Umm no. Some are used to craft requisitions that are actual items like the "sad weapon".valuables only exists so that you can one button sell AFAIK.

Don't sell - Sad Splinters or any research items (usually yellow in color)
There are other items that have the same yellow color icon that research items have and sometimes a description of the item as well but I have not found any use for them yet. There are also red icon items like the sad splinters and too many breeches but the splinters are the only one I have found a use for. Sera does specifically say "the breeches must be worth something, maybe a merchant will want to buy them" so I assume they are just to sell.
They really need to fix this in a patch. We need a "quest items" tab and a separate "junk" tab.

Yeah, the inventory management is a little weird and an unecessary change from prior conventions. If they want a list of items that have no usable purpose and are just to sell, why not call it "Junk" instead of "valuables"?
And why do research or other items that have a function get put into the valuable/junk inventory by default? As Brutus2 said, they should just add a Quest inventory (which can include research items), then I can put unwanted weapons/armor/accessories in my junk/valuables inventory and bulk sell at the vendors.

I've got some yellow mercenary memo I picked up on my first trip into the Hinterlands that's been sitting in my "valuables" inventory. It has no description, but also has 0 value with merchants which leads me to believe it's a quest item...but I've got so many freakin' quests I haven't noticed which one this belongs to...
