Popped in to visit the Undercroft to craft some gear last night, and then I realized that what I was wearing is about as good as it's going to get because I apparently have no masterwork T3 light armor schematics. So I tried checking of my staff schematics to maybe make a new staff...and I had no masterwork T3 staff schematics either. I ended up going "screw it, I'm a KE - I don't need no stinking badge...I mean staff at this point!" I plan on beating Cory down later after I finish catching up on my reading. My mage is at least hopeful that the magical Like fairy will show up to refill my Likes sometime soon so that I can like stuff in here.
I know that struggle!

I got my Specialization at level 22. How about that? You heard the phrase? How bout them Cowboys?
My female dwarf is now a Champion. Not that she wasn't one before.
I also finally made it to level 23. I have about 50% of the Emerald Graves to explore, one more door left to open in the Temple in Forbidden Oasis before facing the Pride demon. I still have to go to the Arbor wilds with Morrigan.
I have most of the collectibles. So I will get the rest of those as well.

I guess I really should start paying attention to tactics, heh. That's the curse of casual difficulty, though. Leaving all those settings on default for evetybody doesn't really ever come back to bite you in the ass.One thing I've done with Bull is to teach him War Cry and set it to preferred to help him build up guard and a couple Vanguard perks when he's hacking away at the enemy. It works wonders.

Oh yeah. They can be pretty terrible as far as AI is concerned. I really miss the tactic slots. But yeah... he dishes out a ton of damage but doesn't have a lot of health so I found that to be a significant way to mitigate that, as well as equipping weapons and armor that raise guard on hit. I don't think I ever relied on tactics as hard as I did on my first NM playthrough. I'd already beaten it on Hard so getting used to the difficulty change wasn't much of an issue for me.

Yup, I'll have to check that out when I get home later... Of course, I haven't recruited Bull yet, but I can still have a look at it all. Nope, Mike, not on NM yet. Still just a casual kinda guy. But this is my first real attempt at melee'ing -- doomed first rogue notwithstanding -- and while the battles are kinda easy right now, I'm finding that I really have to be more attentive even on casual since I'm right in the middle of the action now, pounding away on dem Templar shields.I guess you're playing on nightmare? No worries
I'm not gonna wait as long for NM as I did to play ME3 on insanity, but I don't want my first warrior run to be my first NM run too; I think I'd probably put my keyboard through my monitor in frustration at some point. Will probably play a mage for NM. Maybe. Want to at least finish Dofni's tale before ruling out a NM warrior.
A knight enchanter would be great for NM. They're so OP.

Tactics are kind of nerfed in DAI unfortunately, but I love the game anyway. Just about done with my mage Lavellan on hard (Cullen romance, and boy was it difficult not to have her chase Solas - although Cullen is very sweet). Planning my third playthrough on NM with my crazy Cadash archer - probably Iron Bull romance. Tac cam really helps out at harder difficulties - although I haven't seen anything that resembles the original BG on normal (there was one bandit camp and a bunch of wyverns that always gave me trouble).
But, back to what Adahsulahn is up to: the cool night air and glorious moon create a mysterious wonderland in the hissing wastes. Although she shelters in one of the many inquisition camps during the oppressive heat of the day, moonrise is a signal to wake Iron Bull, Dorian and Solas and explore the sand carved mysteries. The voices from the Well are becoming clearer with each evening's excursion into this deadly, shadowed desert and intriguing bits of dwarven history keep her from dwelling on the future battle with Corypheus.

They stopped by the Approach with Cole and Solas to take on the Abyssal. Bull told Alcina she was the best as the beast flew in for the fight. It took great restraint not to climb Bull right then and give him a kiss.
After the Abyssal was defeated and the researcher took off for Skyhold, they decided to see the greenery of the Emerald Graves with Cole and Dorian. Bull was practically giddy as they approached the Mistral. The beast was a sight to see indeed. The Champion and her Reaver were a great duo as she garnered the dragon's attention and bore the brunt of its attacks while he dished out the punishment.
After all the dragon hunting, Alcina decided to end the day tackling some bad guys for Cassandra & Dorian and acquiring a snowy wyvern heart for Vivienne. Once they finally returned to Skyhold, she met her favorite Qunari in their little corner and stole all the kisses she could handle from him.

Taking a quick break to see if I can get my game to fix itself. For some reason, I can't toggle walk to off. I hadn't even turned it on, either! I just fast-traveled and poof! Walking only. ![]()
Nery has decided she hates the Avvar. Not only did they kidnap her soldiers, but they held them captive in the wettest, dankest, smelliest, undeadliest place possible, aka the Fallow Mire. The good news is, she found her soldiers and they were all ok, though some were injured. And, she took out some punk chieftain's son who thought it would be fun to challenge her to a duel. Well, that didn't go so well for him. They located some more Warden relics for Blackwall and, though he seemed to be happy about it, he wasn't any more talkative back at Haven than he was before. Maybe he didn't get the hint? Well, Nery would just have to see if she could be a little more direct next time.
After selling off extra equipment and upgrading as needed, Nery took her group back to the Hinterlands to clear up the last few missions before deciding on an ally to help with the Breach. They had barely made it to camp before they were accosted by not 1, not 2, but 3 large bears, all just outside the camp perimeter. Seriously, why even post guards if they're gonna let this happen? Anyway, they took them out and....ooh, look, shiny bear claws! Those might come in handy if she could find just the right weapon to use them in.
Then they were off to the merc fortress in the south that they'd been hearing rumors about. The place was pretty large, but not too well guarded. They were able to get to the heart of the place rather quickly and take out the merc leader. They were apparently running some scam with the Carta. Nery, being familiar with all things Carta-related, didn't understand why they would be looking to outsiders for help. Something seemed off in the operation. Luckily, a letter from the Carta faction included a map and directions to their main base, a bit further north. She was definitely interested in checking that out, wondering if she would be able to knock some sense into her (former) fellow gang members. Once they had picked the place clean, they headed to the Crossroads to dump all the extra loot the bandits had gathered. There was more left behind....their packs just weren't big enough to carry it all, especially with that giant mosaic tile taking up one bag all by itself. Nery let Blackwall carry that one since it was almost as big as she was.

