Will Bioware officially answer why the game differs so much from their promises AND the demo?

Add this to that list of questions you'd like an answer to....

http://www.techspot....s-mistakes.html

"We've visited message boards, read reviews, and we've gone to events to have direct face to face conversations with some of our most passionate fans. We've been listening, and we will continue to listen," Darrah said. He reassured gamers that Inquisition is in good hands, citing his professional background with Baldur's Gate and Dragon Age: Origins as well as personal interests in D&D and pen and paper games."

Yeah, 'good hands' indeed. Considering DAI is half the game DA2 is, which in of itself was a massive step backwards from DAO and the entire point of the above article being in existence in the first place.

I remember reading that article, that was one of the things that got me excited for DAI.  That whole article was obviously a lie, every claim in it was not carried out.

I'm glad they got rid of that. I hate false dichotomies. No reason why you can't save both considering the massive army you have at your disposal by that stage of the game. That really pissed me off with DA: Awakening as well. I could have easily saved both, especially because there was no way that the darkspawn could have penetrated the fort after I took all that time to make sure the darkspawn army that I knew was coming wouldn't be able to penetrate the defenses. What was the point of building walls, closing off entrances in basements, setting explosive traps, leaving behind a ton of defenders, if the game wouldn't even pay attention to all the work I did? Especially when I did all that work precisely to address the exact situation that arose.

You can save both, if you build up your keep good enough then you defend villiage and keep although damaged can survive.

Then, if those are the constraints, you trim the game ambition.

I'm personally convinced that many of the game's shortfalls is due to the man-hours spent in converting the FPS Frostbte engine to work as a RPG. The original plans was ambitious and probably quite doable. Except, the conversion bit into the allotted game development time. So, as the deadline approached, the noose tightened and cuts were made, corners shaved.

Product delivered as is.

Yup, I suspect all the delays and extra time were NOT for making the game bigger and better but making for consoles then also the extra 1.5 years for xbox one and ps4. So the game would have been really badass as originally intended then they got greedy, cut all sorts of features that was originally going to happen, add stupid shard and collection quests and large empty boring zones with grab and fetch quests, (quick easy generic stuff) while making  it a console game.

This game was always going to be released for consoles (next-gen may have delayed it, I don't know; hard to say with the timing). All the DA games have always had simultaneous console releases, as has ME (though originally not on PS because of 360 console exclusive deal). Why would they need extra time than they expected to make it a console game? It was never going to be PC-only.

because of this: http://blog.bioware....for-dragon-age/

Priority 2 – Features and content

As massive as Dragon Age: Inquisition already is, there were some things the team wanted to get in at launch, but we just ran out of time. We’ll be creating these new features and content and adding them into your game over time because we love our DAI players. Multiplayer will also be receiving regular content updates.

THIS! same happened in Origins with both Virgil's keep and stone prisoner (Well originally Lloyd would give you the control rod instead of mr EA merchant that screams to you "GAME UNCOMPLETE")

I just wish they haven't did what they did to the magic from origins. Literally all we have are the primal section of spells from origins and some spirit-esque fancy barriers. Magic is so boring... One reason skyrim continues to sell is because mods can make the game way better. Hell I can't even touch skyrim unmodded without new balanced spells/quest lines. Skyrim is boring without mods. And since this engine isn't very modder friendly. There is probably no way to add new spells...

You PC-only-enthusiasts are really strange sometimes ...

To finance it all money has to come in and the PC gamers have a tendencie to not wanting to pay now and again. So developers and publishers are actually forced to search for other markets. Ergo - the very reason we even have the games in this market is because of consoles! There is no way around this ever.
If anything ... YOU HAVE TO BE THANKFUL FOR THE EXISTENCE OF CONSOLES!
Because otherwise: No future project - NOT EVER - will get approved of and/or financed. It does not get more simple than that!

I have played on PC for over ten years and still do it today. (I hope Pillars of Eternity will kick some ass!)

But my main platform are consoles now - because they just work and it is more comfortable sitting on my sofa in the living room than it is sitting at the desk. It is that simple.
Console gamers are no different from you, SkyKing, or the other way around ...

You just don't have experience with consoles to see that and realize that for yourself.
You PC-only fans can wine all you want ... When it comes to consoles - you just have absolutely NO CLUE what you are even talking about!

The companies are not practicing "consolization" ... they practice a process of dumbing down products so they can reach a bigger audience - people who do not play games of the genre in question!
It has never been about "consolization" - not ever! It is about dumbing down games, franchises and entire genre's for the off-chance to "hit the motherload" and reach the "casual gamer crowd" - the "candy crush" and whatnot "players".

People who play on console are just as concerned about this topic, about these problems like any other (PC) gamer.

Because console games are gimped by this process and dumbed down by it as well - AND WE HATE THAT TOO!

So, there you go! You are wrong in every imaginable way ...

And ... thank you, I guess ...

... for your ignorance and false assumptions, like ... console gamers being easy to please or easily persuaded by PR or superficial or what have you ... Thank you for pointing fingers on passionate gamers who come to this forum and fight for the same things you fight for (like ... complexity, depth, precision and polish!) - just because they are playing on a different platform ...

It is blatantly IGNORANT and simply UNTRUE! Get this through your skull my dear PC-enthusiasts!

SkyKing, I know I am being harsh here - and rude! But I won't appologize for it because I have read this kind of nonsense all over the internet for freaking forever - And it is bullshit! And when I come here, to fight for the same things you fight for - I don't want to get pissed on, for my choice of gaming platform, pretty much regardless.

Take care, SkyKing!

Have a good one ...

