Early game you don't have enough tools to avoid/counter cleave damage so you spend to much time "waiting" just outside combat when killing certain enemies/packs.
*gasp* you got to play as a rogue? How infuriating!

The MW guard-on-hit for daggers is getting overhyped.
Max guard is still only 25% of your health. Even for warriors, guard isn't that powerful a survival tool because against tougher enemies/difficulties it's 1-2 hits by itself.
What makes guard work for warriors is stacking mitigation (passive + shield) and heavy armor + armor passives and reducing the hit damage to a small enough # that 25% of your health can absorb it easily. Rogues have none of those options.
It's a nice buffer but it does not allow a rogue to play like a warrior unless it's vs enemies that aren't that dangerous in the first place. Rogues still need to be manually evasive and avoid damage.
If you play on PC, Archer is a no-brainer, simply because controlling DW (closing the distance, locking a target, attack, switch tagert) with a keyboard is both exhaustive and pretty ineffective.
With the Archer you simply press attack without a target locked from meters away and you hit still something.
If you have no problems controlling a DW Rogue, then it is likely a draw, though the DW gets more weapon upgrades through loot than the Archer, who will end up relying more on crafting.
Is it possible to control a DW accurately using tactical camera on PC?

It does. On normal you need just +3 Guard. On hard +5 is enough, +8 if you want to stand there like an idiot even against bosses, on Nightmare +10 is not enough on all encounters but normally it's fine.
With +10 Guard on hit and AOE daggers on a Rogue you replenish Guard faster than a warrior.
I don't like that style of play but saying that it doesn't let you avoid damage as a rogue, well... it does. With +10 guard on hard you can even hit from the front like a warrior if you like and be an idiot doing mediocre damage all the time.
With +10 Guard on hit and AOE daggers on a Rogue you replenish Guard faster than a warrior.
Urg. You'd have to use all 3 mastercraft slots with a +2, +3 and +5 to pull this off.
It would definitely allow for a more in-your-face approach, but I'd hate to lose a hidden blades masterwork slot.
A DW rogue without specializations has the best DPS input of any class of the game. A DW with the Assassain specializaction has the best DPS input of any class and specialization of the game.
So in one word: DW rogue.
I never get tired of this vid. Really shows the dps of a DW rogue. There isn't an archer equivalent, though you're welcome to look.
Geez! Makes me want to respec my rogue for another playthrough. Are those dual blades? That person was getting nearly 10,000 dmg on several of those strikes! Guess I need to practice with a different set up for my nightmare playthrough.

Yes, they're tier 3 masterwork dual-blade daggers.
Can I ask what Specialization you went with for your Rogue, and whether the choice you (presumably) made for your DW Rogue was a good fit when you swapped to Archery or whether you'd have picked a different Spec.?
(I'm a lvl 12 Archer atm and have the necessary gear to go Tempest Spec. but am wondering whether the Assassin or Artificer Specs would be worth pursuing instead.)
I chose Tempest.
The fire flask allows you to through out your power shot 3 times free of charge and its amazing.
The Lightning flask allows you to pile on Auto attacks in a VERY short amount of time if everything is on cooldown
Frost flask is great if crap hits the fan and can keep you alive in tight situations.

One of the key points about that build is First Blood and Pincushion on the archery tree. +5% damage on every strike for a DW is huge. Add to that Ambush, Cheap Shot and the other AP skills in the Assassin's spec and you are in for a lot of damage on even normal attacks.

Oh didn't think Pincushion would work for dw as it says bow in the description...

Yeah, the tooltip is misleading but the skill is weapon agnostic. I think that the tooltip says "bow" because the skill is inside the archery tree.
I started a DW Rogue but switched early to an archer, which I am loving! The melee combat just isn't something I enjoy playing in this game. I think it's mainly because I can't move and attack at the same time as well as long-ish animations I have to wait for to finish, and enemies has a tendency to shift around or get moved, slammed, blown up, etc.
As an archer I'm having a lot of fun. Instakill openers, being able to kill of anyone anywhere, having a good view of the combat field, doesn't get killed by hard to dodge melee AOE attacks, etc. It's great! Ended up as a Tempest which is awesome (if only I could slot more abilities).
Yup i plan on getting first blood and pincushion for my dw assassin.

The animation changes once you start using dual blades when you play DW rogue. The melee then becomes alot more fun.

True. You should switch to AOE daggers as soon as possible. In fact when I play a DW rogue I always acquire the perk for the rogue schematics asap as with it you can have a good (Tier 2) dual bladed dagger very early.
It's not only for the AOE, it is also that the animation pushes you forward on every hit, making connecting blows correctly much easier especially on K&M.

There's AOE daggers? NICE to know! Entirely massively illogical, but that might make it cooler with forward pushing animations and stuff. Maybe I'll craft a couple and try it out for a change of pace.

Dual-blade daggers change your entire attack animation to a wider attack pattern.
Hell, finishing your entire auto-attack combo even ends in a knockdown with dual-blade daggers. If you get them early, its very good. Once you get your specialization and a few levels under your belt, it's not needed anymore to finish the auto-attack chain as you barely finish a full chain at that point. But that knockdown makes the earlier, squishier levels easier when you're waiting on cooldowns/stamina.
It's the best melee in the game in my opinion. I'm not having quite as much fun with my 2H Reaver as I had with my DW rogue.
