Floating up into the ceiling

I have a wierd bug where I occasionally leave the floor and end up in the ceiling.  I then can't move from that spot.  It's happened  twice now, once in the tutorial section and once in Omega.  The first time it happened I was just exploring the second time I was in combat.  First time it corrected on it's own, but this time I'm just stuck above the ceiling.  I've just exited the game so I'll see if that fixes it.

I'm afraid I can't tell you anything more than that because I wasn't really expecting it to happen of course.

Anyone else have this?

P.S. I should also say that I'm having a complete blast so far -  don't want my first post just to be a negative!  Having great fun!

I've seen this happen to my brother. Once at Omega at the doctors office, and once at the alliance ship wreck that is about to fall apart. He was lucky at Omega, and was able to end the mission at the moment, but not so lucky at the ship wreck, had to reload last save.

It hasn't done it again so far, but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem - Now that I think about it, it was also when I was pressing up against walls - maybe that had something to do with it too?

It looks like a bug in the collision detection. The character forces themselves into the wall and warps to the ceiling.

I had the same problem in the Omega doctors office and once on Ilium. The only way out was to reload last save.

In the tutorial section, the room with the first data entries and the safe to hack, I walked onto the bench at the far end, then continued to be stuck at that height, but only able to walk about 2x the bench width area at that end of the room. A Quick load was needed to get out of it.



It has not occured anywhere else so far.

It's happened to me a few times now, during the tutorial section, on Omega - in a doorway where I was taking cover to fight, on Illium in the corridor/room between the market and the bar and somewhere else but I now can't for the life of me remember where that was - sorry :(



It rectified itself in the tutorial but on the other occasions I've had to go back to a previous save - but I save lots so it's not so bad :)

Just posted on another thread about this. These spots are everywhere in the game. Debris, stairs, static objects, destructible objects, you name it. If you're lucky you can get out by triggering a cutscene, otherwise its a reload.



One thing I mentioned in the other thread is some users have made coalesced.ini files that include a no clipping cheat feature, which I think can be toggled by pressing a key. Might be useful to check out if Bioware doesnt have a fix for this.

Yeah, happened to me 3 times already. Last time when we first meet the husks im ME2. I took a print screen. For me it's always a reload.

same here. I was wondering if the cerberus armor was buggy or something.. Seems to like to float up.. Something triggering it.

Yes this has happened to me a few times since I first posted - it does seem to happen when you are running up against the edges of game space - mostly the edges of rooms, walls/tables etc. Occasionally it corrects itself but most of the time I'm left stuck and I have to reload to my last save.



Bit annoying really - is there a patch happening any time soon?

Armor type has nothing to do with it.Just messy collision detection in some spots.Learn where they are at and avoid them the next time.Counters/railings/picnic benches all gobble up shepard.

As far as I have noticed tis a bug in the collision detection, some places like the tutorial area (some sort of desk or whatever) trigger it everytime but I was every time able to get down again ... some other "places" don't trigger it every time ... on Illium during a fight Shepard ran up some crate and ended in the ceiling ... well I reloaded and hit the same crate again, again up into the ceiling, third time nothing happend.



Another time when it happend was on some fogy planet and i was suddenly walking on the rosk that usually are impassable and should be the border of the play/combat area.



Its sometimes getting anoing ...

Had the same thing multiple times. When the level has something "above" the player I found myself standing on pipes or something. At the first colony I was thrown in the air as I tried to take cover near the door where the final battle takes place and fell out of the map. Most of the times it was a reload for me. It's the most annoying bug I had in this cool game.

Almost done the game, including bonus assignments. Had this happen to me 8-10 times already. Usually involves a reload.



I have to mention one instance which was just hilarious. This gunship attacks me while I'm on this bridge. So I hide behind some crates, and as I move to stand up I launch myself straight up into the air. So now I'm floating, staring down a gunship right in front of me.



I died pretty quick, but it was damn funny!



PS - this bug seems to happen most often when clipping an object in the corners.

Basically if you're the kind of person who likes to walk near walls expecting to use 'em as a cover all the time (as I do :D), you'll see lot of places where you got stucked that way. It happened to me more than 5 times. I really hope they fix it.

Multiple times on Horizon, as well. Sometimes it'll shove me into walls on Omega and I'll be stuck inside! Usually I can quicksave/quickload and it'll throw me into the 'real' room, or kill myself with a grenade launcher. Worst case scenario is a restart mission (Did that in the above, Hugo Gernsback mission).

Oh, right! This is not limited to Shepard! In Garrus' loyalty quest a Heavy Mech drops in the warehouse (Not the area where you face two of them. The map prior to that) and proceeds to attack. He was right in front of my cover, about to step around and blow me away when he got snagged by the crate I was behind. He tried walking, floated up a bit and was stuck in midair. Saved my life! Killed the mech and went on my merry way.

This has happened to me a lot of times. It's like my character takes some hidden path and walks "up" and then i can't get down. Sometimes, my NPCs will follow me as well. Always have to reload. Usually happens near walls / barriers. Extremely annoying. We'll see if the patch fixed it.

Happened to me twice now, game played fine until I registered for downloadable content then I'm walking up walls...

Just to update, have this on steam, checked game files and some failed to validate, steam is updating so I'll see if this fixes the issue for me.:?

Random clipping problem. No real fix available as yet. Only "fix" is to reload the save and try again.

For those of you who bought this on steam - verifying the game files seams to have fixed it for me!



Right click - properties - local files - verify integrity of game cache.
