It's close.  :D  The protag's jaw and nostrils seem slightly more narrow.

Finally finished and posted Chapter 18 of my Origins novelization, The Grey Path, hooray! Completed the bulk of it over my West Coast vacation; the break really seemed to loose the old writers block a bit. Here's a small sample for you all:

Andreia collected the third and final Venatori tome for her rift mage intro course. Now she's short 1 ring velvet thanks to making herself and Dorian some new armor. <_< Here's hoping at least one of the Dead Hand skeletons drops a bit o' the stuff since I don't want to hit the ramparts just for 1 measly ring velvet. I've done a good job of avoiding them all so far. The Plains aren't so bad when you do that.

Am I terrible for wanting to play DA2 again? The only reason I say that.. everyone seems to think that game is terrible, what with it's reused maps, locked armor, and Hawke being an anti hero with no middle choice (lack of choices in general.) Why do I not want to play DA:I all day with it's lovely graphics and also good characters... I was looking at Mods and thinking about the evil Hawke I wanted to play and then started watching fan videos and now I just want to drag it up on my computer.

I've play DAO twice through with a third character started.
DA2 twice through and want to play evil Hawke.
But I have two Inquisitors I haven't finished!

I've been telling myself to finish my Quiz, then my Dalish Warden and THEN I could play Evil Hawke with an import. But since I had wanted to WRITE these plays up, this puts considerable distance between me and what I want to play.

Also, I have no idea how to use mods. Is there a "How to read "Mods for dummies" for dummies" thing?

People talk about file names this and replace that and... @_@ right click rename file is the closest I've gotten to modifying a file.

Edit Add:

I did figure out how to get DA2 to actually take screen shots for me. I give myself a pat on the back for that, and go to bed. ^^

The journey of Warden Drako Amell thus far,

The tale continues,

It's been almost three months since the Archdemon fell. My companions and I have gone our seperate ways. I am making my way towards Amaranthine. From Vigil's Keep I will attempt to rebuild the Grey Wardens of Ferelden. Not a small task. Many will die in the Joining, but the Darkspawn are still a threat. Wardens are needed. I have personal matters to attend to, but this task takes priority. Have to focus...

...A recruit met me at the city gates. As Commander of the Grey it seems I am not allowed to travel on my own. Aren't I special. Recruit Mhairi is high minded and far too uptight. We came across a group of bandits on the road to the Arling. I could have dispatched them with a have of my hand, but this young fire brand charged at them full steam. Her skills with a sword and shield cannot be denied. She defeated them handily. If she survives the Joining, she will be a great asset to the Order. If she survives...

...Upon reaching Vigil's Keep we notice something odd. No guard to meet us. No one on the walls. It was clear that something was wrong. We hear the screams of a man running for his life being chased by Genlocks. Not a time to indulge Mhairi, a grease slick and fire ball make quick work of them. Not sure if it was the large explosion or the ease at which I did it, but Mhairi seemed shocked. I think I scared her. Does not bode well for her Joining if this is enough to spook her.

After seeing to the runner, we head into the keep. The place is crawling with the beasts. We save who we can as we cut down the Darkspawn. We eventually make our way inside and come across a runaway mage, I don't think we ever actually met in the Circle, but I do recall some tales of his.. or tales he is claiming are his. Something for later. He takes up the rear guard as Mhairi and I sweep forward.

Soon I hear the battle cries of a dwarf. The belligerence is far too recognizable. My eyes soon see what my ears have heard... and nose has smelled... Oghren. Swinging a Battle Axe twice his size at monsters three times his size and he couldn't be happier.

We make our way through the Keep until we reach the top. There is a Darkspawn holding a Warden captive... the beast spoke. I've never heard a Darkspawn speak before. Did not even think it possible. This creature is different. Not sure what to make of it's ramblings, but we have no time to study it. Mores the pity. We kill it and finally reclaim the Keep just in time for a royal welcome. Arl Howe did not take proper care of this place. If it is to be a home base for the Wardens, it will need a lot of work. I've ordered a sweep of the entire facility to find were the Darkspawn came from.

