Alistair makes great Survival expert  Or any party memeber you always take with you.

Or... You can use Leliana

The Warden has to have the Stealing talent for the quest to work.

Edit: Just checking the wiki for clarification. Here is what it says:

The Warden needs either the Stealth talent or to have learnt the Stealing skill for Slim Couldry to appear. He will offer the interested Warden two types of jobs: burglaries and pick-pocketing. The Warden may decline both or one of the proposed job types, or accept them. Once a job is done, Slim Couldry will have some dialogue about it and if the Warden is interested in more jobs, then Slim will offer the next job in line, provided that the conditions of acquiring the next quest are met. If they are not, then he will tell the Warden that he is still working on it and to "come back later".

Note: Ideally the Warden must have both the Stealth and Stealing skill in order to complete all eight quests. However, if only the stealing skill is present, both quest lines can become available by choosing the "I want to know it all" dialogue option, and the quests may be completed using companions.

That last part makes it sound like both quest lines won't be available if the Warden has only Stealth at the beginning.

That would explain why Slim Couldry didn't appear at all in my last DAO PT.  My Warden was a mage, no Stealth, or Stealing.

The wiki is kind of unclear on exactly what is required. At the beginning it makes it sound like either skill will get you the full quest line, then it introduces a "but" at the end of the entry.

As for Survival, I just checked the halla quest entry....that one can be any party member with 2 ranks or more. :)

Yep, let Wynne do it last time, cause I needed my points for Coercion. :) And it made sense to me that Wynne would know something about animals.

I was getting frustrated about the IB romance line. I'd never done it before so didn't know when things kicked in. Personally, it was as uncomfortable as I thought it would be.

Regardless, Mara was the curious one. A little romp and roleplay was great to blow off some steam after all this save the world stuff, but then Iron Bull was making it sound like serious power play was going to be a thing between them going forward.

Spoiler

Mara said, "Regardless of what happened before, I'm not comfortable with this." Respectfully, Iron Bull accepted her rejection and left.

--------------

I went through this a few times to explore the conversation. And I have to say, if you say No the first time he offers, he's very accepting. If you say No the second time, he makes an annoyed grunt before also leaving. Which was definitely not as respectful. I'm leaving it as No the first time, because his line about making sure I'm "very comfortable" squeaked us both out and would have changed Mara's relationship with him. This way, it was just a one night stand with a little misunderstanding mixed in.

I also wanted to say this... Sometimes the heart icon lines are better than what is otherwise given. I've "flirted" with Cassandra plenty, with approval from her, mainly because my character actually admires her. Just not sexually. Mara doesn't admire Josephine and doesn't give her similar over the top admiration, and has never used a heart icon. The heart icon for Bull after his Qun mission had me insisting strongly that he was a good man. I like this a lot. I'd do it again in the future if it were an option. How is assuring a friend that they are a good person a flirt?

Today Duran went to Orzammar got revenge, crowned a king, gained an army, but most importantly got the armor I always wanted.  The Orzammar arc is probably my favorite one in DAO.

This time I have pics

I feel like it's certainly more fleshed out than the Brecillian Forest story. Last time I played, I forgot to bring Shale. The experience of her finding out who she was, without Caridin telling her,  was not as good.

Yeah the Shale factor adds another dimension to a well written arc.  Because of Shale I can't bring myself to side with Branka even though I keep telling myself I will one of these times.  My current DN playthrough would have been a good opportunity to since the DN is more likely than most to use ruthless methods to put Orzammar first.  I can't help it I am too much of a nice guy for my own good.

The only time I sided with Branka, I left Shale at camp so I wouldn't have to kill her. I also then convinced Branka to forget about the Anvil. She killed herself, but I still got the achievement for siding with her. B)

I wish Shale had been available for Golems of Amgarrak. That would have made it not quite so awful. I'm sure she would have had quite a bit to say about, well, everything, and would have thumped Jarrak Dace good for thinking recreating Caridin's work was a good idea.

Made it out of the wilds without getting eaten by an ogre to a spec of a village off the highway called Lothering... Place kind of smells like arm pit, but seems quiet for now. Darkspawn won't be far behind us though. This place is going to get torched... The people here know it too.

There is a big guy in a cage mumbling to himself. Could be crazy... Could be useful... Need to hit the tavern and see what's been happening while Alistair and I have been recovering from... from... Need to keep moving...

