This is the sad part about it, because im the same as this guy. I played Mass Effect 2 after DA Origins and 2, got hooked and played ME3 when it finally came out. Went back and bought the trilogy for PC and played ME1 for the first time then the rest in chronological order. The series is incredible, but like was mentioned some how Dragon Age dropped the ball on this, we can hope that they take it in a similar direction in the future but im not sure i want to wait 5 years in order to see if the sequel to DAI and the sequel to that game captures the same progression in terms of story and design. This is weird because I enjoy the fantasy genre more than the Sci-Fi. It should be easier to write and capture the imagine of audiences within the fantasy genre as you don't have to worry about checking you science nearly as often to please the hardcore fans, and a lot more leniency is given based on the fact that everything is magical.

How is it possible they got so many things right in the ME series? I mean art design, perfect and consistent for the most part throughout all 3 games. Music, while it isn't an epic score like DAI the music for ME 1-3 did seem to fit the setting and had that sci-fi vibe and it never overpowered any unique moments in the game, at least not that i can remember. The interface for ME only got better with each game, you could see how they were actively improving game play within the series with each installment yet everything kept its overall feel. Skills were still evolved through upgrading and you had full control over how they evolved, with each game either offering more options or condensing it to make it streamlined, i can't say i totally disliked DA's skill system but it still feels kind of lacking, with origin having what felt more like an ideal skill system.

I think it's because DA for the most part is a separate story each game as you control a different protagonist in each. With ME it's essentially revolving around 1 person Shepard and the struggles he/she makes with their friends to find a way to stop the reapers. I think they just wanted the stories to be different in that the ME universe is more intertwined. Having said that though depending on what they're planning they may go the same way with ME now as they have for DA in making each story separate. We already know we're playing as a different protagonist in ME4. We'll just have to see whether they're planning another trilogy type story or a single contained one like DA's

Also, I beliiieve I read somewhere (possibly David Gaiders blog which is deleted now) that the DA devs never were sure if they could make a sequel after DA:O. They always had their main story planned out, for across 5 games or so, but never knew and if they actually could make the next game.

Whereas ME was planned as a trilogy right away (correct me if I'm wrong)?

I agree that ME was much more consistent in style, but that should be a given if it's planned as a trilogy. It does feel more tight than DA, since in ME you constantly build your relationship with the same companions, and we remain invested in the Reaper story, whereas DA branches out a lot. And it feels like we are getting to the core of their main story slowly, but each game itself has its own story as well. In DA:O we had the Darkspawn, then Hawke's story in DA2 and now in DA:I the mage/templar war/breach in the sky. But the main story in the background is now also finally revealed and points in a certain direction, so maybe their next game will be more consistent as well. I can't wait for any of the new sequels :)

It's not even the story completely thats the issue though. I don't mind the stories in each DA game focusing on various characters, in many cases it makes sense that it doesn't. Shepard is the only person who can do what Shepard does as s/he is the only person in the galaxy with the cypher to the prothean beacon. However in DA nothing like that really exist for anyone save the Inquisitor and that issue seems to have been resolved so there is no need to focus so exclusively on one character and thus like I said im fine with that. However it's the game system itself that seems to miss the mark for me all the time since origin.

Ever since the release of the first Mass Effect game, my outlook on what video games are capable of has changed. Mass Effect opened the door for a level of storytelling and customization of the player's experience that was just unlike anything I had ever experienced before. And that door opened wider and wider as Mass Effect 2 & 3 were released.

I have played the Mass Effect trilogy numerous times now, and I certainly will many times more. Each time I start at ME 1 and work my way to the end. I am amazed at how after nearly a dozen playthroughs of each game how different the overall experience is, as far as story is concerned. And it's not just the customization that is fun, but the core story itself (that which is unchangeable) is just brilliant. Everything from the dialogue, the characters, the relationships, the music, the gameplay, the missions and much, much more make up what has become easily my favorite gaming series of all time. So first and foremost, BioWare, I'd like to say thank you. Thank you for creating such a wonderful and enriching experience.

Now I hear that you guys are considering remastering the trilogy for the next generation consoles. I can't tell you just how excited this makes me. I'm not ashamed to admit that if this happens I will own both the XBox One and PS4 versions. I also understand that you guys are listening to fan feedback. If you were any other company I would take such a statement with a grain of salt. However, you guys have shown in the past and with this very franchise, no less, that you live up to your word. When the public cried out over an ending they weren't satisfied with, you guys put out a better one. Let me first say that I actually love the ending of Mass Effect 3. I thought the story played out to a logical conclusion and was very poetic. That being said, what you guys added to it made it even better. So again, thank you for listening to the people who love your games.

