With 75 hours and only 1 dragon, I have a whopping 19 unique weapons and armors.
The loot definitely holds a candle to crafting.
I have 19 unique weapons and armors too.
And the crafting is better 90% of the time. And is for my class.

That's been my experience for the past 80 hours as well. It's really disappointing and highly unrewarding. Here I am wishing and hoping with each Dragon I kill that I'll at least get one Mage robe that my character can equip. I can keep dreaming I guess.
You can find some mage gear at stores in the capital city... I don't know how they will look on your char. , but I sure as hell didn't have enough gold to buy one. How do you make money in this game ? When I first went to the capital I had like 4000 gold ? Maybe I'm just missing something, but the only way to make money is by selling your loot ? You sell your unique armor for 50 gold ? Really ? And there are those gather coin missions which don't bring much coin.
Strangely I got some unique staves form drops, but VERY few robes which to me means that there are only a few in the game.
I have been crafting stuff. The armor schematics work well and I'm rocking some Masterwork right now.
The weapon crafting, however, isn't very good. Go craft an epic bow for me and tell me if it cracks over 200 dps even with Masterwork. If so, please send me a link. I'm not being sarcastic; if you can show me a crafted bow that actually does as much damage as a level 7 dagger (which was the level requirement for the 200 dps dagger I got in the Hinterlands,) I'm all about it.
My current one, with the +32 demon rune, is only 188 dps.
I've gotten the armors, but no purple bows.
question is, why should a bow have the same dps as a dagger? with dagger you are loosing a lot dps because of positioning to attack and evade attacks, to be in melee is high risk as rogue (at least at higher difficulties) while an archer is pretty save and can make consistent damage
They aren't the worst drops. The problem is getting drops for my class. If I would've been a Rogue in this playthrough, I would've been having a blast. The Dragons have dropped nothing but Daggers and Rogue Rings left and right. I've gotten decent Warrior armor as well, armor that beats stuff that I can currently caft.
I had the same experience with a warrior. I had an abdundance of rogue gear drop, particularly daggers.
It happened to me a lot of times of HUMAN TRAINED ONLY. So stop crying I am an elven player, and I couldnt wear it, its time the Human players will suffer the same bloody thing.I've been playing this game for 80 hours now. I've just finished killing my 6th Dragon, and I was hoping that maybe he'll drop me some Rare Mage Robes -- mainly because I haven't gotten ONE Rare Mage Robe the entire GAME. So what does he do? HE DROPS ME A RARE MAGE ROBE THAT'S ELF TRAINED ONLY!!! Like really? Is this some sort of sick joke? What about Human Mages? Do they not exist? Are they not allowed to have Robes? I'm so mad right now, you don't even understand. Why.... why....

Just because you don't find them, doesn't mean they aren't out there. I had a mountain of purples and blues of all weapon types.

Er, did you notice that dagger was level 7 that had 200 dps? I just want a bow with at least 200 dps now that I'm over level 20.
Cole now, at level 21, has a one dagger that's 274 dps and another that's 264 dps. That output is roughly around 250 dps, without factoring in fun things like Assassin perks or poison.
I'm not asking for that kind of damage output, but I would like to do more damage at level 22 than Cole did at level 11 (which is when he came into my party.)

I've only got one zone left in the entire game. I've killed 8 dragons and I've been playing for 75 hours. If there is a purple bow out there, it just isn't happening for me.

75 hours, 3 zones finished and one dragon, and I have a 171 DPS purple bow.
I suspect daggers have a double chance to drop than other weapon types since rogues are supposed to equip two of them.