Yeah, I always hoped Lothering was practically empty when the Darkspawn swept through, but I also remember the people making "traps" in their fields, as if that would save them from the main Horde. They had no concept of the danger bearing down on them. So, despite my hope, I also think that a third of the inhabitants were probably still there. Loghain sucks for so many reasons, but that he didn't leave behind some soldiers to actively evacuate that city is definitely one of them.

Both my playthroughs, I wasn't into Roleplaying yet, so I recruited him both times without much thought. Maybe the second time, I was playing a bit of a vengeful power hungry female Cousland, so maybe I was like, "duh, more minions." But husband is playing and said his dwarf would never recruit such an unapologetic murderer; and didn't recruit him. I've started a third playthrough as a male dalish elf, and I have been chewing on that myself. My memories of Sten are: his growling at my dog; How touched he was that I found his sword. Of his firm telling of his story, where essentially his brain melted at the loss of his sword, and he did not think what he did was right and that fighting the Blight could be a possible attonement. His saying he was smililng when we parted and some concept of honorable friendship if we ever met on the battle field. You're like, redeeming non Qun in his eyes. Also, death by Darkspawn sounds horrifying. This knowledge really colors my view of Sten, but my Dalish Elf won't have that knowledge. @_@

This day didn't go how Clint anticipated it.

Planned was that he and his cousin Soris would marry two elven women, but a rude human disturbed the peace in the alienage by harrassing them.

Spoiler

Clint told the human, that he wasn't welcome here, but when he didn't want to leave, Shianni hit him with a bottle.

Spoiler

With that guy finally gone, Clint and Soris finally met their future wives.

Spoiler

When they wanted to talk to Valendrian about the wedding, they also met another human named Duncan.

He was a Grey Warden looking for new recruits.

Clint asked him some stuff, but soon left for his wedding.

Spoiler

Just as the Chantry Sister started with the wedding ceremony, the human from before appeared again and kidnapped Clint's and Soris's wife.

Clint didn't hesitate and went on a rescue mission with Soris, killing every human he met in the Arl's Estate.

Including the son of the Arl, aka the guy who had kidnapped his bride.

Spoiler

Of course what they did didn't get undetected and soon the city guard came into the alienage in search for the murderers.

Clint didn't want Soris to get punished too, so he told the guard that he alone murdered everyone in the estate.

Just as the guard wanted to take Clint away, Duncan intervened and conscripted him for the Grey Wardens.

Duncan took him to Ostagar and just as they entered the ruins a man in golden armor approached them.

It was King Cailan himself.

He greeted Clint and was very enthusiastic about the Grey Wardens.

Spoiler

Duncan then told Clint to meet up with another Grey Warden, Alistair, so Clint started searching for this guy.

While doing that he met two other recruits, Daveth and Ser Jory, talked to the Kennel Master about a wounded Mabari, talked to an elderly mage named Wynne and bought a new backpack.

When Clint finally found Alistair, he was arguing with a mage about something. After the mage left they introduced themselves and talked a litte.

In short, Clint just met his new best friend. :D

Spoiler

Having found Alistair the two of them went back to Duncan, who then sent them into the Korcari Wilds to gather some stuff for the joining.

There still there, so TBC :D

I'm sad the male pc's wife-to-be gets the same wedding dress as the female pc. :(

Who is Clint going to romance? Will he have an awkward, "What do you mean, you're betrothed??!" conversation like Daria had with Alistair?

Oh they do? :( maybe it's a elven community dress and they only have two of them, which get handed down?

Clint's gonna romance Zevran. :D This is the first time I'm romancing him for real (after he stealthmanced my elf mage Bruce, who then got into trouble with Morrigan :?) so idk if he'll get that line too.

The elven wedding dress is also semi casual wear for the Orzammar's high class. 1 sovereign and 26 silvers from the silk merchants stall.

Personally I prefer to switch into Soris outfit when I play a lady elf.

Spoiler
Also, if you are playing a male, there are extra conversations with the peeps in the alienage after the girls have been whisked away.

---

Kaltenzahn has finally accepted her death by bees. Sandy the Howler also hit the ground buzzing and even the magnificent Vinsomer did not survive the brutal onslaught of three ladies and their metal cattle. Only the Ravager remains.

