First he came home and found Gamlen shouting at Sandal. After getting him to cool down he found out that Leandra was missing. Bodahn suggested she was with her suitor, since she had gotten a bouquet of flowers from him earlier that day. Gurner accepted that idea, his mother had been telling him that she was being courted by someone and he felt it was bloody time she started seeing other people, Malcom had been dead for seven years now and Gurner suspected his father would not want his mother to wilt away in loneliness.
Gamlen was not sold on it and left to look for her, while Gurner went to bed. The next day he met up with Hubert, who had some news on the mine. Hubert had found out that a man named Sabin had some knowledge of who was behind the raids on the mine. They brought him to Gurner's house, beat the information out of him and then a lady named Lilley killed him. (:C sorry Sabin). Then Gurner and Lilley went and tracked down the raiders. Lilley got killed during that time, along with a bunch of people from the Coterie. But the raiders were wiped out and all was well in the world.
Then Gurner took a few days to check on the mine, murder some problems over there and purchase equipment. When he returned to town he delivered some nick-nacks he found lying about to their owners. Then he went home. Leandra still wasn't back, so it was high time for Gurner to get off his butt and survey the situation.
He found Gamlen in Lowtown interrogating an urchin. After threatening the kid some bodily harm they found out that Leandra had last been spotted helping a bleeding man to get to his home. Gurner told Gamlen to go home while he and the ladies tracked his mother down. Apparently the man had left a huge trail of blood behind him, which they could track. At the first messy splatter Merrill got a very concerned look on her face, telling the group she sensed that there was blood magic afoot. Well Ship.
After tracking a trail of blood all the way to the Lowtown Foundry, Gurner became convinced that the man had to be dead already. No man bleeds that much in one day and survives. A woman might, but a man would not.
Merrill sensed demonic presence in the foundry and once they went down a not so hidden hatch in the back of the foundry, the Demons! appeared. The group destroyed the demons and once the fighting stopped Gurner spotted a lady lying on the bench. He first mistook her for his mother, but it was just Allessa, the elderly lady DuPuis had kidnapped. Aveline understood why Gurner got so ticked off at the mansion. Sadly Allessa was dead and there was a creepy note nearby.
The group went deeper into the demons lair and finally found a lovely little shrine. After killing the demons around it, they judged the shrine. Merrill voted pretty, Aveline voted it looked like Gurners mom, Isabela said it was tacky and Gurner voted "Can we please move on I want to find my mum".
And find her he did. She was sitting along with Gurners new stepdad. Sort of. He was married to a part of her. Anyways, like any little brat Gurner did not approve of this new boyfriend and murdered him. His mother approved and left the mortal plane, leaving Gurner alone with a lie. "I was always proud of you".
After a short blackout Gurner found himself at home, staring at the fireplace. Merrill had walked him home and was with Orana, heating a cup of tea for him. Gamlen broke his concentration, coming down from the study, asking what had happened. Gurner held back the desire to describe the gritty details.
"Will knowing why ease the pain?"
"No it won't. It will always seem senseless, won't it?"
Gamlen offered to go to the Gallows to tell Carver what had happened. Even if Gurner was itching to meet his little brother he accepted the offer. The exchange would hurt to deeply and tensions might run to high.
After Gamlen left Gurner went into his room. Orana scuttled into the study to put out the fire. He sat on the bed and soon Merrill appeared into the doorway. He asked her to come and she sat down besides him, holding his shaking body tightly as he wept into her bosom.

Then the whole mess with Saemus happened. Gurner was mighty angry at Petrice for killing Saemus (since he gave the +5 approval that caused Isabela to return with the book later on). But before Gurner could shank her a sneaky Qunari stole his kill. So there was nothing left to do but summon the Viscount and tell him what happened. The Viscount was understandably sad, but the dialog options did not offer to give him a quick hug and let him grieve in peace. So Gurner just left.
This time Isabela and Aveline also followed him home, but sadly just to give him some quests. First he helped Isabela out and then accompanied Aveline to talk to the broody guy at the docks. The old guy finally lost it, putting Gurner in a 5 sovereign debt with Varric. So Varric took Isabela's spot in the Murder brigade and together they carved their way through Qunari, looters, dwarves and elves, all the way to the Viscount Keep.
There they met Carver (yay!

) who was a grumpy bronto like normal. Carver was already in Meredith's party, so the reuinion didn't last long. After Gurner gave Carver a few hugs (and Carver valiantly tried to bat him off) it was time to put down the old (ari)Shoker.
Despite the Arishok calling Gurner a basalit-an Gurner did accept a one on one duel with him. Because the Arishok is a big, ugly cheater :C.
But since Gurner refused to act honorably he could not claim the treasure between the Arishok's legs for himself at the end of the battle.
Never the less, after frying the Arishok with lightning and fire, Gurner became the Champion of Kirkwall. Yay.
