Finished the main story in Descent (ugh, the guardian must have knocked me off the platform at least a bajillion times <_<). Now I can go back with just my team to find all the nooks and crannies, and continue the banter from where it left off. I've got more gears and mugs to find, plus I need to pick up the nug-summoning cheese wheel of judgment. :P  I think this is the first time I never backtracked at all until the mission is done. Usually I head back to the main camp to sell stuff and do the operations once they're available, but this time I just planted the flags and kept going down. :D Bolters are still OP.

Huh. Now that I understand how banter works down there, I realize I missed hours of opportunity to get Iron Bull and Dorian knocking boots. Because regular banter doesn't resume till it's done.

I realized that there is a lot to do in the Frostback Basin, so I'm back to just IB me and Dorian to try to see if they finally hook up  :P  I know I'd said I'd given up.

I like the Augur! I'm glad I brought Cole when I met him.

Edit Add:

Got the feels a bit when I listened to the Telana Spirit. Made Mara question if she'd ever die for Thom.   She'd certainly try to protect him in battle and wants him to live, but to just lay down and die waiting for him to return from battle? No. My fem city elf would have died for Alistair if the Dark Ritual hadn't been offered.

The journey of Warden Drako Amell thus far,

The tale continues,

Word was received from the city. The Darkspawn have attacked in force. The Architect or the mother, I can't say. No time to investigate. I'm taking Sigrun, Anders and Justice to the city immediately. The rest of my forces will gather and join the battle when they are at full force. The new armor and weapons are ready. I've had most of Keep's staff all moved inside the reinforced walls until the Darkspawn are beaten back into the deep roads. A messenger has been sent to the Couslands just in case we can't hold the city. We have to find the source of this...

... We arrive at Amaranthine shortly after night fall. The city is on fire. The city guard have the beasts contained for the moment, but they'll break free eventually. Two choices, level the city with artillery OR go in and purge the Darkspawn.

Just as we are about to enter, another Emissary approached from the rear... Alone. It claimed to be there, not to fight, but to warn us. The Architect sent it to warn us that the attack on the city was only a faint. The true bulk of the Mother's forces were sent after the Vigil itself. The Emissary babbled on for a moment. It wanted me to leave the city and return to the Vigil. Captain Garevel agreed... I did not. The vigil is in a far superior state than when the Darkspawn last attacked. With the increased fortifications and armaments  the Darkspawn will be in for a drastically different outcome. I order that the Emissary be bound and interrogated while I lead a team into the city...

...We fought our way through the streets leaving three man teams of city guards in our wake to hold the ground once it was won. I lost count of how many of the fiends we struck down, but we eventually found their source. They were coming in from the smugglers tunnels. It took all night, but we beat back the Darkspawn. The City is damaged, but it still stands. Many people died, but many more yet live. No time to celebrate though. The Emissary died, but not before giving up what it knew of the mothers location.

I have split the remaining city forces still standing. Half are going to secure the city and the other half will be sent with Garevel back to the Vigil. I and my team will be going directly after the Mother. With her forces out attacking the Arling, Her defenses will never be as weak. I must strike at her NOW!... I want to go back and help my people, but...  I can't allow this opportunity to pass... It may be the only chance we get...

...We reach the Mother's strong hold. A ruin hidden in the mountains  The outside seems to be a Dragon bone yard. The area crawls with Genlocks, hurlocks, and those creepy "children"... the way the ground in trembling, there are Ogres inside too. No time to rest from the march. Their numbers are scattered. We have to make the push...

