I met with Warden Alistair in Crestwood, my first time with him as a grey warden.

Jggflig.png

I was pleasantly surprised with the few extra questions and information about the wardens' knowledge of Corypheus and Clarel you get.  You also get earlier access to the Contact Hero of Ferelden wartable operation, which is nice, though Alistair does tell you what she's up to.  Different, but I'm not sure I'll play this often.  I don't like having to choose between Alistair and Hawke later.

Still one of the best shots in the game..

How do you kill Darkspawn?  By Freezing, burning and poisoning it.  Overkill?  Possibly.

I got IB on the Storm Coast and then completely left it.  Decided to go back to it.

Anyhow, I'm out after today for the long Memorial Day weekend.  May your steaks be grilled to perfection and your beers cold (if you eat steak and drink beer).

My last DAI run was with a Warden Alistair it makes the fade choice a lot harder.

Clint Tabris continued his adventure too, but somehow I can't get to write a good post about it. :(

I blame it on my hurting jaw, was at the dentist today for the annual dental hygiene check up, my teeth are so clean, they hurt...

In short:

- Clint got made a Grey Warden, Daveth & Ser Jory died

- the battle of Ostagar started

- Clint & Alistair made it to the Tower of Ishal, which was over run by Darkspawn

- Clint & Alistair killed an Oger and lighted the beacon

- Loghain called for retreat and betrayed the King

- Cailan and Duncan died in the battle

- Darkspawn storm the Tower of Ishal

- Clint & Alistair get saved by Flemeth and are brought to her hut

- Flemeth tells Morrigan to accompany Clint & Alistair

Next stop: Lothering

I'm thinking of leaving Sten in the cage. In my last PT I got his Approval to 100% (gave him his sword etc) and he was still boring as a brick.  <_< I never use him in battle anyway.

One of these days I might choose to dump Morrigan in Lothering. You can do that, right? I just have to make sure I'm playing a mage that time.

How did you get that shot? Isn't it a cutscene? I wanted to flycam that scene, but couldn't get it to work. It's so dramatic, looks great.

Arbuuur Wilds, Arbuuur Wilds. Is the place Chayim and Baldur visited today.
Baldur, being a good Andrastian, barged through the place like a dwarf in a china shop. Morrigan got to drink, because there was no way in the Void Baldur would let some elven wash water slip between his lips. And besides, Morrigan was expendable, he wasn't. Sadly the water was not acid. Now he's going to kill some dragons, while Cory sulks in the corner.
Chayim showed a bit more tact. Because the temple basement is really boring to fight through and I like old Abelass even if he's a bit of a jerk. Calling my dwarf a shemlen, the nerve. And I might also be really, really bad at fighting Samson and need all the help I can get. But that's just a theory that cannot be proven. Morrigan also got the well this time. Because she promised to be Chayim's sword. And the image of his Qunari self swinging her around like a greatsword was way to tempting. Now he just needs to kick Gurd in the shins and kill the last three dragons who pose a threat to Thedas and he's good to go to tease Corypants some more.
Ramona is for the most part ready for Trespasser. Only thing keeping her back is the worry that Iron Bull might turn on her after her last two actions. I hope not, they are dragon killing buddies. And she waited nine hours (yesterday) for him and Dorian to get together. Nine bloody hours. If he turns on her I'll reject that reality and substitute my own.

And now for some actually useful content to this post:
Alistair as a warden is the most fun if you romanced him, are using your favorite Hawke who is romancing your favorite character of the lot and the sibling (preferably the one you like more) is still alive and on good terms with Hawke. Like on Ramonas save! (Minus favorite love interest).
And yes you can boot Morri-pie out after you reached Lothering (or in the camp afterwards).

Gwenyn has finished off the 3 dragons in the EdL. The Highland Ravager got in a lucky shot (as in Gwenyn didn't get out of the way in time ). They're all still built for cold resist after the Frostback Basin. Dorian used the Heart of Despair staff (trial reward), which was perfect for this dragon. I love this staff, it gives him ice armor, which is very pleasing as he's specced into fire.

