I never use them. But re-rolling loot isn't that bad. Especially when I've been waiting for one piece of loot for over 80 hours now Q_Q

Never thought I'll see unicorns in a Dragon Age game, but unique longswords really are unicorns. Actually, I shouldn't even be using the plural form. There is Caliban which you get off the second dragon from Emprise de Lion, and...nothing else.
When was the last time Bioware did loot right, and epic loot are actually epic? There is BG2, arguably Dragon Age Awakening, maybe Mass Effect 2 (Widow/Revenant/Claymore). I know this game utilizes RNG, and need to accommodate crafting(and why are so many schematics RNG as well?!), but sweet Maker is the loot disappointing...

Not sure if it's what you were looking for anyway. Base stats kinda suck, 107 DPS. However, it has 16% armor penetration, +11 dex, 15% flaming damage bonus. Also, on kill, target explodes for 75% of weapon damage. It also has a grip slot and a rune slot.
So the bonuses make it not a bad weapon, but if you were looking for a beast with 200+ DPS, this isn't it. TBH, I don't think I've seen a bow go that high.
It resembles the Orlesian vendor's bow in Skyhold...

I've done that already. He only sells Tier 3 craftable items. Is that the max? Isn't Tier 4 the highest?
Superior Tier 3s are as good as it gets, there are Tier 4 crafting materials but no schematics afaik. Superior Battlemage gear is the pinnacle for mages.

Slipping dragon scales in the primary slot seems to give the best boost.
If you upgraded your smithy certain items (giant bear claws & ironbark for example) have a chance to increase the stats when the item is created.
I've been playing this game for 80 hours now. I've just finished killing my 6th Dragon, and I was hoping that maybe he'll drop me some Rare Mage Robes -- mainly because I haven't gotten ONE Rare Mage Robe the entire GAME. So what does he do? HE DROPS ME A RARE MAGE ROBE THAT'S ELF TRAINED ONLY!!! Like really? Is this some sort of sick joke? What about Human Mages? Do they not exist? Are they not allowed to have Robes? I'm so mad right now, you don't even understand. Why.... why....
Okay either your game is bugged or you're just making this **** up. The Greater Mistral drops Rare Mage robes for humans. If you're still looking for the best armor in the game then you'll have to craft it, I believe the Battlemage armor along with the coat arms and coat legs is the best gear you can get for the mage both stats wise and in terms of appearance.

The Greater Mistral? If I fought that I don't remember, and even if I did he did not drop me any Rare Mage Robes. Why would I be making this up? I'm serious when I say I've yet to get one unique piece of Mage armor for my female human Mage. I don't really care about stats, I care about looks. All of the Mage Robes you can craft are kinda meh, I want something that looks completely different.
I'll second the "the loot and/or RNG really does suck and they gimped it for the crafting system" sentiment, but I've been saying that was going to happen before the game launched.
What really irritates me is that nobody has their own damned stuff. Except for the Orlesians, because amazingly, you can find Orlesian Army Schematics in Val Royeaux. The Warden stuff is with the Dalish, the Dalish stuff is in the Hissing Wastes, the Inquisition can make their own armor, but don't have their own schematics, etc, etc.

This was like me when I first got the game. I was stabbing this bear for a good 20 minutes early game. I only get a bear pelt after all the hard work.
I was hoping for the traditional "drop any kind of levelled loot" but all I got is realistic loot. What is up with that 
Edit: Also in my Elf bow guy playthrough, I was getting sweet daggers left and right. After getting so many great daggers, I finally re-specd to daggers.
Loot in this game is absolutely stupid. No matter how much you search you won't find that ONE perfect weapon/armor/armor set. IT'S ALL CRAFTING. I don't want to have to collect 30 whatever to create some junk I'll discard after a few hours.
WTF is the purpose of hacking your way through a boss monster, when all you're going to get is a piece of material that requires you to hunt for 50 different materials and a f*cking schematic.
No wonder this game will take you 90 hours.

For human Mage or Elf? My problem is I'm not getting any human Rare Mage Robes. Also, what dropped them for you? And if you don't mind, can you post pics of how they look?

I've gotten one staff drop from a Dragon. All the rest have been nothing but Rogue daggers. I... I don't understand, like this is striaght insane right now. I'm not asking for much. Just one decent pair of Robes. I feel your pain.
What I dread is when I do my rogue dagger playthrough. I bet I get no awesome daggers. 2 playthroughs so far and tons of daggers. But watch, when I go double dagger, I will probably get bows.

The RNG loot table in general leaves something to be desired. I play an archer, I'm at about 75 hours in, and I have not gotten a single purple bow to drop. I've killed 8 dragons now and so far, nothing. I've had to buy all of my higher stat bows. However, I got a 200 DPS dagger at level 6 in the Hinterlands, and have gotten plenty of other epic and rare weapons since then. Yet a bow for a rogue archer? Now that's just crazy talk.