...The Architect shows himself once we are inside. He offers a partnership in attacking the Mother. He begins what I assume was a well laid out sales pitch. All I hear is a mad man spouting out nonsense. He created the chaos we now find ourselves in. Intentional or not, he is the cause and he MUST BE STOPPED!! Sigrun is the first to agree. A fierce battle erupts. The Architect's magic is powerful, but far from invincible. We struck him down, but it drained some desperately needed potions. We may not make it out of here... I ask Justice for his sword and cleanly remove the Architect's head from it's neck and burn the corpse and it's tainted companion. A Dwarf who will not be named. She was a Warden once, now just a dead disgrace best forgotten... no sign of Velanna's sister. Something for another day. For now, the mother awaits... The stench... That distinctive Brood Mother foulness... She's going to be a big one...

...Tower after tower and level after level, we finally find this Mother... I've seen some ugly Brood Mothers before, but this monstrosity is beyond description. It's horrid appearance is matched only by it's demented mind. The final battle begins. I use every spell I know, every potion I have left, and hacked off more tentacles than I care to remember, but we did it.  She unleashed a maelstrom of magic and waves atop waves of Darkspawn against us. Never the less... she is dead. I still stand! The remaining Darkspawn flee back into the deeps. It's over... for  now... As we are leaving, I feel my ring warm again... There is something here... Something old... hidden... powerful... What I do not know, but I am in no state to go exploring. Sigrun took the worst of it though. I think she would be happy to die here, but I came into this pit in a team of four and I aim to leave the same way. My mana is drained, no lyrium left, but I hear the gurgling moans of an Alpha Hurlock not far off. It is near death, but it still holds enough life to be of use... I rip out what power I can from the beast and use it's essences to heal some of the wounds we sustained in the assault. Not enough for a full recovery, but enough to see tomorrow. Once we are no longer falling apart, we make a forced march back to the keep...

...Andraste's great flaming ass! The walls held. The grounds are littered with the bodies of fallen Darkspawn. The Vigil held. There were many loses. There will be many fires tonight. Velanna is missing. Oghren is near death, but the stubborn old fool refuses to die. He held off two Ogres .. by himself... Wynne stands over him healing what she can and I hear her whisper to him "You are a fool... a brave fool..."

There will be much work needed to recover from all the damage. My search for Morrigan seems to keep getting pushed off. I twist my ring around my finger as I look out over the horizon and think "One day, witch... One day, I will find you." then the ring warms and a familiar voice fills my mind "One day, my love. But not today."

...My Witch Hunt begins soon...

Poor Gwenyn has been twiddling her toes for a couple of weeks, waiting for me to get back to her. Coryfish is no more, but first they had to travel back to the Frostback Basin for some important resource gathering (finishing Solas and Iron Bull's chess match  ).

Gwen ended up with Cass as Divine. I wasn't sure who it would be, which normally means Viv, so I'm happy with that.  :D

Spoiler

Trespasser next. It should be entertaining as she's romancing Cullen and Iron Bull and Dorian are an item. At the party Dorian implied that he was staying on for the moment partly because of Bull, which was a nice touch.

Nope, you can still get them to hook up. You just can't confirm it with them and you miss some cuddly dialog at the final party.

Did it with Kaliesa, who took Sera, Dorian and Iron Bull on a long picnic near the surface thaig in the Hissing Wastes.

I got them to hook up in the Frostback Basin as banter fires very regularly there. Good luck.

I thought so too, as Sera seemed to be saying a lot; but that was just in the Bear Hold when I was chatting with NPCs and their various events. The minute I left, they said nothing a solid hour, even after I cleared all my codex entries and quest log (which I'd heard could sometimes clear up the banter bug.)

So then because a Rift on the river was totally kicking my butt, I add Thom back in and then watched as he talked to Dorian about bad alcohol at Skyhold. I was like ARRRRRRGGGGHHH

I once heard of someone just literally letting their characters in game just stand there for like 10+ hours to get them together. But I only have one monitor and actually want to hear them get together.

AW MAN guys. Aw man. Jaws of Hakkon has gotten my feels going. This is all just so horrible.

Elven Quiz I was already spoiled on. But the whole, save Orlais loyalty and the fact the Elves lost the Dales because he wasn't there to rally them? Like! Tragedy! And I'm not even an elfy elf lover! And then Sera said, "Pride Cookies all over again." And I was like, damn, Sera. You nailed it.