Spoiler

Dragon fight! or, put that Antivan Fire away, Gwenyn, what are you doing?

Spoiler

Gwen is ready for WPHW and the end of the main story but I really want to take Solas into the Deep Roads. This party is working so well together that I don't want to break them up yet. Besides, Bull and Solas need to finish their chess match. Priorities!

Yes, that's a cutscene, and I only use print screen, no flycam or Fraps.  Just lucky timing...

Mara gets over her growing pains and I am inspired to write. long.

After Mara's graceful -ahem- escape from Corypheus and the avalanche of doom, Mara was still alive if unable to walk without a limp. After limping out of a cave beneath Haven she'd never seen before  falling into it, she found nothing but a frozen blizzard waiting for her outside. Well, it was either stay here and starve to death or go out and look for the survivors of Haven. Not one for staying still, she opted for the searching. An empty wagon and a cold campsite later, she was starting to wonder, shivering, if this had been a good idea. She continued nonetheless; stopping would just make the cold that much worse.

In the end, she was successful. Or near death, she wasn't certain which.

Spoiler

Mara was roused by the shouting of her leaders. The debate seemed pretty circular and useless as well as noisy. Giselle shared some thoughts; her accent made listening a lot easier. Giselle. From day one, this woman had been pushing for her to take a more active role in the events, more active than simple Rift Closer and populace proclaimed Herald. Giselle asked Mara what she thought all of the recent events meant. Mara said her belief one way or the other wouldn't help anyone. The mood in the camp was sour, and Mara already wanted to leave and she'd just arrived. Stepping away from the tent, the hopelessness was palpable. And then Giselle broke into a song, quiet and strong. Others joined and Mara was in the middle of a moment she'd only thought happened in story books.

Spoiler

Immediately after this shockingly pleasant event, Solas waved her over and they had a chat about the Orb Cory wielded being elven and what the group's next move should be. A new base, obviously, and he had one in mind. Solas told her to lead the people to this new base. But since only he knew the directions, this suggestion sounded like a PR move worthy of Jose if she'd ever heard one. She agreed to it nonetheless.

When they crested a mountain to find a breathtaking view of a massive castle, her jaw dropped a little. Speechless, Solas smiled and declared they'd found their destination: Skyhold.

A few days later, the castle was bustling. Jose and Leliana had insisted on her wearing a fetching beige suit, having hidden her blades and other clothing. Mara had had enough of this, and approached Cassandra. Surely a strong woman like her would understand that not having her weapons was as good as being naked. Immediately, however, Cassandra started telling Mara how important she was to the organization as they walked forward up some stairs. Mara realized she'd been tricked into having an audience as Leliana held a ceremonial sword before her. Both stated that she'd been leading them anyway, she was able to make decisions. She was to be the next Inquisitor.

Spoiler

She accepted the sword in all seriousness, her thoughts coalescing about what this meant.

Spoiler

A rallying cry spread and Mara felt giddy. Time to see what they were working with. She and her advisers stepped into the main portion of the castle, which had been little more than scouted at this point. And man. After that moment back in the courtyard, it was pretty anticlimactic to see just how destroyed the inside looked. Talk about let down.

Mara accepted some reading materials from Jose to study up on. What could Mara say, the feeling from the courtyard was still on her.

Spoiler

Mara was happy to drop them when Iron Bull showed up in her room.

Spoiler

However, as fun as that was, that ended up more of an embarrassing awkward "thing" they discussed later, and she told Iron Bull it would not be repeated.

Mara took her group, Dorian, Iron Bull, and Blackwall to the Storm Coast and pretty much cleared the area except for a bandit hold.

When they returned back to Skyhold for resupply and selling of junk, Mara had a chat with Blackwall. He'd been standing in the courtyard throwing glances her way for long enough. They walked the battlements as they discussed Skyhold. The conversations tone changed when Mara shared that she wouldn't let Cory kill anyone else if she could help it, especially not him and her other companions. Blackwall created some distance between them before turning to speak to her. "I'm not good for you. We both have our roles and duties to uphold, especially with you as Inquisitor now."