A lot of good men and women died. All but one of the Wardens. The rank and file are shaken. Where did those things come from? One of Howe's children was in a holding cell. It was said that it took several wardens to catch and restrain him. Some call for his execution, but I have another idea. He will go through the joining along with Oghren, Anders, and Mhairi...

Mhairi did not survive. A damn shame. She was a fine warrior. I will see that she gets a knights pyre. She earned that tonight... Hell of a first day. Wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Not everyone. I rather like DA2. The only things I do not like is the boring environments, cookie dungeons, idiotic loot, no armor and equipment customization for protag and companions.

One of the things that actually stood out in DA 2 was companion reaction. Aveline remembers what Hawke did. If Hawke sold her husband's shield and Hawke offered her another, she would be angry and tell Hawke off.

I was taken aback by that. Ok, so you do remember that particular shield. Note to self; don't sell it in the next PT. :D

Nope. DA2 isn't a bad game, it was just mauled by the hype train. On it's own it is a good game with a solid story and decent looking areas, if a bit repetitive. As for the graphics, they don't really matter. Which is why there are still people playing dos games and text adventures. And why I've been playing Quest for Glory EGA the last few days instead of Dragon age :)

Mods for which game are you wondering about? And is it any mod in particular?

Guys, do you think my character looks like Alistair?

I want to play him, but his name is Aedan, that start with A like Alistair, and his nose and hair are too similar.

The only similarity to me is the hairstyle. Aedan has slimmer facial features than Alistair and his eyes are beautiful

Yes, yes. I did it again. Started a new character, when I still have four other PT's being played. Had this idea about a M!Elf First, who came into is magic fairly young (8yrs old). When he was told his father died during a hunting incident, his magic erupted so ferociously - imbued with the elements, and resulting in an elemental mind blast - his hair turned white. Okay...Not terribly original. But for me, who usually goes out of the way to play more sedate/mundane type characters, I wanted one that started with a "Bang!", so to speak. *shrug*

His name is Ilan Lavellan (named for one of the Emerald Knights). 26, on the cusp of 27. He is the youngest character I have played to date. He will find himself inexplicably attracted to Dorian (I say inexplicably, since he had never looked at Humans that way till the Inquisition).

Now for a couple of photo-bombs:

Spoiler

BTW, I did finish Samhal's PT finally. He plans to help his lovely Cass, continue her rebuild of the Seekers, while looking for options to talk down his "wolfie" friend, from the ledge.

You can start here:
http://daimodder.tum...anager-tutorial

The latest version is 0.59 (I think)

There are a ton of mods at DA Nexus. Some don't work with the latest patches so read the descriptions carefully. I was bummed the more research item drops one isn't compatible. :(

Go here http://www.nexusmods.com

then pick DAI from the "search" list.

One of the things that actually stood out in DA 2 was companion reaction. Aveline remembers what Hawke did. If Hawke sold her husband's shield and Hawke offered her another, she would be angry and tell Hawke off.

Actually, she accuses you of selling it even if you didn't but just don't have it in your inventory at the time. I've never sold it, but I usually stash it, along with everyone else's starting weapons, in the storage box at home. Now I take it out and bring it with me just so she doesn't say that.

White Claw Footpads (rogues) in the Western Approach can drop ring velvet.

Avoiding WA for now. I probably won't get out there until after WEWH since I'm trying to get the Alistair/Morrigan garden party this time around.

I know that a lot of people say Rivalry path makes no sense, at best it's like an "agree to disagree" ,but I think it adds so much replay ability to the game.  In origins, if  some of them hated you, they left. Same for Inquisition. So, major consequences if you didn't make everyone at least neutral. Honestly, I don't know how to not be friends with everyone in Inquisition, guess an overall evilness? I pretty much play the way I want, and everyone has liked me through three play throughs.

I wonder if I've just never sold her shield.. I am sentimental like that. I've never heard her make a comment about the shield one way or another.

