What? The two aren't remotely comparable. Hunter is perfectly playable on perilous without stealth. Infiltrators were completely useless without tactical cloak. You could make a case for the Assassin without stealth, but the hunter? No way.

I know they aren't equivalents. It's just a matter of being used to something and trying to emulate it in a different game.

While I have always used Stealth and I normally recommend others to use it one their Hunters, it is certainly not essential. The Hunter is one of the most flexible characters in the game.

I can't agree with this. The HI & the GI off the top would still be very good kits (obviously with a top tier weapon).

Probably the TGI, QMI, AIU and SI (with a light loadout ) would also be very good kits without TC. I believe the Drell would at least be playable, albeit seriously gimped.

I had to tell some poor guy last night about the long shot ring. I felt like the guy that tells an acquaintance that his old lady was fooling around on him. Maybe I should have let him live in bliss.

What did you tell him? The longshot ring works fine XD

Cryo Blast + 2 Sticky Grenades? Would be totally eclipsed by pretty much any other tech based class.

Hunter Mode + Proxy Mine? Hunter mode is good, but not that good. Proxy mine has far too long a cooldown without tactical cloak to be of any real use as a main ability and the GI is the most fragile kit in the game. Take the cannon (tac cloak) away from the glass and you just have glass.

The TGI and AIU would probably be the only two infiltrators I would even consider taking out cloak (and even then, it would be gimping the kit significantly).

Gotta disagree with that. Slap a Claymore, Wraith or Talon on those two, and with the debuffs from cryo blast and proxy mine (4 sec cooldown with a wraith, less with a Talon btw which isn't too far off what you'd get with TC anyway), you'd still be putting out a hell of a lot of damage. TC just takes them over the top.

I haven't tested it out, because I hate the archer. I was going off information from the ring testing thread from the other day:

Long shot ring doesn't work for me. It lowers the damage when I tested. I do have a lot of high end accessories and builds, so it might have been something there, I will investigate. But my long shot crits went from like 4k down to like 3.2k.

i was gonna bring it up.

the ring works for me.

the numbers get messed up when i take puncushion/disable passives.

also, attack, crit chance, crit damage, flank rings.

whats your gear?

I let him know to test it out to make sure but I thought that it wasn't actually increasing by 30%.

Ah it's cool man, I was just curious. That was probably due to the balance changes regarding longshot, the max I've seen now without to the death is like 3.8k with the longshot ring and a crit damage ring, you can't hit anywhere near that without :P

Thats because the Claymore, Wraith or Talon do a hell of a lot of damage. They are 3 of the best weapons in the game. Its like saying the Volus Sentinel is great when using a Harrier on it. Its the weapon, not the kit.

I really would like to keep on talking about the GI, Claymore, Volus, Harrier, my N7 Rank (whenever I have the opportunity) and several other non-DAMP related subjects, I am starting to feel that this isn't the appropriate forums for such.

So, going back to the Hunter.
While I feel that there are many alternative builds that can work pretty well, I can't imagine using any other weapon but the Longbow of the Griffon on him. Having those 3 shots connecting at short range from auto-attack is crazy satisfying. It feels like this bow was made with the Hunter in mind.
Yet, many players choose to use something else. I don't really get it.

Ill accept your challenge for this ME3 thunderdome. As I am advocating for infiltrators with cloak, Ill be uploading my Gunzerker with Plasma Casters (Borderlands 2) gameplay shortly.

I'm now thinking of firing up the game just to see if it's possible to rotate hook&tackle/leaping shot and stealth/toxic cloud. Having two rotateable combos helps if you aren't doing a ton of dps with autoattack.

I've found alchemist, for example, can rotate stealth/shadowstrike/I was never there and elemental mines/toxic cloud and the only limitation is stamina.

My Hunter build was just as you list. It was really fun for me, but don't expect a lot of kills or high XP.

The combo I did was:

1. Hook and Tackle
2. Toxic Cloud
3. Leaping Shot
4. Stealth (GTFO)

There's flaws in that, as obviously that wastes the damage bonus from Stealth. It just made it easier to drop aggro quickly after laying down that combo.

Honestly, though... I liked Toxic Cloud better on my Alchemist build, but for a completely subjective reason: Wicked Grace. The Explosive Toxin passive makes it so Toxic Cloud, Contact Poison, or Wicked Grace would spawn a new Toxic Cloud.

Needless to say, the Alchemist has a much worse digestion problem than the Hunter...

Thank you OP for this discovery. Hook and Tackle + Leaping Shot + On The Razor's Edge seems like a can't skip combo now that I've tried it. I've been doing a mix of Hook/Leaping Shot with a side of Fallback Plan and Toxic Cloud this weekend, and it made Hunter feel much less squishy on Perilous.

Fallback Plan (or whatever it's called) has to workaround things like HOK, and has the same issue Evade does with lag... but the only way to get the full evolution of toxic cloud and passive, is to not spend the two levels on Stealth. Hook and Tackle--> Toxic Cloud --> Fallback does everything I used to do with Stealth/Toxic Cloud, but now I don't take more than a hit in the process. So hunter is good at taking out mini-bosses, and packs of archers by simply mixing it up between HT-->LS and HT --> TC followed by Fallback Plan. and Melees simply involves Toxic Cloud at a bottleneck followed by Fallback Plan.

Pretty effective bag of tricks for dealing with the masses of mooks that Perilous throws at you.

p.s. I picked up Walking Death from one of the class chests this weekend, so my dual weilders now have Walking Death/ Gift of Talons... so toxic pools get everywhere and go boom occasionally. Alchemist and Duelist are a blast to play now, as well as having amusing dialogue.
