OK I was only 36 hours in to playing an archer but having just formatted to use Win 8.1 (huge improvement by the way) I forgot to look for the local save game files and now have to start from scratch.  I'd not enabled Cloud save in Origin and am using an SSD so literally nothing I can do about it.  No recovery option and no remote backup.

Don't make the same mistake people :(

As a pc gamer, it is common sense (or it should be), backing up Documents folder or enabling cloud feature.

You'd think so, right?  Uncharacteristic mistake from someone that's getting complacent in recent times maybe!!

If you live in the USA, you can always take your computer to your local, friendly FBI office. They can recover your files for you. :)

Thinking about it - are save game imports possible from other peoples play through?  If so, does anyone have an archer main character around level 12?  I don't care what gear, gold, agents etc. come with it; I just don't want to start over.

You should be able to copy and paste someone else's save file into your folder, sure.  I'm an archer, but I don't have any of my old saves left, and you'd probably wouldn't want to play a female dwarf anyhow.   ;)

Not worried about the appearance tbh!  Rather a female dwarf than another week getting back to where I was before :)  Cheers anyway.

I remember doing a similar thing with Crysis I think it was, upgrading from vista to windows 7 and formatting. 40 hour file gone :( I tried recovering it using some software to do a formatted file recovery, as it was my understanding it might be possible to recovery  if it was';nt overwritten repeatably, took ages with no results, and in that time I could have got back to where I was!