Slimmer features and totally different eyes; but it does look like you're trying to make someone look like Alistair, so it's close enough. I mean, DA2 Zevran looked nothing like Origins Zevran, but there was resemblance enough...

It's my understanding that Bioware did not release a "tool kit" and because of this lack, there are not many mods.

Actually, one of the things I wanted was that Fenris coat I saw in some of your pics.

So this is an example of how much I don't know. I clicked that link. It said I needed a mod manager.  So I click that link.

First paragraph: This Mod Manager may require you to ‘Repair Game’ from Origin, and of course you want to make sure you delete or move your previous Patch_ModManagerMerge folder from Update before merging any mods.

What is 'repair game'.... I don't have a patch mod folder?

Also, the picture directions are for Inquistion, not DA2? Do I need a different one?

Couldn't help myself and started another DA2. Had a laugh pretty darn early on when Vex told Flemyth to buzz off. And the. She decided to help anyway. And Vex said, "Didn't I just say I didn't need your help?"

Hahahahahhahaha ah..... wonderful. I can tell already that I will have fun playing angry Hawke.

Using mods with DA2 is usually not a hassle. But creating your own mods can be.
I use PC but it seems Mac is mostly the same. You need something to extract rar and zip files, I like using 7zip. But if you have something already that is fine too.
Usually it's "click the file name, just download the file, extract it and toss the erf file into: My documents/Bioware/Dragon age 2/Packages/Core/Override".

To repair your game you need to open the Origin client- go to the games tab- right click the Inquisition icon and select repair game. I think it's basically reinstalling the game without downloading it all over again. Handy if something breaks or catches on fire. :)

The patch mod folder comes after you install at least one mod with the mod manager.  So if you are trying it for the first time, you don't need to worry about that.
And yes, mod manager is for Inquisition. Installing mods for DA2 is easier to do manually. :)

So wow, it has been 9 days since I checked in with Kelebek. When I last left her she was ready to attempt In your Heart Shall Burn.

I sent Kelebek for a quick detour to Redcliffe to buy (from whichever vendor it was) sets of masterwork scout gear and superior warrior gear. I tried to get the Dreamweaver staff from Val Royeaux for Solas but I couldn't find the vendor?

Kelebek ended up not having too much of a hard time, although evil!Fiona did wipe the party once. Things happened, Elder One is an arse, yadda yadda, Kelebek accepts the position of Inquisitor for Qunari and I get to one of the parts of the game I've been waiting for:

Checking out the DLC decor! Kelebek decked out all the things in Par Vollen stylings and, after the exhausting task of talking to all companions and everyone else, skipped off to the battlements to the next thing I was looking forward to:

Getting reaquanted with Tommy Hawke! When I imported Chicken (my avatar) I had a real easy time of it. See, as long as you got blonde bun hair, blue/green eyes and atrocious pink makeup then you got Chicken. When I imported her for my cannon game I didn't use a reference because a) I didn't have one and B) once you get her basic features down you can see her emerge easy enough...if that makes any sense. With Tommy I wanted to make him as close as possible...I thought i did ok?

tommies1.png

I obviously had to make do for his hair and eyebrows but I felt I got close? Close enough that even with the horrible lighting in Hawkes character creator I felt happy clicking accept.

This is what I got in game:
Spoiler

He was well off. Yes, his nose looks a bit beaky compared to DA2 and I'll rectify that for my next playthrough. But what made him so off I don't think I can fix in the CC - it's his angry angry grrr face. Tommy Hawke is purple, and not just mostly purple. He is unapologetically inappropriate purple.

I've played through this scene 5 times before so I knew he would be out of character - I guess I just wasn't really prepared? Chicken was a mix of blue/purple with a smattering of red so it never bothered me with her, and all my other Hawkes I made up on the spot to sacrifice for a warden so they didn't matter. Only now do I finally understand the complaints everyone had with the direction Hawke's character went. Tommy is also a blood mage, so he will even get more out of character, but at least maybe I can better brace myself for that.

So Tommy is making the super hard fade decision a bit easier on me right now. That's something?

Anyway, last thing Kelebek did for the day was specialise herself as a Tempest.

