Real quick before bed-time....meet Emma Hawke, apostate turned soon-to-be-refugee
And for Cass fans....
I met up with Aveline and Wesley but exited without saving so I can go step by baby step with Carver friendship (I want to get to 100% this time
). Turns out I didn't need to exit there since the +5 rivalry is awarded no matter what. ![]()

Also, I found friendship with Carver to be very moving. I think I plan to rival Bethany as Angry Hawke next time I roll DA2 for play.

OT. Bioware seriously need to up their game in the animation and anatomy department. I just watched the Uncharted cutscene story. The facial expressions, body movements, anatomy are so natural and life like. In fact, most of the notable games; Rise of the TR, just put DAI in the shade in those departments.

True true. Female characters walk around like gorillas half the time in DAI.

That's a cool sword handle.
It's a dagger handle actually. It's the tier 3 jeweled dagger handle. The other dagger she has is shorter and you can't see it due to the angle she is standing at!

I spent three hours killing Great Bears in the Emerald Graves with Even Ground and Grizzly End trials on. It was quite therapeutic
.
I still only took down 4 - craziness - too many mages in the kitchen again. ![]()

Flirting won't mess with it, I don't think, but if you don't lock in another romance then they won't get together.
This is true. I always have my human lady mage inquisitors flirt with Dorian, and flirt with Bull, before locking things in with Cullen because I like that lyrium addict as a romantic foil to a mage. LOL.

I was thinking about Blackwall and the discussions he had before he goes Revelations on you. And I much prefer the romance version; I'd like to just not hear the tortured dog story again. My Mara was shocked by his intensity when they met, and then their flirting back at Haven has the most natural in the game; it seemed like they were flirting regardless of taking the heart icon, and it made me laugh. But Mara's immature and doesn't want to find Blackwall intriguing, so she's going to decide an Iron Bull fling will shake her out of it. So, I'm kinda planning an IB->Thomwall->Cullen romance narrative, but we'll see. Flustering Cullen amuses her, but she hasn't felt the spark with him yet. His pre Skyhold conversations just aren't as good is why? I personally love Cullen, so I'm hoping Mara will come round.
Mara is about to do In Hushed Whispers. She brought all the party's mages thus far and Varric's bargaining sense to the meeting and all of them had something to say.
Her stance on her companions are thus:
Cass: Strong, both in battle and personality, and faithful with enough doubts about herself to keep her grounded, Mara admires her greatly. May even kinda want to be like her, although Mara may not admit it to herself yet.
Blackwall: His bite and intensity has garnered her interest, and his words of Wardens inspiring to someone like Mara. Everyone keeps pinning their hopes on her in spite of her protesting that they do so.
Iron Bull: Mara had met as many Qunari as she'd met mages, which was....zero. But she knew a mercenary when she saw one, and she was comfortable around him regardless of his race. The gossip she'd overheard from that Chantry Sister made her curious about a few things however...
Sera: This girl lives in reality, and Mara was totally on the same page. Close the Breach, get things back to normal, go back to the fun she was having before earning coin being sneaky and during favors for the non noble crowd. (Was grumpy there was no option to totally agree with Sera's introductory speech at the Haven Tavern. Why not?!)
Varric: Mara likes his stories, and his input. And his shady dealings make him a person she feels comfortable getting advice from.
Solas: Odd man, sometimes rude. More of a teaching mentality than she'd prefer in a companion. Even disapproves when she doesn't ask him for advice. Nice butt, he really gets into energizing those veil flames, haha. (I'd never seen him do it, as I'd always played a mage before and done the Veil fire myself.)
Vivienne: Talk about full of herself and her place in the world. Mara enjoyed giving her armor that didn't feed into the woman's vanity; told her that there just wasn't the resources to focus on "pretty" right now. If the woman was so bent about Fashion, she could pay for her own armor. Pfft.

It's a cool game. I always knew it was time to go into the city (after days of wandering about the woods looking for armor and weapons schematics) when he got all hairy.

I'm about 97 hours into Gwenyn's playthrough and Bull and Dorian have finally started their romance banter - woo hoo - and not only that, the banter I got before that was the start of Bull and Solas's chess game. I haven't got that before either. The Frostback Basin is definitely the place to go to get companions chatting.
I crafted The Skin that Stalks for Gwenyn - something I've been looking forward to doing and saving until she was a high level. She's been closing rifts, finishing side quests and following Ameridan's trail. Next up will be Gurd Hoonoowegonnadiefordson. I was thinking of swapping Bull out for Blackwall, but he's been doing so well I'll feel bad
, so I'm going to try with my main team of Solas, Dorian, Bull. Love and chess needs to happen.

