Hi,

How do you enable screenshots in ME2? A "ScreenShots" folder has been created in my documents directory under BioWare > Mass Effect 2, but there is no way to get any file...

Thanks in advance!

Well that's obviously the first thing that I tried ;) but nothing...

In ME1 there was a .INI file where you could allocate a key binding for screenshots but I can't find this file for ME2.

Yeah, its strange that there is no (convenient) way to take screenshots in ME2. After all there is a screenshot folder created for you. The only way i have managed to take screenshots is as Zerberrus wrote - Run in windows mode, press printscreen and paste in to mspaint.

Another way is to edit Coalesced.ini I think, but I haven't looked in to that.

You could use an external program to take screenshots in game like Fraps. I use ATI Tray Tools which works as well for ATI cards.

Ah, thanks! I have a ATI card so I'll look in to that.

(Still lame that there isnt any default feature for this in-game though)

You can enable screenshot ability yourself. You will need the program ME2CC, download it here: http://www.mediafire...8538f5672f1b9df

1) Open the file BIOInput.ini in Configs folder
2) Under the [SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault] section, add the following:
Bindings=(Name="F8",Command="Shot")
3) Save settings and run the ME2CC.exe and click on compile

Make sure the game is not running while making these changes. When done, now you can press F8 to take a screenshot ingame.

Vigmund, thank you very much. Do you know how to bind key for 'journal' and "meassages" ect.. ?
I wish Bioware made these natural key bindings availible. I dont understand why they wouldn't. I also wish there was a way to skip the start up movies when I create new characters. Still, I appreciate the screen shot help.

I tried this, but for some reason it doesnt work to take screenshots during dialogue.  However it works fine when running around or when in combat.

I agree, it's strange that these things should be there by default. I haven't figured out how to add the Journal and Codex keys yet. If you want to skip the intro movies when you start the game do the following (not sure if this also skips the movies when you create a new character):

1) Open the BIOEngine.ini and goto [FullScreenMovie] section
2) Comment out the first 3 lines like this:
;StartupMovies=BWLogo
;StartupMovies=ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw
;StartupMovies=publisher
3) compile it with the ME2CC and you are done

Here are some key bindings I have added to the game that might be useful if you take screenshots:
Bindings=(Name="Pause",Command="playersonly") ; Pause game
Bindings=(Name="F7",Command="TiledShot 1") ; Take tiled screenshot
Bindings=(Name="F8",Command="Shot") ; Take screenshot
Bindings=(Name="F10",Command="Stat FPS") ; Show FPS
Bindings=(Name="F11",Command="ToggleHUD") ; Show HUD
Bindings=(Name="F12",Command="ToggleFlyCam") ; Show free camera view
Bindings=(Name="Multiply",Command="Teleport") ; Teleports player to cursor location

Yes, as far as I know no keys work at all during the dialogues. So for that kind of screenshots you can use Fraps.

I didn't get fraps until I was halfway done through my first ME2 playthrough and regretted not getting it sooner. I just didn't want to have to install a third party program to get something that should have been included with the game, but the basic fraps takes BMP screenshots (to get jpg, png, etc, need to buy the full version). Quality was wonderful. Game did not freeze at all. No performance issues. When I took screenshots in Dragon Age via print screen key, the screen would jerk and the dialogue would skip for half a second. When I switched back to DA after playing ME, I hit the fraps key by accident for screenshots and compared the results. Fraps won hands down. Dragon Age screenshots were dark and hard to see while fraps took the pictures exactly how I saw it on the screen with the specific gamma adjustments I made in options.

So I definitely recommend trying out fraps rather than try to find a way in the .ini file to enter extra codes. I plan on buying the full version of fraps because it made ME and DAO that much more enjoyable for me. I love looking at screenshots to review my games after I'm done playing with them. Worth it.

I tried this and when I went to save it, it gave me an"Access denied" message.

What operating system are you on, TommyD? If you're on Vista/Win7, did you try running it as an administrator?
