Basically, it was asking Bull if there might be a way to salvage any of his old contacts, through the Ben Hassrath. Does anyone know if this eventually opens up a new WT mission or add other new dialogue, later on in the game???

This was also the first time when judging Ser Ruth, that I could tell her to go out and do the Maker's work. I didn't take that option, mind you, since Petra is starting to question things regarding the Chantry and her faith. She still considers herself Andrastian, but considers things more carefully now. Besides, Adamant had her sending the Wardens away, and she didn't thing a warden who willingly killed other wardens, is best left to the public. Off to the Deep roads, to bolster the ranks of the Legion of the Dead, she goes. *nods*

Since Petra is a mage romancing Cullen, I have gotten the mage related dialogue options. My other Cullenmancer was a Rogue, so these lines are new to me. I find the conversations interesting, and add a layer to the relationship, I find intriguing.

This was also the first time, I ever had this combination of events/dialogues. I took Cole (along with Cass and Solas) to Adamant. As those that have had Cole with them in the Fade know, it is a terrifying experience for him. After HLtA, back at Skyhold and clicking on Cole, it immediately started the 'bind me, Solas!' cutscene. Now at this point, I hadn't yet decided on whether to reinforce Cole's spirit self, or make him more human. I have done both, though I tend to go the spirit route more often. After examining the events I had with Petra in the Fade, I decided that Petra would have interpreted Cole's discomfort with the fact that this was not the home he remembered, nor did he "fit" there, after becoming a spirit in the natural world, and making himself a human body. Petra ended up agreeing with Varric, and making him more human. The conversation she then had with Cole about his experiences at Adamant, ended up cementing her choice, as being the best for him (again, based on her perspective). This may be the first time I had a PC that took him down the "human" path, that felt the most assured. Now, not all my PC's would have had the same perspective, AND as I stated, it was the combination of events that made the decision feel so right for this character. I likes. ;)

Next up is finishing out the Exalted Plains, clearing a couple of the quest paths in the Emerald Graves, then it is off to the ball!

*NOTE*
I am loving the half xp trial on. So much nicer to be at the so-called appropriate level, when doing these different main quests. More often than not, I am waaay over leveled, when doing them. The only complaint I have with this PT so far - which has nothing to do with the trials exactly - is rng on getting FT materials, while exploring, has been dreadful. :pinched: Oh well. It is, what it is.

Do you have Griffon Plate schematic? If not and you still have a save before that judgment, I would consider picking faithful Inquisitor option for this. You can always nug-sync and then reload

I do have all the Griffon Plate schematics, due to a mod. . But thanks for the heads up about it. I had forgotten that [i]that[/] was one of the incentives to go that route (on a meta-level, that is ;) ).

Bummer about that perk related dialogue option, going nowhere. Though, I suppose I am not that surprised. *shrug* Tanks for da info! :)

Yeah, no additional stuff, but I still like this answer the best.

Speaking of perks and interesting dialogue. Ever got Arcane Knowledge before speaking with Minaeve for the first time at Haven? There's new dialogue with that (and thanks to almighty Golden Nug you don't really need to work for that one perk).

Agreed. I still really like I got the dialogue option. It does make me wonder why it never popped up before. I have picked a number of different dialogue options through the multitude of play throughs, yet for whatever reason, I guess I hit the right combination, just this once...?!? I swear I am not complaining though. It's great when I still get new content even after so many PT's. :)

Hrmmmm...as for Minaeve, I want to say I have had the Arcane Knowledge Perk, before speaking to her, but it may have been long enough ago, that I don't remember what she says. Care to share? ;)

Enjoying a bit of Origins with Natia Brosca. Although I imagine she's having less fun than I am, if her diary is any indication;

"First, Daveth and Ser Jory died.

Then everyone (including the backup) in the Tower of Ishal died. Cailan and Duncan died in the battle as well. The Grey Wardens and most of the Fereldan army? Forget it, stone-dead. Now it's up to Alistair and me (who nearly died) to stop the Blight... or everyone else will die.

As far as life on the surface and first days on the job go... results have been slightly mixed."

I just started a new game with a world state where Hawke is a mage, and when I asked Varric about Hawke's friends, he mentioned a living Bethany instead of Carver.

What the hell? Is that a common glitch?

I know they're virtual and not real but seriously the giant spiders can still make me jump a little. I was in that cave in like the very corner of the Storm Coast and just running along and then a giant spider just comes out of nowhere and runs up to my quizzy. The one that always scares the crap out of me, even though I know it's coming, is the first extra big giant spider you come across in the Deep Roads Expedition in DA2.

I just finished up Ortan Thaig in DAO, where you fight the horde of spiders led by the disappearing Spider Queen. I hate the rattle noises that they make ::shudder:: Not to mention all the other weird noises coming from the Deep Roads. I'll be running along and suddenly out of nowhere hear a "thunk" and wonder what the heck was that?! No enemies anywhere....just a random noise in the dark.
