Im playing as a mage (about to be rift mage probably) and Im right now at the quests where Ive closed the rift and beeing invaded by evil templars.

 

They way I like to play I try to do pretty much all small quests before continuing on the main quest so Im at high lvl 11 right now and feel like Im probably ahead of the curve. 

 

I play at hard and have an easy time with almost everything even without using any real tactics.

 

Will the game get any harder from this point on or should I just restart at nightmare before getting in to far in the story?

You can change the difficulty without restarting. I turned it up to hard after a few hours.

Velvet speaks the truth.  The only downside to doing that way, afaik, is not getting the achievement.

You'll get the hard mode achievement but not the nightmare one.