I had several purple and blue bows. Sera had her pick of everything. Like I said before, one purple I found on the riverbank in the Exalted Plains. I'm afraid I can't recall the exact locations of all the others, but at least one came from a dragon, and others were the usual exploration and bosses. Guess it's bad luck with random loot. Myself, I never found the battlemage mail schematic I was looking for, and ended up buying a highend set from a shop. I also noticed a unique one-hander sword I picked up early in the game my first time wasn't in the same spot on my second time around.
The RNG loot table in general leaves something to be desired. I play an archer, I'm at about 75 hours in, and I have not gotten a single purple bow to drop. I've killed 8 dragons now and so far, nothing. I've had to buy all of my higher stat bows. However, I got a 200 DPS dagger at level 6 in the Hinterlands, and have gotten plenty of other epic and rare weapons since then. Yet a bow for a rogue archer? Now that's just crazy talk.
Is it RNG? It seems to me that on my second play I got pretty much the same drops from various mobs (that I can recall). I suppose I may have been lucky (unlucky?) to get the same items. Was an RNG loot system mentioned somewhere pre-release? I'm referring to loot dropped by bosses, significant quests, or other major events.

I've had to buy all of mine. I bought the one I'm carrying and gave it the Master Demonslaying rune for the +32 extra damage. It's at 188 dps. Which is disheartening looking at every single other weapon (including Bianca, so long as you keep an eye out for the arms and aiming upgrades) and seeing well over 200 dps.
The only exception is the staves and well, the mages have their spells. I've gotten 6 epic staves during this game alone.
I find it ridiculous that I can find purples of literally every other weapon in the game. You name it, except for a bow, and I've gotten it as a purple. Again, I'm glad not everyone has had that sort of crap luck, but I don't see a purple bow dropping for me in this game. If it's RNG, so be it, but this needs to be tweaked badly.

Blues yes, purples no. I've cleared out all of the Exalted Plains, including the dragon. All landmarks cleared. Never saw any epic bow there, near the river or anywhere.
If a bow comes from a dragon, it's got to be the level 23 one I haven't killed or the one in the Hissing Wastes.

I have no idea. The way some folks are talking it has to be. I just know that I've always gotten the same loot from dragons (even if I reloaded or left the area/came back.) I've always gotten that dagger in the same spot everytime.

Are you doing the Astrium (or however it's spelled) missions? I've gotten a purple bow in one of those caves. Forgot which though.

Hmm, maybe the Hissing Wastes? I've killed all the dragons except the one on the Storm Coast. (It almost feels rude to kill a dragon that has it's own island.)

The star puzzles? No, because I'm not good at them and because they frustrate the hell out of me. I ignore them, because I'd rather kill for my loot or retake some Keeps. That's worked for every other weapon type so far.
I figured that if I killed enough dragons in a Dragon Age game, surely I'd have more luck by now. I've only been killing those things since level 14.
Ugh, sorry for ranting some. You can tell I'm frustrated about this, but I'm nearing the end with this character anyhow. I know that my mage is going to have much better luck. Like with most of the other things I haven't liked in Dragon Age games, I'll be over it soon enough.

That dragon does drop the Warden light armor, just to let you know. ![]()

I've gotten that from another dragon, so I guess it is randomized... Eep. Hope you have better luck.

You can ask Ryzaki up there. I sometime rant and get stuff of my chest, but I let most of it go pretty quickly. There is a few things, outside of some bugs, that I still don't like about the game, but this is relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. I still have the Wastes to go do, so maybe I'll have some better luck there.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for letting me know. ![]()
Here's my advise, there's literally no good drop from those dragon, all their items are subpart beside the rings/belt. Farm the tier 3 schematics. Then, craft yourself a nice armor/staff made from the dragon part you received, and a custom master piece bonus (hidden blade x5 /5 guard on hit/30% damage if not hit for 5 sec...)
However, if you still wanna wear dropped loot, I believed the only remotely decent mage drop comes from one the 3 dragon in Emprise du Lion (lvl 23).
My two cent.

Sorry, the only warrior spot in my team is reserved for 2handed tank :/, no slot for a Sword and Board
for me late game. Plus, I still think crafted item are superior to drop, even with a slight damage bonus over the crafting one, since most of them have crappy masterpiece bonus.
well as someone who uses 3 s/s warriors at the same time i find the lack of swords disturbing, and yes i know there are maces and **** but i like swords, they are pointySorry, the only warrior spot in my team is reserved for 2handed tank :/, no slot for a Sword and Board

It doesn't hurt that some of the absolute best weapons in the Dragon Age series have typically been swords too. ![]()
