Completely ****** up the graphics are "minor visual issues"?
Maybe if you were playing on medium/low before.

Waiting for the fix...

They're minor because they're easily fixed with that command line workaround.

Also, I've been a vocal opponent of wasting development resources on visuals for more than a decade now. The visuals just aren't that important beyond the extent to which they affect gameplay (draw distance limits combat range, for example).

Forced me to play in offline mode so I don't have to download it.

You don't have to play in offline mode to avoid it. You just have to have disabled automatic updupdates before the patch was released.

I always disable automatic updates for games. Why would anyone not do this?

I'd seen someone post that this was considered a mandatory patch, that I needed to install before playing the game again. Would rather just be safe for now.

I'd disabled automatic updates on the Origin client some time ago. All it did with DAI was let me know (if I checked) that there was an update available. It didn't download anything until I manually selected "download update".

I realise now I shouldn't have bothered with the patch, maybe. The only option is to upload my saves to the cloud, disable updates and re-download the game which is ugh.  -_-

I will try the workaround though, saying that I can't even get my accounts linked properly yet.

Also, I had no fps drop anywhere, a bit in crossroads but that was expected, now after playing hushed whispers I barely made it through my fps dropped like a bomb.

That won't work. Origin only hosts the current version.

Was a hotfix released yet for the mesh issues? Luckily, I'm at a conference all week and my home PC is off. If all goes well I'll avoid this whole mess by the time I get back on friday.

There should be a hot fix today or tomorrow. You can get the details here.

The short answer is that your complexion didn't really change, but even after the hot fix you may need to adjust your mesh quality setting to restore the old appearance (since shaders will now match your mesh quality).

I get the explanation about meshes and textures, but I would like to hear the "long answer" for the complexion issue.

According to those details, "the lower settings do not support blending of the age layer, so some users may notice that their Inquisitor (or custom Hawke) has aged considerably. And while this change is how it was originally intended to work, it could be understandably frustrating for people who created their characters before Patch 2".

But seriously, what does that mean? That the various different complexions were never intended for lower resolutions? Then why did they appear at the character creator at all? And if my computer can support high settings (it can), does that mean that once the hotfix is implemented my Inquisitors will go back to the original complexion? Because I really hope that their "If you would like to correct this change, you can set your mesh quality to High or Ultra. This will enable features that are disabled on lower settings, but may impact your framerate and performance" is talking about the settings AFTER the hotfix is implemented. My mesh quality is already ultra and the complexion is definitely not the same. Several scars are gone too.

I also have automatic updates turned off thankfully.  I played this morning without the patch.  I'll be waiting until I hear some positive news about the hotfix they are supposed to be rolling out for this.

Mm... and what if you install it from disc?

That the various different complexions were never intended for lower resolutions?

They don't all work with the low shaders, no.

Then why did they appear at the character creator at all?

Because the shader quality was being forced to ultra, even though it should have been matching the mesh quality.

And if my computer can support high settings (it can), does that mean that once the hotfix is implemented my Inquisitors will go back to the original complexion?

Yes, that is what it means.

It looks different right now because it's using the wrong shaders. Once the hot fix is deployed, it will be using the correct shaders, and if your mesh quality is high or ultra, your appearance should revert to what you expect.

Thanks for the explanation :) Well, let's hope the hotfix solves these stupid issues.

If all you want is confirmation, you can use the workaround now to override the shader quality setting to verify that it resolves the issue (it will, since you have mesh quality on ultra).

The patch made gamers angry, and the seas of the internets boiled over with their wrath.  Keyboards were broken, mice were flung, and the consequences will never be the same.

The patch fixed a number of issues, but sadly opened the floodgates for some new ones to surface. I experienced two brand new bugs, one of which was particularly exciting (and kind of cool): Time slowed down permanently after a combo attack during the assault on Adamant. It was like being stuck in a total slowmo. It fixed itself after I finally managed to use another combo attack... but yeah. At least it was a pretty bug. You don't get those often.

I don't think it's a new bug. I haven't patched my game yet after what I read around here and I experienced this same bug yesterday. It fixed itself too, but right before I killed the boss, all voices went mute and I couldn't choose the next dialogue so I had to reload it.  <_< Luckily all I lost was the boss fight.

Btw, you have to play the game in offline mode or it can't be started on Origin.

That's why I downloaded the game twice, but saved the 2nd download (it already had the Day 1 patch) to my external hard drive just in case future patches caused issues.

I may let my game update after the hotfixes are released, but the improved search function is tempting.

Did you add in the command line fix?

There's wisdom in this. I like what they tried to do, but ironically I never encountered bugs (besides graphical driver issues on terrain w/ nvidia) before this patch... now I've encountered two. One was when I was stuck in perpetual slomotion. Not gamebreaking, thankfully, I was able to reverse it.

But patches should never be mandatory.

Before the patch the game ran rather flawlessly on my laptop (except for the no fullscreen bug).  Now I have no party banter whereas before there was.  One of my favorite parts of BioWare's games (since BGII) is the party banter, and I cannot play without it.  Has anyone got this problem since the patch?

Hmm, I guess some people are not familiar with Steam and modern era PC gaming but this is has been the standard for some time now.

In fairness, it helps the developers keep everyone on a level playing field and makes support easier because you don't have people lodging support tickets over something that has been patched 5 patches ago. Also frequently bugs being fixed are pretty serious and features being added are things that meant to be or should have been added anyway. Developers are not adding things just because and they aren't intentionally breaking things with patches. If a patch is being pushed then it's something that is needed.

I understand people's reluctance with patches sometimes causing new problems but really if that happens the users need to make it known and it will be taken care of. In this particular case a new hotfix has been pushed in a little over a day so they definitely are responding to problems with their patches and taking care of it.

This isn't the disc based era of gaming and I just don't think we will ever go back to go hunt around for the patch yourself and manually install it, nor do I think we should.