Hopefully not another 9 days before I can play again!

Edit: I think getting closer matching eyebrows would help Tommy immensely, though. The arch of the ones he has isn't helping. Maybe a mod can save him.

Played a bit of DA2 today.

Did some running around with Nevena. Found the Wayward son, delivered a letter and probably killed a bunch of people.

Messed around with Bethany's armor. Poor girl, first her hair and now her clothes.

Also did a Gurner Session, where he grew some sideburns and wrapped up most of the Qunari part of Act 2. And yes, that did spawn a novel. If anyone has too much time on their hands. Otherwise, do not touch that spoiler button.

Today in the DA verse I mostly read the forums. Yesterday, I read Hawke/Anders/Fenris Smut.  Most of it was disappointingly written to have a submissive Female Hawke though. -_- Or so genetalia centered it was a bit gross.... and started Vex a second time, although I may start him a third time because I am super back and forth on:

  1. Whether I want to figure out Mods before playing him
  2. Whether this play through, where I will execute Anders for the very first time, shall be done by a mage Hawke or a Rogue Hawke.

I was really taken by the idea that it would be done by a Mage Male Hawke. Because Anders "releases" Karl and so I love the idea of a Mage Hawke "releasing" Anders; the story come full circle. Despite that, the only head cannons I can come up with for a Mage Hawke to kill Anders are too noble for the play though I'm shooting for; a kind of "Angry Isabella-ish" Hawke. I also have the goal of rivaling Bethany to see if I can get something out of her that isn't so super bland, which requires a rogue or warrior class. And I am only willing to touch Warrior class for Dorian (head canon reasons to agonize over later.) So, Rogue or Mage. Other considerations is that I love playing Rogue, but my mouse/keyboard control sucks with my carpal tunnel so Mage is easier to physically play.

Thoughts on that welcome.

Edit Add:

HEY!

I had a bunch of random questions that don't really deserve their own threads.

  1. I've randomly seen people imply/suspect that Sera is some sort of Elven goddess soul thing.  Her Denerim Red Jenny background seems pretty legit and although Solas tried to "teach" her, I don't think it was because she was a fellow elf soul thing. so WHY
  2. In a thread, someone implied Cassandra was in DA2. did she show up in the Sebastian expansion I've never played, cuz I read that Cassandra got cut out of DA2 and I is confused.
  3. I still don't get why Varric and his lady love, Bianca didn't work out. I read the comic with the weird Fade flashback and all he says is " We tried it [eloping?] and it didn't work."
  4. Is Multiplayer something ever worth playing? Does it even have story? the only time I've ever successfully group played was in Left4Dead and every other time, people didn't like how slow I was. Or thought my strategy imperfection was terrible.

I got this message?

1] Can't answer that. I'm not a Sera fan nor well verse in dalish lore. I can only surmise it's due to the revelation on Solas's origin. Sort of like water splashing all around and gets whoever's near; if there's one, there's more in the protag's party members.

2] Cass only appear in opening and end cutscenes for DA2.

3] Dwarven politics kept Varic and Bianca apart. They can't just elope without repercussions spilling over on to their clans or they would have done it. Or they just don't relish squirreling around for the rest of their lives.

4] I've a high end rig and I can't even play the MP on the first day. I never bothered to try harder to find out what's the problem. I find ME3 MP good enough because no other game MPs have such a feature thing called Biotic Combos:D  It's a unique game feature not found anywhere. It's basically horde mode because biotics are more difficult to apply in PvP; there is no reliable defense against it.

And now for my fourth post in one sitting...

Last episode, Mara met Aria Hawke and Varric has a tiff with Cass.

In this episode, Mara tries to make amends between Varric and Cassandra, two people she admires. Then she heads to Crestwood with Cass, Blackwall, and Varric to meet up with Aria Hawke and her Warden Friend + Events.

Next time? Varric and Cass make up a bit, Adamant, and the Fade, if I'm feeling ambitious. I'm determined to get my writing caught up so I can play my other Characters. ^^