I'm sure others have answered already but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway.
Melee combat definitely takes a while to get used to. My first game was dual daggers and half the time early on I was slashing thin air.
I really missed (still do) the auto-attack in normal play; here it is only available while using tac-cam.
I'm now playing S/S and once I got some decent special moves unlocked, combat became a bit easier. I use Grappling Chain a lot, to bring enemies (especially ranged ones) to me instead of having to chase them down. There are also some abilities that auto-move you toward an enemy, like Lunge and Slash (Blackwall has that but I don't yet). I find I'm also using pause a lot more to set up attacks; I put up Shield Wall and start heading towards baddies, while I set up the ranged members for a first salvo. I probably wouldn't worry about doing that if I was playing on casual but it seems to really help on hard difficulty. I need all the help I can get!
As for which style, I prefer S/S for higher defense, although 2H in DA2 was super fun. Since Bull is such a glass cannon, I'm sorta leery of 2H in DAI. Also, the Breach reflects nicely in your shield if you are facing away from it.
Hand up for also slashing at thin air and those horrible sound effects that tell you you are slashing at thin air. I keep my finger on the walk button now while I am fighting melee. Just keeps you in there. ![]()

Uh oh.
My plan to romance Blackwall in this PT has just taken a serious blow. Crippling, perhaps? Near-fatal? Hmm...
Dofni has just returned to Haven for the first time since venturing into the Hinterlands. She has much to do. Loot to sell, upgrades to craft, armor and weapons to modify, potions to upgrade, research items to turn in.... companions to get to know better. Ulp. Went to the blacksmith first, since he was nearby. Crafted a new pommel for her sword, and some new mail arms for her defender coat. Sold all her loot. She's amassing a small fortune.
So, after the blacksmith, Dofni made her way to headquarters to give Minaeve something to do. (note to self: rescue Minaeve this time). Outside, her new advisor, the former knight-captain, was quelling a potential uprising between the mages and templars. The Chancellor was meddling of course, but Cullen handled them all with relative ease. 'Pity he's so tall,' thought Dofni with a shrug. She went inside, passed right by the newly-rescued Mother Giselle, and left-turned to drop those items off for Minaeve.
As the elf practically drooled over the weapon fragments and wisp essences and Maker knows what else, Dofni heard a polite, seemingly innocuous, "oh, hello mistress Cadash" from over her shoulder.
Turning to see who addressed her, Dofni saw another of her new advisors, seated at a large desk, covered with books and papers, looking at her and smiling. Ah yes, Josephine. They had a nice chat. Josephine wanted to know all about her allegedly criminal past and Carta connections, and whether she'd ever been to Orzammar. Dofni claimed she'd been there hundreds of times, suddenly wanting to impress the young woman. And then this happened:
Oh my.
What shall I do? Not only condemn Blackwall to a life of loneliness, with no little woman -- no pun intended -- to warm his bed at night, but also steal away the only other woman he could ever love? or should I stay with the plan, and save Josie for another time? Sigh. I haven't picked an option yet. I suppose I could flirt now, and decide at a later time. My Lavellan did a lot of that, heh.
EDIT: Update. Dofni took a chance. She flirted. What the hell. She's stared death in the face countless times and she has never flinched once. Not once. Smootly, she asked Josephine, "You're not interested in a dashing dwarven rogue who lived on the edge of danger?"
To which Josie replied, in a totally-not-taking-the-bait kinda way, "A dashing rogue? Hmm..."
When Dofni inquired about the "hmmm..." part, Josie then said, "Something something your past blah blah. I must ask Varric to draft something more interesting."
Every single stab, rend, tear, slice, gash, burn, or bruise Dofni ever suffered in her life never hurt as much as that icy cold dagger to the heart. I think I better get to Val Royeaux soon so I can recruit Blackwall asap.

With melee characters, you move in the direction you want to attack. It's that simple, really. Your character will sometimes nearly teleport a few meters to its target if you do so. If you just hit the attack button without direction, your character attacks without direction, for the most.
Oh and in other news: I play my tank without +x guard on hit masterworks now. Having a 10% proc on Unbowed on your weapon is good enough. More than good enough. Combined with a 10% to proc Mind Blast and it's just insane
Now all I need is some insane proc on my shie;d (10% hidden blades for 4 or 5 hits, 10% Walking Fortress, something like that) and I might just be the most beastly templar ever to have roamed Thedas
