Did the peeps that felt planet scanning in ME2 was great bring it over to DA:I?

Tons of time wasted scanning for very little reward in the game and pissing off gamers...  And you thought the same sort of scanning system it the whole DA:I universe would make gamers happy?

What is it?  Was this a major shareholders relative with OCD idea?

I think they tried to copy the scanning tool in Deadspace, there the robot made it loads better for folks that don't want to chase down loot.  The ESO scan tool is player modifiable, doubt it was considered.  However, the deadspace tool had a fixed background and here the foliage or lack there of make it difficult to see in many cases, they could have used a consult on that issue.  And why they felt the need to get "ping" happy is beyond me or maybe they are unaware of passive scanning?  There are a lot of OCD issues in the game -they should try and minimize these.

But how else would you make the game 120 hours long if not for T.A.C.O.-driven sidequests needed for that last achievement?

It feels more like driving the mako around planets a-la Mass Effect to me.

I don't mind the gathering and stuff though. I don't do all of them, just the ones I feel are most important.

You guys are comparing planet scanning to pressing a button that pings for less than 1 second and then you return to whatever the **** you want to do...you guys will literally find anything, and anyway to complain about this game.

implying the DA:I scanning "FEATURE" is at all functioning in a logical and efficient manner

we guys will complain about what we complain about, and you will complain about us complaining! which of us is better i wonder?

Frankly, I'm just glad that after scanning 3-4 times, I don't hear a loud "BWO-O-O-O-O-O-OM-M-M-M-M-M" and have to start running from the Reapers in and out of the map just to find everything.

LOL

At least, it reminds me a lot more of the ME3 scanning than the ME2 planet scanning. ;)

+1 It's much closer to the ME3 scanner, which was more fun than the ME2 one. And this one is more fun because you do the stuff while walking around the landscapes, which are very well done (at least they look great in the PS4). Not everything has to be combat and romance scenes. Some relaxed exploration every now and then is ok IMO.

I liked planet fondling. It was soothing.

Don't have strong opinions on DAI pinging, though the highlighting not showing up in bright environments is a downer.

System pinging in ME3 can die in a fire.

You've got dragons for that, innit?

But you can still be eaten by a bear while collecting the loot.

I sort of enjoyed the Mako driving in ME1 (( actually liked everything about ME1 except the 150 limit ) which was and easy fix in the INI file.) Also disliked the Fov, but again that was and easy fix in the INI.

But I find spamming the Search button in DAI really over kill, I mean it worked pretty good in Witcher, but here it just promotes FPS hit's and monotonous and repeditive BS.

Not to mention having to combine it with holding a torch, and dropping back and forth from the map to the Main view, making sure you have your marker where you want it, and that you're not going the wrong direction when you have to detour around a mountain.

The MAKO was easily the thing that "made" Mass Effect for me, as it made you feel you were actually in a vast and underexplored universe full of hidden secrets and dangers, a feeling that Mass Effect 2's thoroughly stage-play location-direction demolishes absolutely (note how it skips elevator rides, replaces airlocks with teleporting you from place to place and generally removes the feeling of "continuity" in your relocations which people praised for being in videogames as far back as the very first Doom).

In that respect, I hope that Mass Effect 4 will take DAI's open-world experimentation to heart with its MAKO reimplementation.

Yes, that was a brilliant stupidity. I guess they did not watch any of the Star Trek episodes, where Spok would scan the planet for minerals, vegetables or life signs...

And here I thought I was the only one who felt that way (about the search scanner).

Re: the Mako. I loved it! :D <3  I hated the terrain, but I loved the Mako (still do) and eventually, I loved to tease the 'poor old' thresher maws lol

That music was pretty neat. I spent a lot of time on that screen for no good reason.

at least when planet scanning you get an indicator that points to the core of the dense deposits... and you can hold the button to scan continuously, not just ping and not get an indicator showing which direction the hits are in

But the ping does show you where to go. Even if it doesnt show if it's up or down.

only the hidden items have the indicator, and you still need to spam the ping to home in on said items and then reveal them even when you're standing ontop of them... it's an asinine system, how could they think this was better than the old tab to highlight system?

Which is infuriating as heck in its own right, because until I found that first bottle, the bottle indicators were driving me NUTS.

well the rest of the stuff you dont need the search thing for if you actually look around.

that's besides the point, some of them are far too hard to spot even when pinged because they are obscured by the landscape in some way or the other, and they don't highlight for as long as they should, forcing you to spam V constantly while you yourself act as a vague indicator that often takes multiple attempts to get the direction of the pinged item correct

this should not have been implemented, it's beyond a joke

I was talking about chest loot.

you're all over the place... first you imply all items/objects have directional indicators when you ping, then you say "the rest of the stuff" doesn't need the ping, you then say you were talking about chest loot (or simply chests which are indeed very easy to see as they are huge)

it helps to be concise, can you do that for me? especially regarding such a touchy subject
