Thank you OP for this discovery. Hook and Tackle + Leaping Shot + On The Razor's Edge seems like a can't skip combo now that I've tried it. I've been doing a mix of Hook/Leaping Shot with a side of Fallback Plan and Toxic Cloud this weekend, and it made Hunter feel much less squishy on Perilous.
Fallback Plan (or whatever it's called) has to workaround things like HOK, and has the same issue Evade does with lag... but the only way to get the full evolution of toxic cloud and passive, is to not spend the two levels on Stealth. Hook and Tackle--> Toxic Cloud --> Fallback does everything I used to do with Stealth/Toxic Cloud, but now I don't take more than a hit in the process. So hunter is good at taking out mini-bosses, and packs of archers by simply mixing it up between HT-->LS and HT --> TC followed by Fallback Plan. and Melees simply involves Toxic Cloud at a bottleneck followed by Fallback Plan.
Pretty effective bag of tricks for dealing with the masses of mooks that Perilous throws at you.
p.s. I picked up Walking Death from one of the class chests this weekend, so my dual weilders now have Walking Death/ Gift of Talons... so toxic pools get everywhere and go boom occasionally. Alchemist and Duelist are a blast to play now, as well as having amusing dialogue.