Wow. Where did the cute innuendo go? Still, she felt she'd been chided and she stomped back to her quarters.

Mara was out of sorts. She felt trapped and angry at herself for accepting something she wasn't ready for. Tricked into accepting really, who would walk away with a mass of people watching from accepting the position of Inquisitor? Varric had someone he'd been wanting her to meet for a while and she felt nothing but avoidance regarding meeting grand people of worth. Grabbing her blades, she thought of a quiet way out of Skyhold. She wasn't going to abandon the cause. But she was going to go take a break. She couldn't feel like herself with so many personalities around her tugging parts of her she didn't even know.

Off to the Storm Coast, with no one to miss her very long. Well, she did leave a cryptic note so no one would think her kidnapped. Jose was imaginative and Leliana volatile.

-----

Mara woke up in the room assigned to her in Skyhold and groaned from a soreness that healing magic could only do so much for. She'd outdone herself this time; trying to take out that bandit leader by herself.  She was just trying to prove-- well, it didn't matter what she'd been trying to prove. She'd nearly died. Would have, if Sera hadn't noticed her slipping out from Skyhold in the first place

"You're stupid." Mara turned her head on the pillow and stared into Sera's eyes above her. Sera was hanging out on the ledge up there. "We had a deal, ya? You stop all the weird stuff and things go back to normal." Sera dropped down with grace, although she'd probably hate that word being applied to her.

"Coripherface muddied it up a bit, but that's why you got people. Lots of people, trying to help. Even I'm here and I don't like things being so...real." She got quiet with that last word, and turned her back on Mara, who was still just listening.

"But people can't help if you don't bring 'em, idiot." She said, walking over to the stairwell. Sera glared at her from the top step, "Wake up already. You've got more to worry about than just your breeches."

And Sera left.  Mara sat up and had a good long think.

Spoiler

WHAT  was she doing that even Sera felt the need to chide her? Mara accepted the position of Inquistior simply to run away and dally on multuple fronts; an embarrassing fling with Iron bull, avoiding a respectful request from Varric, bouncing over to Blackwall for a flirt, sneaking around Leliana's spies and Sera just so she could almost end up killed. It was time to grow some resolve and own up to her decisions. Mara had promises to keep and responsibilities she'd accepted to follow through on. And her first step, as odd as this sounded, was to write a letter to her mother.

-------

Till next time.

P.S. I like how all my Inquisitors, I pick an outfit from the dresser that actually suits their color tone. My first redheaded human mage wore the blue sparkly casual, my tan elf mage wore the red scarf with white gloves, and this Inquisitor is rocking this purple leather thing. Still haven't made an Inquistor that looks good in those quilted outfits though.

Been taking a break from DA for a few days due to burnout but I haven't forgotten the dwarven warrior who is determined to stop the fifth blight.  Maybe it's because the Brecilian Forest is up next for me and I am not looking forward to getting lectured from the Dalish about how bad those big mean humans have been to them.  Duran's people have lost nearly everything in their unending war with the darkspawn and some forest frolicking elves want to whine to him about how their people have suffered?

If it helps, at least you can kill the lot of them if you want to. :P

Emma did some hunting in Hightown....hmm, you think Varric could use that for his next book? Anyway, Varric had it from a reliable source that good 'ol Bartrand was back in town, so the two of them, along with Anders and Fenris, decided to pay a visit. Not exactly the reunion they were expecting though. The idol that Bartrand had double-crossed them for had apparently driven him mad and was still affecting him even though he sold it. The house guards attacked them on sight and no staff was anywhere to be found. They eventually ran into Bartand's steward, who told them Bartrand had used everyone else in experiments so they could "hear the song" like he could. He was locked in the study, and attacked them as soon as they opened the door. Finally, he came to his senses, and Anders did .. something .. to help him at least temporarily realize what he'd done. He begged, actually begged, Varric to help him. How could he refuse?

