I ignored Varric referring to Hawke as a guy, thinking they were just bugged convos.  I used the Keep and made sure every detail was correct, and the codex entry was correct in describing my Hawke as a female elf.  Now I am 80 hours in and have lost the will to continue on.  

Has anybody else had this issue?  It's incredibly frustrating.

I believe you forget to export your file in the keep because the default setting is the warden is a female Dalish elf who did the Ultimate Sacrifice while Hawke is a male mage, just making changes in the keep or simply import it won't change the files for the DAI.

I went through all the keep decisions again and exported it...  We will see how it goes this time.  Varric talking about a male Champion has me nervous.

If Varric's initial conversation options at Haven are off, the export didn't take. I had the same issue, though on PC instead of the keep. The way to tell for sure is to export from the keep and note the timestamp it gives you. When you import from the keep in game, it will show you a timestamp of the file it is importing. If it matches, it has gone through. If not, it won't.

I found out the Keep was changed by Bioware shortly after I started my game.  It seems to work now.