I guess, in a way it mimics that if the Quiz disappears before closing the breach, then the future is destroyed in "In Hushed Whispers" Quest.

Still...., aw man. It almost would have been better if he hadn't locked the Dragon up and they'd just taken their chances with two dragons.

HOW HAS NO ONE TALKED ABOUT THIS DLC? Everyone's so intrigued by the stupid poorly done Titan reveal but this? This DLC is just sad stuff. I guess it's a DLC pointed backwards through history rather than forwards to the new game but still. Better than Descent by a long shot.

I guess I'm gonna go kill an Abomination Dragon now.

Edit Add:

That dragon fight wasn't too difficult. Reminded me of the Ice Dragon in Emprius de Lion..

Then I go to the War Tables for the Assuage Ameridan's Heirs. I read what everyone would do. Leliana was a disappointing middle ground, I kind of Nodded at what Cullen would do, then I read Jose's. What?!! HELL NO, I am not buying off the Dalish to make some noble line of pricks happy, thanks. Can't even believe Jose suggested it.

Time to auto complete collection of Elfroot and various cloth. Maybe even kill one more dragon. Then time for trespasser.

I burned through Trespasser, which I hadn't played except once months ago. I was heading in to Keep the Inquisition and 50/50 on redeeming Solas. My thoughts/feels were that Mara grew up a lot becoming it's leader, and then really matured over those two years. The Inquisition became her baby of a sort, and really part of her identity. But man, I'd forgotten how bad the spy situation was. At first she was saying to herself, it's still redeemable! I mean, she saved the Wardens and Thom, so this would kinda go along with the trend of "I believe in goodness!" But then she chided herself a bit; the inquistion wasn't a person or an organization needed to keep the Blight and darkspawn at bay.  So, I leaned heavy enough towards disbanding, but I said, "Thank you to those who serve" cuz I like the look the Quiz shares with Josie.

Decided Mara and Solas weren't close enough for that whole "overlooking you being kinda crazy" bit, so "stop him by any means" was chosen. Which felt kinda wrong to me as a player, because I remember my first Mage gal being like super best buds in that game and so that feeling is there for me, but not for Mara. Mara and Dorian were the best buds, followed by Cass, Sera, and Varric.

But then Viv smashed my Bright Hand Mages into being the College of Enchanters "vying for power"; I felt like I forced Cullen into starting a Templar Retirement Home; and I felt like I was leaving Cass and Dorian without a strong political ally... Good things were Sera and I got to be Red Jenny's together, and that picture totally had the Quiz with a crossbow arm, which works for my rogue.

So, I'll probably reload, choose not to disband, see if I like those slides better, and decide which is the true ending for Mara.

I know. Critical life decisions here.  :P

Finished up Emerald Graves. Closed the rest of the rifts and unlocked the "Fear" codex, which I think means one of the rifts spawned a fear demon. But if it did, I never saw it, so, yay for OP squad. B) Didn't meet up with Taven before getting the WT mission for Din'an Hanin, so he and his group were already dead when Andreia got there. She gave the letter about Red Crossing to Keeper Hawen, since it was his First who instigated the search. Maybe if she'd gotten there sooner but....ah well. At least the Venatori won't get anything out of it. They were all over that place looking for....something. Andreia was fairly certain they would have been disappointed with the "treasure" locked away there anyway. Better for her to take it than for them to destroy it out of frustration.

So, two zones to go (Emprise and Wastes) but next up (after inventory duty again) will be Here Lies the Abyss. Cullen should have the battle plan drawn up by now, and Josie's contacts were working on getting replacement trebuchets for a siege. All that should be left to do is to get everyone to Adamant.

I redid the ending. I did the Angry Keep the Inquisition option. Sometimes Mara can be a sly Noble, but mostly she is bad at it since she has rejected Nobility for longer than she's embraced it.