The Iron Bull did not approve of Vinsomer demise, so if the adoribull talks trigger, their relationship will survive. Whoop. And this was on Ramona's save.

She also almost got to witness a good Orlesian hanging, but Blackwall was a party popper. So she'll probably send him to the Wardens. That will teach him!

In other sad news, Widdles has finally joined the Inquisition, since Harritt would not fix the Suledin blade. After the ladies get under Calpernia's skin the batch will finally be ready to hit the Arbor Wilds. Fun times all around.

I did also fire up Origins and met up with Valeriya Brosca for a brief moment. There were some assassinations and discussions about turtles and the merit of their shells, but nothing serious. There were also brief visits to some other wardens, but nothing to write home about.

So, Mara was chatting it up with Vivienne about dressing up to look the part of the Inquisitor and Mara realized that Viviene reminds her of her mother. Fussy about her appearance, pushing her into politics in a supportive way. Mara is not on good terms with her mother, so she has mixed feelings about this but is leaning towards liking it. Considering she thought she'd hate the woman for the rest of her time with her after meeting her at first, I thought it was funny to see Mara taking a liking to her.

Well now that he is back on the surface after a brief return home Duran managed to take  care of both professional and personal business back in Orzammar and now he can concentrate on being a Grey Warden.   He fought and killed Flemeth (or at least he thinks he did) and now he should have no problem getting into Morrigan's tent now.  Some darkspawn tried to Ambush Duran, Alistair, and the rest of their companions one night in their camp but the darkspawn assassins were dispatched  easily.  One thing is clear the archdemon appears to be aware of their presence in Fereldan after both Duran and Alistair had the same dream.

The last time I played DAO was before DAI came out so it has been a couple of years.  I am definitely getting some perspective from this on both games that I might not have had before.  Since DAI came out I have maintained that while DAI was quite good DAO was still the best game in the series.  I am not so sure of that anymore.  There are definitely things DAO does better.  I like it's pacing no matter what I am doing in DAO I feel like I am advancing the plot or doing something closely related to the plot.  There is no busy work in DAO that is needed to unlock plot points.  Also the npcs are alot more interactive, even minor npcs like store owners get the full cinematic treatment.  With all that said it is clear from a gamplay perspective that DAO is mainly a series of dungeon crawls where we are either finding someone or fetching something. Find the paragon, find the urn, find witherfang, get to Irving etc...  From a gameplay perspective DAI is alot more interesting, capturing keeps, finding stuff off the beaten path, building up the inquisition etc,... is all alot of fun but at the same time it has alot of filler content that gets grindy,  In all honesty it kind of depends on the particular zone you are in.  The Western Approach for instance has alot of cool stuff to do off the beaten path.  If Inquisition had better pacing and had more emphasis on cinematic storytelling even with minor stuff it would definitely be the better game.

Emma is slowly building up her bank account. She's got enough coin to join the expedition now, but still has a few things left undone. I just started the "First Sacrifice" quest and saved Emeric from some thugs. I also have "Enemies Among Us" to do - need to talk to the recruits to see what they know about Keran. I took a while before finally helping Anders, and none of those quests (or Isabela) show up until after that's done.

I sent Feynriel to the Dalish then later, when I headed back to the camp for ironbark, I got a conversation with Marethari I hadn't seen before. She talks about the difficulty of training him since he's human. She then thanks Hawke for helping him and pays her a sovereign as reward.

As for friendship, I think I have both Carver and Fenris at +45. I wish the bar had notches so it would be easier to tell the value. I haven't triggered Fenris' special passive, though, so I know it's not to 50 yet.

It's been such a long time since I played diplomatic Hawke. I miss the snarkiness and everyone else's face-palms at the stuff she says. :P

I don't know if I've ever gotten that conversation either.

Omg, I don't know if I could play a diplomatic Hawke again after playing as Snarky Hawke to the point of hurting at the inappropriateness. how grumpy people would get and they'd still talk to me. HAHA

I think the lack of banter is hurting my gameplay. The next step for Mara was to start a relationship with Blackwall, so I added him to her party so she could hear some banter to get the feels going. In an hour, I think I got Iron Bull flirting with him once {Being alone all this time has given you a firm grip on that sword.), the end. Bah.

I am taking a mini break from DA with Mass Effect. I've been breathing Dragon Age for 9 weeks with two plays of each game, the books, the forum, even playing the music as I go to sleep.

