I prefer DA:I due to the exploration. The game has some gorgeous locations, and I just walk around in the game just to see the sights. The Storm Coast being my favorite so far (haven't seen all the areas yet). That bit beats 1 cave every day of the week. DA:O is still, by far, the best of the three games though.

This is Bioware's first attempt at an open world, though. And their first work with the new engine. So I'd say they did a very good job with it. The combat and the fetch quests are what pulls the game down a few notches. A good quest is something you do because you want to know what happens next. Not to get yet another 30 XP and some coins.

I like both. I think they were rushed in different ways. DAI's multiple races are the new DA2 copy and paste maps. Both make the game more stupid and immersion breaking than it has to be (but if you b.s. yourself that it's all good, then it works out.. I guess).

I just finished DA:I, and in MY opinion, technically DA:I is a better game that DA:2, but DA:2 is a more memorable game that DA:I

I doubt anyone would argue that DAI is not the most technically accomplished game in the series, even those of us who don't care for it freely admit that it's very impressive on many criteria. It's more a question of personal preference what people want in a game.

I think DA:I is a much better game than DA:2. The combat is much better, the lack of repeated backdrops for the same area, the diversity of equipment for your companions, an engaging plot all the way through etc... overall it was a much better game.

There were some amazing emotional highs in DA2 though that really can't be compared to anything in DAI. The destruction of the chantry was so powerful it is a shame it abruptly stops there and the way Merril's keeper sacrifices her life to save Merril from herself is unbelievably powerful (even if neither of these events you have choice over).

The decision as to whether you should kill or simply arrest the mentally ill man who has been molesting and killing elves (when you know due to his families status he will just be released) is a powerful and very personal decision, as are some of the decisions about whether to release or return to the tower individual mages.

There was a lot of great stuff in DA2 it is only a shame that the moments in between those great points weren't as enjoyable.

DA2's story was held together with twistees and duct tape.

I do prefer DA2's equipment and economy system over DAI, even if that was already a massive downgrade from the equipment and economy in DAO. And because some chucklehead will point it out if I don't, I do not mean in a "but you couldn't give your companions armor" sense, I mean in a "at least you can find valuable things in the world, in chests, on enemies and from bosses and the merchants aren't totally useless" sense.

Equipment was bad in DA2! Armor was way too linear and not being able to change companions equipment was the worst. Playing on harder settings I felt forced to bring along Aveline simply because she had a sword and shield. I was so pleased that DAI allowed all warriors to be both two handed and sword and shield again.

Didn't read it, did you? And the latter part's a skill restriction, not an equipment system failure.

I read it. Sorry if your sarcasm failed me. Sometimes a simplified system is actually better... in this case it wasn't.

Let's put the hate for DA2 this way. I made a positive 8/10 user review for DA2 on Metacritic and no one voted my review as helpful. They specifically voted me as being not helpful. Meanwhile, people who wore "EA and DA2 Sux0rs! 0/10! Lolz" we're getting voted as helpful.

God I hate that site.

My memory of when DA2 came out was that back then GameFAQs still showed the distribution of the votes, not just the mean. So a large majority of the votes were 8 or 9, with 7 and 10 also being pretty common. Yet about 20 % of the votes were 0 or 1, creating this insane distribution and a mean that was not close to either voting point.

Reading about it's low scores after seeing that distribution just made my head hurt in so many ways.

I enjoy DA:I. Enough to have 7 characters and have beaten it 3 times thus far. I hated DA:2. One play through, one character I might do it again now that I have the legacy DLC but it will take a lot of boredom to push me down that road.

I prefer the gameplay in DA2. The story however was just ugh. I did like the companion characters a lot (minus Anders of course).

What DA:I does better is:

1) better looking maps

2) fewer repeated areas

3) the story is only kinda based on people acting like idiots, rather than revolving around people acting like idiots

I'm not a fan of DA:I if you can't tell.

I never understood the vitriol against DA2, personally I found the combat more involving than Origins, it was certainly a tougher game, companions were interesting and the main protagonist had the most character due to it's personality system.

Inquisition is a very easy game compared to it's prequels, the companions really take time to start to like them, the majority of the gameplay is clearly just filler and the plot is extremely loose.

I think if you're a player who's played through Origins and DA2 a lot over the years then Inquisitions style is a huge turn off and not what's expected of a DA game.
At least, that's how it's been for me.

Am I still playing it andplanning on doing continued playthroughs? Yes, because I love the world of Thedas. However this particular game has done nothing to make me further embrace the series, it's merely made me want to play through from the beginning of Origins again.

I think I'm one of the few people that actually enjoyed DA2 despite its shortcomings. But still I most certainly don't prefer DA2 over DA:I. I think DA:I is a fantastic game.

And I beat DA2 8 times, and will probably play it again in the future. DAi i have played through twice, and there won't be a third time..as its a super boring, grindy, snooze fest.

I really wonder how DA2 would have looked like if they were given more time.

Much like with the previous games there are things I enjoy more about Inquisition than Origins or Dragon Age 2, but it also works the other way around as there are definitely things I liked more in either Origins or DA2 than in Inquisition. In the end, however, I have enjoyed all of the Dragon Age games so far. Each of them have its strengths and weaknesses but they are all good games in my opinion.

As for the direct comparison between Inquisition and DA2, I really liked the much more personal story of DA2 as I thought it was a nice change of pace. Sure, it could have been executed better, but it was refreshing to play a game that wasn't about saving the world. I like the story in Inquisition as well, but it did feel very much back to basics with the whole save the world thing. As for which game I prefer...I'd have to say I can't pick one over the other because, as I said before, both games have its own strengths and weaknesses.

I get a sinking feeling BioWare will do a HD update of the game sometime soon along with Origins...that would be special-looking.

I don't think DA2 is a bad game, it's just disappointing coming from Origins. That's where a lot of hate comes from with DA2, that it's not Origins 2.

No offense...sounds like you're just lazy.   There was no inspiration in the equipment/armor system in DA2.  For $70 some of us want our money's worth.

Um...I played DAI 3 times and one time I finished the game in 40 hours.

Its not grindy.  Just sounds like you want a quick and easy game while some of us want our $$$ worth