  • Apparently Viv smashes the Bright Hand either way. Geez, does she come out of nowhere if you never recruit her? Or did I not get enough points in some invisible category?
  • Cullen instead used his closer ties to the Chantry to improve health/retirement benefits to ALL Templars. Which I think is way better that just a Retirement Home for those who happen to hear about him. The help is spread through more people.
  • Cass and Dorian seem to be good either version, but I feel they have more support (in my head) with a powerful honor guard to call on in tight situations.
  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY I get to be a Red Jenny having fun with Sera no matter what! Guess that was dependent on whether I said yes to the offer, but I wondered if it was further contingent on not being tied to the Inquisition. I am glad it was not. Speaking of, wow, not only is Sera a better spymaster than Leliana (she noticed something was up the minute we arrived), she matured in so many important ways come Trespasser that I was like WOW. Let go of her hate of the Elves. Wonderful.
  • And apparently when my Quiz Mara visits prisons with Thom Rainier to redeem the nonredeemable (Cuz that is Mara through and through) she does a few favors for Red Jenny while she's at it.  ;)

SO, I'm sticking with the Honor Guard Option. I feel Mara could have gone either way, and I like her being Cass Honor Guard cuz Cass is awesome.

Trespasser has the best music.

Also, I feel a bit empty. I have all of Mara to write up. I'm determined to do this at least the once, I think it may be too much for future playthroughs. I will probably change my narrative style to that of Bardox9. It had the emotional flavor I'm shooting for without the blow by blow I seem to be committed to that takes, like, forever. HAha. Review my screen shots, find the scene on youtube, decide which bits are important, decide what my Quiz thought about in reaction to every bit of dialogue.... It's really made me see a lot of details in the scenes I didn't see before, that's for certain. So, it's possible I should do at least one pllaythrough of each Dragon Age game at least once that way...

The journey of Warden Drako Amell thus far,

The tale continues,

Lothering... Or NEW Lothering I should say. Why am I in the arm pit of Ferelden again? Queen Anora asked me to come. The rebuilding effort here is nearing completion and she thought a visit from the Hero of Ferelden would do the people good. How, I have no idea, but I stopped trying to figure out that woman a long time ago. I've had my own rebuilding efforts to deal with. The Vigil is almost fully repaired, Amaranthine still has a year of work left at least... I can't help but notice that Alistair is not here... He's still upset with me over Loghain.

While touring the town I over heard a pair of hunters talking about a strange shack they saw on their last hunt... and a woman... The chance is remote, but... Would she have really gone back there?...I could not resist. I speak with Anora, make a good hype speech about Varel's leadership skills in handling the Arling, and take off for the wilds. She probably won't be there and I will be back in a couple days anyway, but I am a man haunted by those two most terrible words... what if... what... if...

...The Korcari Wilds... Seems like a life time ago that I first found myself here. Even years later, there are still a few Darkspawn wandering about. At least none of them are talking... A quick fire ball or stone fist and the world is made a little better. I'm not alone. I have (DA:A dog) Ajax with me. One of (DA:O dog) BoJack's brood. He's a good pup... I'm taken back when we get where we're going. I pause a moment... The high dragon form of Flemeth is gone. Either the Chasind picked it clean and took the bones or Flemeth really is immortal.

As we enter the hut, I hear someone moving about... not who I was expecting. A Dalish elf girl. Calls herself Ariane. Looks to be one of their rangers. She babbled on for a while, I wasn't really paying attention anymore. I had almost lost hope when she mentioned that she was hear looking for a woman called Morrigan. That woke me up. Seems Morrigan paid a visit to a Dalish clan and took something that didn't belong to her. What little she had to go on was something called an "Eluvian". I remember reading something about those once. A mystical device of the ancient elves... BAH... We'll have to go to the Circle...

