When I find myself getting that frustrated with negativity, I just log off of the internet and leave any forums I've been hanging out in for a bit.  Then I'll either play a game or watch some videos.

He seems to be saying media in general makes more of a big deal about a woman dying than a man and that men are more easily expendable, his example being mooks. It's not really the same as the claim that men (as a group) are expendable and women (as a group) are protected. 

 

The claim doesn't seem that unreasonable to me, you could argue that it isn't a problem like he thinks it is but it's hardly "made up crap". Mooks are almost always male, female deaths are usually portrayed as more tragic. It isn't incompatible with feminism either, a feminist would argue that this is because of patriarchal views of women as property in need of protection. 

In regards to mass media there's the worldwide reaction to Boko Haram abducting those girls when previously you'd barely hear mention of Nigeria's boys being shot in the head locked into burning buildings, abducted and brainwashed into being the group's foot soldiers. While for vidya, Target's Australia chain banned it's sale of GTA  V due to complaints of it's depiction of violence against women which are majorly non story free roaming player choice driven, while the disprortionate depictions of violence against men which aren't player choice and avoidable like Trevor's brutal torture of that poor guy was ignored.

But social class is a bigger influence than both. There is no equal playing field to be had and there probably never will be, not that I am saying people shouldn't try to create one. Still, different people have different opinions about equality and the causes of inequality.

Er, most of the feminists I knew weren't asking for Desire Demons to be removed.  The requests were actually to have a male Desire Demon with the same design.  Besides, we got a male Desire Demon a choice spirit and that worked for me.  

 

I personally thought the designs of the Desire Demons were just uninspired.  You've seen one demonic chick with weird colored skin, you've seen them all.

I'd like to see more female villains and enemies, sure. Am I fine with how things are now? Absolutely! As long as a game has a great and varied cast I don't really care if the villain is male or female. Male villains can be awesome (Arishok) and female villains can be too (Meredith, and Calpernia as well, though to a lesser extent).

 

Just don't give me a trophy after killing a female villain that says something like "Bros Before Hoes." Anyone know of that trophy in God of War: Ascension? Yeah. Na-ah. Not a fan of that.

I'm a straight guy, and I don't mind seeing (half-)naked demons with female anatomy, but for the love of the Maker, can the Desire Demon please stop touching its breasts?! Talk about uninspired, and you have it right there.

 

Speaking of brothels... I'd have loved to have seen one in this game. Be it just for a "Surprise me"-option. Because I must have selected that option like 20 times in a row just to see what the game could come up with.

But I disagree with you about it being uninspired. Yes, it's a fairly well known story element where desires are exploited by The Big Bad Evil™, but thats only because it's relatable. I always like that the inherent weaknesses of a hero, who is supposedly larger then life, show him/her to be a normal person. Note that I don't mean the crappy Envy demon we get in this game where you can basically go 'Lol, you're a demon. Screw you.'. The only thing uninspired about 'm was that it was purely sexualized, instead of sexuality being just an aspect of desire.

 

Hell, I wouldn't mind if they put clothes on 'm. I don't like 'm for the boobies (admittedly, it did make me look the first time I saw 'm ), but for the reasons I described above.

 

Also, I certainly wouldn't mind male Desire Demons. It would fit quite well actually. Unless the entire population in the dragon age world are either straight guys or gay gals, it doesn't really make sense for there not to be male ones

...but yea, in a game that lacks an actual "good" villain, the gender of said big bad is hardly an issue. Also, I had to cringe a bit about the fact that the henchwomen was, again, just puppeteered by the big bad boss, that's really an overdone clichee.

Oh goodness, I think you misunderstood me.  It isn't the concept or the idea behind Desire demons that I dislike.  Far from it, that's why I liked our choice spirit friend there.   I just thought that a demon chick feeling up her boobs was a rather one-dimensional look at it.  The design was...meh.  I mean, I like boobs as well, quite a bit.  However, as you said, sexuality is just one part of desire and it's nice to see that is finally getting expanded upon.

 

I wouldn't mind the return of the original model.  I could take or leave a male version, but hey why not?  As long as the Desire Demonds aren't always represented by a naked demon chick with boobs.  For those that desire power (think Seb's quest in DA2,) it should reflect that.

True I believe this is an issue and that it has always been, society cares about violence against women more than it does about violence against men for whatever reason. Some feminists seem very afraid of this notion but that is not the case for all feminists, it may not even be the case for most feminists.
