It let me save, are you sure you're not trying to hard save while it's autosaving?

Yeah it was probably in the middle of an auto-save. Often in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (for xbox one anyway) there is a little rotating circle indicating that it is doing a new auto save... usually just after you move location or make a decision.

I actually had a bug there when saving got disabled mid-quest for no reason (or probably wasn't correctly reenabled after some sequence), reloading helped.

Weird temporary bugs can happen.  I had one where it wouldn't let me select other party members (to use their abilities and the like), but once I reloaded it let me do so again with no problem.

I had this happen to me too. It definitely wasn't auto-saving as the Save option was disabled for a LONG time... unless somehow Auto-Saving was just magically struggling in that map whereas it was fine/fast everywhere else.

 

Sometimes, I had the Save re-enabled when I went in and out of the areas that were on a timer (keeping it vague on a non-spoiler forum).

That kind of makes sense though since there's a consequence of being in those parts to long, if someone saved then came back later and forgot what they were doing, they'd maybe start freaking out wondering why they are being punished.
