I'm curious if anyone knows what happened to Alistair in DA Inquisition if he left his royal claims and the Wardens and became a drunk in Kirkwall. In my DA2 playthrough there was the hint that Alistair would start over (as what?) when his Uncle came to bring him back to Ferelden. So far in my world, Alistair has always been the King or a Warden in DA Inquisition.
What happened to drunk Alistair from DA2 in DA Inquisition?

Well, there is a skeleton with a large wheel of cheese and a couple of bottles next to it in the game...
Honestly, I don't know. He was a warden in most of my games, until a certain point in DAI. I made him king after that...never again...
I'm kind of curious myself.

In truth, I would never want Alistair to be the drunk in DA2. Thus it was not my primary world for DAI. I mean I could go to Dragon Age Keep and make a world where he became drunk, but the only way I would ever choose such a fate for him was if the Warden became King with Anora as Queen and Loghain remained alive as Warden (to be sacrificed in the Fade in place of Hawke of course, hehehe, justice is served).

I'd say one of three things. He's either in Denerim with Teagan--super awkward for him petitioning Anora for aid against the magister, The other possibilities relate to Corypheus's false calling. If he was still in contact with Wardens, he might know that they were all hearing it and have gone to Weisshaupt, thinking there was something not right about that. If he didn't, he's probably with the legion of the dead in the deep roads, fighting the good fight and waiting for it to get bad enough that it'd be time to pull a larger group than he can handle. In any case, it's possible that the paths of all the Alistairs will converge in the next game.

I played with a Drunk, exiled Alistair and it was never even mentioned.
Anora shows up in Redcliffe to throw the mages out, and Loghain is Hawke's warden friend, so there is never anything which would be brought up. Which honestly makes sense, he was exiled into obscurity, so why would anyone mention him at all? Its not like the Warden is around to talk about it. It might be different if Leliana was in the party with the Warden, but I never recruited her, so she never knew my Hero of Ferelden, and therefore had not met any of his party members during the course of DAO.

He was exiled to obscurity, but in DA2, Teagan goes to get him in Kirkwall and takes him home to Redclliffe, presumably to dry him out. One has to assume that he had something on Anora that he could use to keep him alive. Teagan is pretty badass. He knows how to get things done.

Except Alistair wasn't exiled, he just left Ferelden himself.

Something somewhere has to be mentioned of him. He's such an important character as a King or Warden, it would be a bit disappointing to leave him out, even if he was left to obscurity as a disgraced drunk. A crumbled letter or small reference somewhere concerning his fate would suffice.
Maybe him rising up to the ranks of the Wardens or becoming some sort of leader of Ferelden warriors and regaining his nobility.

Drunk Alistair is neither of those things though. The DA2 cameo was enough for me.

I agree with this.
If Alistair is a drunk there is no reason to ever really hear from or see him again, as he's basically been rendered an unimportant character in that route. The DA2 cameo is suitable as the end to that character's story.

Alistair is a drunk in my primary world state, but I haven't seen him or heard him mentioned anywhere in my game yet. Still looking. He may not be there.

I know he's not. That's why I suggested that maybe he should regain what he lost, such as return to the Wardens or earn a new nobility title through his exploits. The DA2 cameo certainly suggested that Drunk Alistair would get to "start over" in Ferelden as Teagan said to him. If he gets to start over, then something should be mentioned of him. We can logically assume that he is still alive in Ferelden with Teagan. I'm not saying that Drunk Alistair should be relevant again, merely that his fate should be mentioned in DAI, whether dead or alive.

We don't see him die, only be led away. Anora could easily have decided to throw him in a dungeon. After all, we had the option of actually seeing Leliana die and she was resurrected at the temple in that case.
Regarding exile, he leaves voluntarily, but it's strongly implied that something bad will happen if he stays, which makes it more of an exile than a drunken holiday.

It doesn't really matter, if you chose that option he's permantly withering away in obscurity, drinking himself to death. Where he's at is irrelevant.

Someone in Redclif talk about his past, so, even if hes exiled he still is a popular character in Ferelden.