Next stop, since it was right around the corner, was the du Puis estate. The Templar Emeric suspected Gascard du Puis of being involved in the murders of several women, but since he had been barred from investigating further, and the guard weren't any help <_<, he asked Hawke to see what she could find. [I decided to not bring Aveline along on any of the murder missions since it strikes me as completely unbelievable that she would say there's no evidence if she actually saw the evidence for herself.]

First thing they were greeted by upon entering the house: shades. As Fenris observed, looks like they're in the right place. Room by room they searched, more shades and demons summoned to stop them. Someone really didn't want to be found. Finally, at the end of a long hall, they opened a door to find Gascard standing over a terrified woman and looking extremely guilty. Except, he wasn't. Well, not exactly. He claimed he was also searching for the killer, who had murdered his sister, and had taken the woman to use as bait. The mention of a dead sister made Hawke think of Bethany. If Bethany had been killed by a person instead of darkspawn, how far would she go to see justice done? So, she told Gascard she would help him, but he wasn't interested. Instead, he said he would head to Darktown to look for more leads. [Also unbelievable that neither Fenris nor Anders have anything to say about letting him go. Not sure what I will do later, but I'm leaning toward using du Puis to track Leandra so Varric can shoot him.]

Next up: Dissent

I think My Inkies are bored today.

Adaar: Come on, I need go kill something. Didn't you promise me we'd go after the Highland Ravager today?

Ayla: I'm supposed to be helping Cullen at the Shrine today but, I can't do it if you won't load me.

Lyn: Hey, get back here! You said you'd help me get Black er.. Thom out of prison today.

Kadeth: Oh come on, you aren't going to leave me standing here with Cory staring me in the face are you?

Me: Chill gang, I've got to get these green beans canned, the cucumbers pickled and, the summer squash in the freezer before I can have fun with y'all. I do have a life outside of the computer you know.

I finished Uncharted 4, so I was going to start a female Vashoth DW Assassin run, but then I saw a notice that Valkyria Chronicles: Remastered had launched, so ... I'll be doing that for a while. Running 84/8.0 on Metacritic, which is kind of amazing given that it's so old-school. DAI is 89/7.4 on PS4 for comparison, lol.

Believe me I am tempted to but my dwarf noble is trying to restore his honor and redeem his house, therefore I am generally going to go the honorable route with him.  That is why I have him equipped with the legion armor while and the shield of Aeducean.  I still haven't decided what I am going to do about Loghain when the time comes.  I am thinking in the end I will conscript him.

Well canning and freezing nearly done. What in the heck did I feed that garden to be getting 10 pounds of green beans, a full bushel of summer squash and 5 pounds of cucumbers this early in the year? I don't even have a ripe tomato yet - 25 plants full of green ones but no ripe ones yet LOL.

No I can eat my roast chicken and pester y'all a bit, then go help Adaar kill a few dragons, might get Lyn through the Shrine and, go rescue Blackwall too. Kadeth, not sure if I want to end that game or reload so, he can wait until I decide. He is a good looking elf and, I could do a few side quests I skipped but, don't want to not have the romance option with Dorian on him for that so, may reload to before the fight he's stuck in.

Such decisions, as if the world were hanging on what I might do. LOL (ask my partner, he thinks that I think an in game decision might be world altering :P )

Argh! I messed up my Fenris romance! :pinched: Don't know if it was skipping the flirt with him during the drinking scene or the one flirt I did with Anders right before that but, I got no romance scene/option during A Bitter Pill. :(  Now I can either plow ahead and possibly romance no one, or go back 7 hrs game time to fix it. Argh!!

I don't copy paste when I write these things because I constantly preview to make sure the spoiler images are buried correctly and that I didn't accidentally pick the wrong image from photo bucket. I'm not sure I understand the complaint about blanket of white other than, perhaps? A comment about it's length. I will write what I write, however, so if length is the problem, just skip me :P

I've always wondered if skipping one would make the boat of single Dom set sail or not. Guess now I know? I like the option to flirt, but I wonder how well a "proposal" gift would go over in DA so that you can say anything to anyone and they relationship wouldn't initiate till the gift.... second thought, nah. I liked the Characters flirting back, made them feel more alive.