I still have half of World of Thedas book 2 and maybe? some comics to read. Still even have some "characters" I want to play. Dalish male elf from Origins (Abelas), Angry Hawke in 2. And definitely want to finish Mara.

She's just having growing pains right now. Her childish fling with Bull makes her concerned about being involved with any of the rest of her crew. Flirting with Blackwall seemed more serious than she had expected it to be. Blackwall: "I'm not good for you. We both have our roles/Duties to play *he stands as far away from her as possible.* wow. Where did the cute innuendo go?

Dark Future Sera is not Present Sera and Mara can't reconcile the two because of how much of an effect Future Sera had on her. Also, the fact that she got on so well with Sera before , but after recent big events, Mara feels older and more mature than Sera. so some distance is growing and she doesn't like it. Mara mourns her lack of freedom as she accepts new responsibilities. Iron Bull caught her with a chart in her bedroom for goodness sake. Like she was Jose!

I'll definitely be popping in to read about Emma and Duran and the rest though. I just need to miss Dragon Age some and I probably will soon.

Emma is all ready for the Deep Roads. She helped Aveline get promoted to Guard-Captain, tracked down some missing Templar wannabes and killed a bunch of crazy blood mages. After paying Bartrand his 50 gold, she had enough money left over to buy some skill and attribute potions (3 altogether :D). She switched out her, Carver's and Anders' weapons for the good stuff. Varric said thanks but no thanks; Bianca is the only one for him.

Oops, better not forget to mention, Emma also accidentally flirted with Anders. Darktown makes you say silly things, I guess.

Anders missing Ferelden

Varric not getting his way with Aveline

I'm sure I noticed this before, but I like how the "Gather Your Party" flags are the same as the artwork in Varric's book.

Didn't do too much today.  Browsed the forums for a bit and then decided to mess around in inquisition by starting out a female dwarven rogue that I probably won't end up doing anything with.  Will return to my DAO Aeducan playthrough tomorrow.  I want to finish up a complete playthrough of DAO including awakening and witchhunt before I take a break from DA in general.  Haven't played the ME trilogy since last december and I want to get back to that.

Okay you lovely bunch of DA players. I have a question (since so many of you have tried multiple things in your various play throughs): I am back into my "self-insert" PT, and romancing Solas. I know everything is fine (having done the Solas romance a few times before), but I have a question about flirting. In particular, one flirt, with IB.

After he becomes Tal Vashoth, the scene where the Qun lamely "tries" to assassinate him, depending on the dialogue options you take, you can get a Heart Option to appear. It has always reminded me of the flirts one can take with some of the other companions that isn't quite so flirty, but more a sign of caring. I love the dialogue you get with this so-called flirt and have used it without repercussions while in a Cullen romance, but wonder if it will cause trouble with the Solas romance. Never tried it before with the previous Solasmance PT's. For the record, I have already had the fade kiss, the balcony kiss, and the dance at Halamshiral. Am just about ready to head to Adamant.

The only bugged out heart options I have ever read about, was Blackwall's heart option on the battlements - it being a soft-lock and blocking one from romancing either Solas and potentially Cullen (unless you proceed with the Blackwall romance far enough to "break it off").

My guess is that it is fine to take this heart option. But dayum....would really hate to have to do that much backtracking, if it somehow messes with the Solas romance. Normally, I wouldn't worry about this, but this is my one and only (and ever) self-insert. I am trying to really do and [/i]say[/i] things that I would, if I was actually in the game. That dialogue option with the heart, is exactly something I would talk about with Bull - hence why I want to take it. But I also know I am committed to finishing the Solas romance with this PT. And I have no plans to do another self-insert again.

Any help on this front, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for reading and giving info/advice. :)

Everyone with good taste likes the one in DC best. ;)

Her taste is questionable.  She willingly listened to Creed back in the day.  Made me stabby to know she owned CDs by a band so terribly and preachy.  Despite that, I still love her.  Plus she bakes muffins and stuff whenever I come to visit.

In other news... this happened...

I dismissed Cole.  Because weirdy.

13244054_10153599455546088_6791559461274

Then I went to Halamsharal and took Vivi..

Wat?  We gave Cole the boot, yo.  I think she might have drank one too many cups of spiced punch.

I wonder if it tastes of dispair?

Also, we killed our first dragon.  Iron Bull was stoked after the kill.