...We made quick time in reaching the tower. Irving and Greagoir were away on Circle Business. Sandel was there... Why, I have no idea. He did enchant something for me though. A dagger. I was going to just sell it off, but it put a smile on his face. Ariane and I proceed into the main library to look for information on the Eluvian's. Takes some digging, the filing system has been changed. Everything is so scattered... might be a practical joke the mages are subtly playing on the apprentices... I remember them changing things around now and then for no other reason than to annoy us.

We eventually find what we are looking for. A mage came up to us, apparently upset at how we were handling the books. I almost punched this a$s clown in the face, I know how to handle a tomb you pompous... *sigh*... nostalgia over... He wasn't completely useless though. Ariane said she might know where a smashed Eluvian might be. Finn, a$s clown, went off on a rant about the shards of one Eluvian could be used to find others which set us off on a tour of the basement. Another place filled with bad memories for me.

The wards have not been maintained properly down here. The veil is weakening and spirits are passing through. Even the Guardians are acting up. Before we can continue our search for information, we must attend to this mess before something more... exciting comes through...

...After a night of ghost busting, we finally get the information we need from one of the relics down here. I was hoping that would be the end of my dealings with this Finn, but between his complaints about dirt on his shoes he did mumble some things that show he knows far more about the Eluvians than I and I don't have time to sit and study the tomb in detail. I reluctantly agree to take him with us... I slip the tomb into my pack... I'll read more about these Eluvians as we go. Morrigan wants one of these things for a reason and I want to know what that reason. I love her she has a tendency to omit important information on occasion... That's assuming we find her of course.

We are heading for the site of this broken Eluvian in the morning. I am not spending another night in this Tower... I'll get us some rooms at the Spoiled Princess. Too many Templars in here... Hope the drinks have gotten better...

My first CC attempt at Belinda, QF dagger merc.

Spoiler

Cutscene look is good, but I'm not happy with her jaw line at all in game view. Also, her eyes came out way too violet, just wanted a hint. Everything else I'm pretty happy with. Too bad I can't use the BE to tweak, too many mods in play. So, I'll start over on Belinda 2.0 tomorrow. I screenshotted all the important slider settings.

I went way mod happy in this run. All my favorite Inner Circle pals got makeovers. Can't wait to see what they look like.

And here's another plug for the Alternate Loading Screen mod. Shame it doesn't have more downloads or endorsements. It's like DAI launch day all over again for me, everything looks new!

Can't use BE with Mods? Omg, I didn't know. But I changed Mara's hair twice as part as my head cannon, first to be more "cass is so cool, stop being vain about scar" and second to show passage of time with Trespasser!

Regarding your Fem Qunari, the Cutscene it doesn't look too much, but it does look a bit much in her wide eyed in game look, I agree.

--------------------

Today I read the forum and thought about various future characters I want to play. Last night I fiddled with making a male Quiz for the first time, knowing I would probably scrap it. I was wanting to make a man awesome enough for Dorian.  I was tickled to find out that one could put make up on a man in DAI, I was super frustrated I couldn't in Origins. So, now I'm determined to make an awesome man with at least epic eyeliner. Also SO MANY BEARD OPTIONS but the chicks and the guys get the same 10 Hair cuts and 10 bald options?

I think the grey tinged black makes the eyebrows weird, maybe a different skin complexion but overall not bad for the first male human I've ever made in a Dragon Age Game. But good enough for Dorian? As leader of Stone Bear Hold said about the friendliness of their Hold Beast; "Ennnnnnnnnnnn"

2nd try

Can't use BE with Mods? Omg, I didn't know. But I changed Mara's hair twice as part as my head cannon, first to be more "cass is so cool, stop being vain about scar" and second to show passage of time with Trespasser!

Only certain mods, like some hair replacers and complexion replacers. Unfortunately, I used a lot of mods that said "freezes the BE and DLCs" on the label, so I only have myself to blame.

Wait, so that means you can't play DLCs either? o_O
