For those looking for a good bow schematic, it's a non-RNG treasure in the Hissing Wastes. The dwarf tomb right next to the arrival campsite there. It's good.

I got the most amazing bow the other day, very early in the game. Want to trade it? Oh wait, you can't
Well, thanks to a great forum poster with a youtube channel, I don't care as much at all. I can fix my own bow problem, that's even better stuff that's dropped. I'm putting all that dragon crap to good use after I hit the Hissing Wastes. So there! ![]()
You know I'm teasing, right?

the game should allow reverse engineering to get the schematics the player wishes ( unless its a unique item of course )

I'm not a loot guy but I never found myself lacking good equipment really. Learn the crafting system to plug holes though, that's why it's there.

I'm kind of laughing/facepalming.
I played my archer and got nothing but dagger drops.
Now I play a DW rogue? All I'm getting is purple bow drops.
F***** RNG.

Wait how do I upgrade my Smith?
Trying not to spoil....
At a certain point a quest will appear on the War Room map.
If you've played DAO you'll probably recognize the "upgrade".
Think I sent Cullen to handle that one.

Yep. If you're thinking what I'm thinking of, then the world state does affect this. Not whether or not you get the upgrade, just how it plays out. The War Table mission will still be the same though.

I made a bow that gave me or rather Sera, 225 dps, 33% attack, 21% critical damage, +9 for both cunning and dexterity. The stats were after I successfully crafted a masterworks slot that gave me an extra 10% raise in stats
When I start my archer playthrough, probably tomorrow, I will craft this same weapon for myself

I had the Masterwork Spiked Longbow. (128 - 172) dps. I don't recall where and when I acquired the schematic
damage slot - 22 metal
utility slot - 8 leather
offense slot - 6 leather
offense slot - 6 cloth
masterwork slot
for the masterwork slot, I used dragon tooth that gave me 40% chance of masterwork +10% to stats on success
I also added a master corrupting rune that gave the bow +32 damage against living
When crafted, the game renamed it to, Shrewd Agile Greatbow
225 dps
167 damage
+32 damage against living
24% armor penetration
33% attack
21% critical damage
+9 cunning
+9 dexterity
I crafted this bow near the end of the game only to see how powerful I can make a bow since my next playthrough will be as an archer. So I never seen it used in gameplay to know the actual amount of damage it can do.

Good point, tend to do the DOA stuff automatically so I'd forgotten about that. ![]()

Purples weapons don't randomly drop, they are all in fixed locations, most of them hard to find. You can find a 90 DPS purple bow at level 5-6 if you do the Astrariums on the Storm Coast, for example. Complete with a effect that unleashes Immolate on target. On a riverbak in Exalted Plains I also found a 120 DPS one with lots of crit.
The Longbow of the Griffon, obtained during What Pride Had Wrought, is also bar none the best bow in the game. Who cares about crafting for 20 more dps and 10 more dexterity when you launch 3 arrows instead of one? The Blade of Sulevin is also the best 2-hander at nearly 350 DPS, 41 strength and a Pull of the Abyss effect, and Caliban is probably the best 1-handed sword. The best unique weapons are often best in slot.
Purple armor is often random, yeah, but I found the best of them beat whatever I can craft even with T4 materials.
Other than hand, RNG is RNG. Crafting is here to help you if RNG doesn't grace you with good drops and/or if you can't be arsed to find purples.

And here I thought it was weird that I was awash in 2H weapons but can't find a decent 1H weapon for a warrior to save my life.

The entire loot system is this game is just plain stupid. RNG in a single player game where I can’t farm the bosses for the correct drops? If they want to RNG the trash mob and common chest loot, that’s fine, but bosses, dragons, and special chests should have set loot tables or give me the ability to farm them. Also, what is with all of the race and class restrictions? Taking a previously pretty open system and making it more restrictive seems to fly in the face of things Bioware has done in other titles. I get that they did the class restrictions because they sort of removed stat points, but the race ones are just plain dumb. I’m sorry, but there’s no difference in the ability for an elf or human to wear the same robe…

I've got something similar now, thanks to some wonderful suggestions in the thread. This includes the tier 3 grip. I don't recall the default name; I ended up naming it Cadash's Long Shot. It will be the bow that helps me kill the Elder One:
224 dps
Masterwork: 10% chance of Hidden Blades with 4 additional hits
174 damage
+8 Cunning
+12 Dex
81% Crit chance (could have gone higher but..)
+12% heal on kill (yeah, that took priority. I might change my mind and stick with pure crit come End Game.)
+50 Damage versus living. I just got the rune schematic and I had tons of mats laying around. I might swap out the rune before the final boss though.
I used a lot of Dragonbone making this bow, so just a heads up to fellow crafters out there.

I get so much Rogue gear... Mostly Rogue blades and bows, and rings are 90% Rogue specialized. Try playing a Qunari... You will see how terrible your options are.
