Now when I search, the minimap tells me where to look. This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than it was. Thank you thank you thank you!
One of my 3 main gripes checked off the list.
Mucho appreciado!

Now if only they would reduce the re spawn rate on crafting nodes...
I actually hate the searching. Why not the game auto highlight for me without me having to search?
Probably so that we're not walking through a world of neon-yellow outlines. The game is rather chock-full of items and if they were lit up all the time, it would become rather distracting.

It will ruin the immersion. I don't want loots & highlights everywhere on my screen ruining the immersion. It's kinda okay in over the top or isometric games though.

The searching is indeed nice and does, perhaps, make it for the mega shiny hair bug introduced with the patch. I'm surprised my Inquisitor does not blind the other characters.
The immersion is already ruined, though... By having to keep clicking the search key with every few steps, waiting for that dinging noise to go off and the clickable chest or plant or sack or what-have-you to highlight. If someone wants the searchable items to be highlighted for them, as a step that makes their gaming lives easier, Bioware should make it a gameplay option so a discerning player can choose it in their own game.
I would LOVE it if, as my character approached clickable loot chests, sacks, and quest objects, that the items would automatically highlight for me... not by outline, but as a glimmer or a "sparkle" animation... something non-obtrusive but obvious to a player.
...I bloody hate the search key. Is the inquisitor part bat? A dolphin? Because we apparently have echo-location as a natural talent.
I personally would prefer if the inquisition had a team to hunter/gather resources for me so I didn't have to ping every damn where. Just let me "clear" an area and then send in teams to harvest nodes..
I am fine with the "ping" mechanic for finding chests and loot drops.. but i think its a bit much for crafting nodes.

According to the "Announcement" post at the top of the "DAK (No Save Game Importing)" thread, there's a workaround for this, pending a "hotfix" for it. See Conal's post here. ![]()
While I love exploring and snagging stuff from landscape, honestly, that sonar ping bullshit can suck my non-existent dick.
Well, its better than it was at least.
But still hate the ping mechanic.
Also loot/herbs etc could still be more visible, add say a sparkle effect around them.
I assume this is going to make collecting my last few mosaic pieces a bit easier.
The search function gives me migraines (ping ping ping ping) so I honestly hope they get rid of it entirely and have an option to highlight various loot automatically.
Also a loot hotkey.
I don't like the ping. I didn't like it before, and I actually like it less now.
I would muxh prefer a held button (like NWN, DAO, and DA2), and I'd like a line of sight requirement (which we would effectively have without the radar and the audio cue).
Pinging was a bad idea. The old way was better.

Right. I'll admit I tended to keep the search button held down all the time in the earlier games (I took it as read that my character had searched the area, without me actually having to search the area). The ping makes searching too interactive. You mean you didn't want to roleplay a character who had a gift for echolocation?
They may have fixed searching, but as a result they broke me.
Before I'd hear the ping and think "Bleh, I'll never be able to find it. I'll just ignore it and move on."
Now, I hear the ping, I see where it's coming from, and I MUST GATHER IT. My progression in the game as slowed to a crawl, my companions are ready to mutiny as I stop every six paces to pick every elfroot, mine every iron, find every ladder.

i like the fact that it is now highlighted on the minimap! it is cool!

I am conflicted. When playing Mass Effect 2 and 3 I REALLY missed finding and picking up random loot. Then I play DAI, and now all the loot just laying around seems so dumb!
now if it just auto-looted everything within the radar pinged...or at least my companions would split up and loot the items

You could just have a toggle that highlight when you want, and which you can disable at will ?
This revolutionary idea was already implemented in... BG1. Twenty years ago, by the same developpers.