The skill selection for mages or lack there of, is one of the main reasons why I did not enjoy my first playthrough as a mage. I bought this title because of Origins! And I loved the skill range and the broad spectrum of speciaclizations to choose from in Origins and especially in Awakening while playing as a mage.

In Inquisition they gave us: Fire, Ice, Lighting and then switchted from healing to barriers ... What can I say? It is pitiful!

It is like mage-players are no longer welcome in DA ...

Well, magic IS dangerous, and it's meant to serve man, not rule over him. In all seriousness, I got that idea too, mages are no longer welcome in the Dragon Age, as one NPC says, "science is the wave of the future now." "In a few years maybe we won't even need magic anymore." or something to that affect. It was emphasized so much that it gave me the impression that mages won't be around much longer.

List some good deep complex RPG games then that were not PC ports. Seems every good one originated for PC first then dumbed down from there, and subsequent releases were console ports and as you said dumbed down. If what I say is true, then even if console gamers don't want it dumbed down, they are obviously 'enabling' them by purchasing the dumbed down games. Look at the ratings for DAI, by PC gamers under 3 stars, by console gamers 4+.  You may be an exception but it seems most enjoy the dumbed down game.

99% of RPGs from Japan are console or model/handheld first, with PC versions being an afterthought. There's a lot of good, complex RPGs that are designed for consoles that go all the way back to the NES days.

While you can play on a console while you stay on your sofa, you can lie down in your bed and play on your laptop and its way more relaxing and better for your back. So why are not laptops the new major gaming medium?

Like I said ... THERE ARE NO CONSOLE PORTS!   THERE IS ONLY A "DUMBING DOWN" OF GAMES!

Put on your thinking cap! The word "consolization" has no meaning in the real world! Much like "Teletubbies" ... It does not exist.

Games are developed on PC only !!! Ask ANY developer. They are then ported to or changed for the different platforms. When a developer strifes to make a complex game, this complexity will be carried over to the PC and to the consoles. The controls are different ... but the game is the same. If the companies decide to make a dumbed down downright intelligence insulting joke - we get to enjoy this jolly good bugger on all platforms like it is. Everybody hates it and you are not alone on this on the PC side!

Developers and publishers switch to other platforms because of money and the "dumbing down" concerns us all! Console players and PC players alike ... Everybody hates it! NOBODY WANTS IT ... and it has nothing to do with consoles. They do it to reach the ominous "casual gamers".

Look, you don't know Jack about console games and you probably never will be interested ... So stop trying to explain things you don't know ANYTHING about! I KNOW YOU HAVE THESE REALLY COMFORTABLE PRECONCEPTIONS - YOU HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT TO KNOW WHO THE ENEMY IS ...

But I really don't care about prejudices - at all!

And please do not be offended - I am just being honest here ...

Take care, SkyKing!

Guys, ...

I posted the PC-console prejudice response above - especially the first posting, the longer one (#135) - because this bs is a waste of time for us all!

For PC gamers to bash things that are clearly the false target distracts from the discussion we are all trying to have here. We are all interested in good, in excellent Bioware games and alike. Bashing technology is not gonna lead us anywhere. People make software. Developers and publishers make the business decisions. To blame the technology is just simply dumb and narrow-minded and laughably far from the real thing ...

When a gamer buys a title he or she thought to be great and finds it to be lacking in many areas, this gamer - regardless of "weapon-choice" - will be pissed. End of story!

And I don't want to see and hear my PC-brothers-in-arms talk about this bs all the time and blame the boogeyman - when there is none!

Our common topics lie in front of us and our common goals as well ... So, drop this horse s*hit and ...

Let's get to it - shall we ?!

Because Tablets are more popular now a days. Less clutter.

Besides, I game from my bed. You can get a big epic TV in your bedroom, use a wireless controller, and Surround Sound Speakers/Headset.

In reality, the majority of the PC community is more for modders or creators, or people that like to buy the highest specs possible. Which isn't a bad thing, since I imagine consoles will one day abandon disc and direct download formats, and just stream games Playstation Now style (smart tvs and tablets will do the same), leaving PCs to be the only ones allowing disc and direct downloads. When that day comes, all that will matter is what "controls" the game is design around, and less on the specs.

Because at the end of the day, this is what the game is more designed around. Not a console but a "controller".

True and you make a good point about that I am surprised more people did not think about that. A laptop is usually better when you travel a lot and you are hardly home.

Yes. It is all about ergonomics and man-machine interaction! Technology evolves every day. EVERYTHING is subject to change.

And it can never hurt to take a look over the fence and to take in new experiences and inspiration from different people.

When software and hardware finally evolve to the point where hardware specs are no longer the first question asked but rather which possibilities will be offered on the software side - then it will get interesting ...

I find it hilarious how people talk about promises. What promises? Just because it was in the Alpha doesn't mean it would stay. A lot of stuff had to be cut because in the end they lacked time to finish the game like they wanted. It got rushed again. If you want to blame someone for those options being removed, blame EA for giving them a deadline. Besides, without deadline, the game would've taken another five years before being released. The fans waited long enough already for this sequel.

What nonsense. The game is not broken because of consoles or PCs. The game is broken because it was rushed out the door unfinished. Bioware has admitted as much.

Remember the Twitch stream only a week or two before release with Laidlaw and Cameron discovering that they were playing "the build where crafting is broken"? They barely had time to make the game playable, let alone test it and make sure it flowed well. Console wars have nothing to do with sloppy game design due to time constraints.

Which one? The fact that they didn't have time or the thing about the Twitch stream? I can give you links for both if you want.