So Duran went to the circle tower in lake Calenhad to get mage help against the darkspawn when he discovered they had quite the demon and abomination problem. He has agreed to help Wynne save the circle so he,Wynne, Sten, and Leliana have been fighting their way through demons and abominations well enough but he ran into a sloth abomination and now he is stuck in the sodding fade. Not a place a dwarf expected to find himself. Oh well that won't stop this Aeducan.

I didn't even notice that! Too funny! Too bad they didn't follow Cass' advice and go somewhere else. I hear Antiva has nice beaches..... ![]()

I hate the dog story.
Avoiding it was the only reason I skipped his quest in one of my games. I much prefer the romance version, even if you do end up naked and alone in the barn later. At least the naked part is avoidable.
So, as I was planning out my DA2 game last night while working on Emma in the CC, I realized I made a horrible mistake. Daria romanced Alistair and kept him in the Wardens. I did this because I am hoping to get the Morrigan/Alistair convo about Kieran later on in DAI. Emma is supposed to romance Fenris. This means I have to choose between breaking Daria's or Fenris' heart when it comes time to leave someone in the Fade! Well, sh*t.
What am I going to do now?! ![]()

You can avoid it? I thought the only way of getting out of it was to A. Not recruit him B. Romance him C. Tick him off till he leaves. So if you don't do his quest, he just stays Blackwall the phony forever?I didn't even notice that! Too funny! Too bad they didn't follow Cass' advice and go somewhere else. And I still can't kill Alastair. I've set myself up for Aria Hawke vs Alastair showdown intentionally, but Aria wants to atone for bad decisions hardcore, from her Templar siding play through, whereas my previous Hawke was super in love with her crazy Anders and had no interest in dying for anyone.
Edit add: I just realized that Aria Hawke met a King Alistair in DA2, but then set up a Keep where Alastair was a Warden.
Huh. I broke my own Origin story. Oops?

Yep. I just stopped talking to him at that point. He will stick around to defeat Corypheus but will not show up in Trespasser. There is a different "the last 2 years" codex entry for him for this circumstance.

No, because I reeeeeallllyyy didn't want to hear that story again.
And since he was still around, and Trespasser wasn't a thing yet, it was fine. I will say though that, with Trespasser, I really don't like having missing companions. That final shot is just too lonely without everyone there.

Got out of the fade and saved Irving and the other mages, being grateful to Duran for saving his skin Irving commited the circle to the Grey Warden cause. Wynne also asked to accompany Duran on his journeys. Not going to say no to a mage with her healing abilities. Duran gets the feeling there are more nasty fights ahead for him.

Mara brought Varric and Sera along for that nasty business. She has a lot of emotions to sort through on that and other matters for certain. Something about how seeing Sera so epic and save the world affected her. About how warmly Varric smiled to see that she was alive, after she'd been "gone" a year. All the darkness that maybe, somehow, she could prevent. Or should try to...

Gurd Harofsen is a goner, he is no more, he's an ex Gurd. Bull went down a lot, as expected (what? Shhh), there was one full party wipe, but other than that Dorian and Solas stayed on their feet. Gwen did confess to Leap Shotting into a void a couple of times. Bees happened, many bees and confusion grenades. It was chaotic and fun.
The dragon fight. A bit chaotic and inefficient, but the job got done
.
Back at Skyhold, Gwen found out that Dorian and Bull were maybe more than just a fling. I like that these two have got together, as Gwen is romancing Cullen and can't take him adventuring, it's nice to have a bit of romance on the road
.

So Juliana and company killed some people. Obtaining power is a bloody business. Just look at the mess on Cass's shield.

We made it to Val Royeaux. Things went south pretty darn quickly.

We went to Redcliffe and met this well dressed guy with an artfully placed moustache.

He said some things in a charmingly Tevinter kind of way.

Side note. I'm really liking the freckles on Juliana. Also tead Red lipstick for life.

Chayim reclaimed Heidrun Thaig on first try. That's always a reason to share and celebrate.
He also did the second round in the Jaws of Hakkon dlc arena, had a heart to heart with Solas (that guy really needs to talk to more people), told Cullen to stop doing drugs and turned Blackwall into a preacher man. All in all, a productive day in the live of a Herald. Now all he needs to do is to give Josie a kiss on the cheek and his day is complete.
