They're probably random drops - most things are. I never found either of them, unfortunately.

I can't remember exactly where I picked it up from, but it was late in the game (not before final quests, but after all areas are unlocked) and I believe I was in the process of hunting down the dragons when I did.

 

Wouldn't want to promise it dropped from one of them, but that's the best I can do, sorry!

If you take the Rare Stocks Connections perk the Hissing Wastes merchant will start stocking Superior tier 3 armour schematics. It only stocks one at a time, and I don't know when they refresh. This is how I got Superior Battlemaster Armour.

 

Otherwise you can try to farm schematics from chests. If you leave at least one item in a chest or container, if you exit and re-enter the zone it's in it's loot will reset. Sometimes it'll have a shematic.

I found one at the merchant in the hissing waste on two separate playthroughs.

I also did not unlock the rare stocks perk in my second playthrough, although I was a rouge.

Hissing Waste was a Gold Mine for my rouge character in both playthroughs. There is also a masterwork dual blade dagger to be found and a bunch of unique accessories that help a great deal within the hissing wastes.

How often do the rare schematics spawn?

 

I have exited and returned like 10 times and only got a helm schematic called the overlord helm.  Any trick to it? running back to the store from the canyon camp each time is getting really boring

I myself have never had it spawn anything new to my knowledge. Are you buying the schematics? Perhaps, I honestly do not know.

The Armor was there on my first encounter both times. I also did not have the rare stocks perk in my second playthrough in which I visited that merchant more than once.

yes i am trying to buy the schematic from the vendor. i hope he sells the superior prowler coat because the other types look terrible on my qunari rogue inquisitor and he desperately needs an upgrade of his crafted tier 2 coat that i got from the inquisition perks

Two ways.

 

1. If your inquisitor is Rogue then the hissing wastes vendor will stock it if you have the rare items perk and once your inquisitor reaches Level 22. (Yes Level 22)

 

2. They can drop from any container in Hissing wastes and Emprise Du Lion which doesn't have fixed loot. The easiest method is to quick save your game before opening them (F5) and quick reload until the container drops the schematic, may take a lot of time but that's the only way because they don't have any fixed location unlike the masterwork weapon schematics which drops in 5 tombs in hissing wastes.

 

There's an easily accessible container in Emprise Du Lion behind a deft hands locked room if you have the related perk, its available easily without having to fight any high level enemies and you can access it as soon as you unlock skyhold (Level 9 for me this playthrough) and you can go straight there and do the save/load trick until you get the schematic.

Which rare items perk? I am playing a rogue, I have short list and friends in high places (yet to recieve a messenger from that one) and while short list provides one additional item from most vendors I certainly haven't seen the T3 medium armor one at the hissing wastes vendor. He did have the T3 heavy schematic however, so perhaps it is just random and not based on your class at all.

 

In which case that sucks.

 

Unless it is really "The rare stocks" you need to have, but when I tested that one I just got a load of T1 materials and nothing changed at vendors.

There are two chests at Suledin Keep at the camp. One opposite the other. after about 30 trips there, i finally yeilded the Prowler Coat schm. I too prefer the coats and have been farming here and cradle forever for it. hopefully you haven't cleaned them out yet.

The Hissing Wastes merchant will occassionally stock it if you have the Short List perk.

 

It's very frustrating to be so dependant on the RNG to get it though.

The Short List perk. (5 points necessary in connections) and then visit the Hissing Wastes merchant.

It's rare stock though, and the merchant will only have 1 of the superior schematics at once, if one at all (sometimes other unique items are stocked).

Restocking happens upon starting a new game in a different area, and is random. So don't save at the merchant. Sometimes it restocks into the same stock (looks like no change).

I had all superior armor schematics last run quite fast, but I suppose I got lucky. I didn't even bother to 'exploit' the mechanic by quiting and restarting the game. Just everytime I played the first thing I did was go to the merchant to check the stock.

They are also rather expensive (almost 16K gold)

If you have the Short List perk the Hissing Wastes merchant sometimes have to sell , what you can do to make his sell list change is this :

 

1 - Go to hissing wastes check the merchant , dont have what you want ?

 

2 - Go to another map and Save

 

3 - Exit the game

 

4 - Enter the game again and go to the hissing wastes merchant.

I was lucky before, this time I am not getting any of the schematics I truly want. The seer staff refuses to drop for me at all this time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the coat only have defensive slots? I think the Superior Prowler Armor is the much better option in terms of usefulness.