As for my own feedback, I suppose I could name the obvious things that everyone else is talking about: 1080p/60 fps, high-res textures, all DLC, and while I didn't think of it at first, the idea of a seamless experience (which I heard Aaryn Flynn mention) is a very good idea indeed. I admit that my own ideas aren't likely to break any new ground, but here I go anyway. As I'm sure others have brought up, I would love to see Mass Effect 1's gameplay be updated to match the excitement and smoothness of 2 & 3. I still think it's a solid experience, but even I can't help but notice it to be outdated a bit. I would also love to see the character creator have more options at the player's disposal. I have to admit that I get a bit jealous at times when I see what PC gamers are able to do with their Commander Shepard because of the amazing mods available to them or made by them.

My last idea, which may be a bit fanciful on my part, is that the story be added to a bit. Not because it needs it, but rather because I can't help but want more! The universe you guys created is so immense and wonderful and has such great depth that I can't help but want to see Shepard and Co. learn and see more about it, or even just about each other. I love the dialogue between the characters and it'd be awesome to see some of it expanded. Or even have new encounters with new characters, even if they are small. One thing I would love to see is the romances be expanded even more. I love how each of those relationships evolve over the course of the series, and seeing Shepard grow closer in love and trust with one of his/her squad mates is interesting and fun to watch. I also kind of wish the end of Shepard and Jack's relationship was a little different. It's so well done until their final exchange. Jack changed so much from ME 2 to ME 3, and seeing her go from shedding tears for Shepard to merely saying "When this is over, I'm getting laid" seemed a little strange as a possible final goodbye. It's splitting hairs, I know, but Jack's my favorite romance story so I'm a bit particular in her case. The last thing, story-wise, that I want to bring up does have to do with the ending. I do wish there was a better way for Shepard to survive the finale. I know he/she can live through the "Destruction" ending, but for me that just leaves kind of a bad taste in my mouth. For one thing, it's a tremendously sad ending and is a negative choice, so it seems odd that the hero lives after making a bad decision like that. As for how Shepard could survive otherwise, I basically always imagined that it'd be cool to see Shepard about to give himself/herself so that "Synthesis" could happen, only to have Anderson come up that floating platform, badly wounded as he was, and take Shepard's place so that Shepard could survive and be there for the galaxy that would need him/her as they rebuilt. I know I'm reaching here with such a suggestion and I don't want to sound like I'm being critical of a great story, but I can't help but wish the hero could live at the end.

All in all, whatever you guys decide to do with the Mass Effect remastering, you better believe that I'll be in line to buy it day one and will still be playing it years from now, just as I'm sure I will do the same whenever the next one comes along (which I'm REALLY excited about!!!). Whether or not any of my personal suggestions are taken into account or not I'm just thankful for the great series you all have given us. From a big fan of your work I once again, and for the last time, say THANK YOU BIOWARE.

I want to see my Tali's face done right. Not some random piece of garbage pic from the net. I mean, the end of Rannoch would be the perfect time to just take off the mask and let us see it and actually make it look good

The term you're looking for is "cutting corners".

I don't know it if was so much cutting corners as it was bad planning. After all the spent and resources not only modelling Diana Allers, a completely pointless character, but giving her the whole face mapping routine as well. In retrospect she should have been cut, and those resources instead spent on giving Tali a proper reveal.

And I say that as someone who would rank Tali as the least interesting of the original ME1 squadmates.

I would definitely buy a remastered Mass Effect trilogy. There are certain expectations I have for a remastered version, and like a lot of you, I have my own personal wish list.

WHAT I EXPECT:

  • 1080p and 60 fps ( these are obvious )
  • all DLC included ( this one is a deal breaker if it's not, but I'm betting it will be included)
  • streamlined inventory system in ME1
  • improved enemy AI
  • improved squad AI
  • improved combat in ME1. I realize a lot of people liked the combat in ME1, so it doesn't necessarily need to have ME3 mechanics. I would just like it to be tweaked so combat is less choppy (for lack of a better word).
  • film grain in all 3 games would be a nice option
  • Unified character models. My Shepard (especially FemShep) should look the same in all 3 games. In the original trilogy the appearance of my FemShep import from ME1 to ME2 wasn't all that bad, but from ME2 to ME3 I was like, WTF?

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE:

  • some added scenes would be nice ( I think this was done in the remastered Halo 2 , if I'm not mistaken)
  • more crew interaction. I enjoyed the little conversations that squad mates would have with each other in ME3
  • more dialogue with Zaeed and Kasumi instead of the one sided conversations I had with them in ME2. Someone previously mentioned this and I agree it would be a nice addition.
  • I don't like how Kaidan was suddenly made gay in ME3. He should have either been a romance option for male Shep all along, or kept straight. I seriously couldn't care less if any, or all of the characters are same-sex romance options. I have no problem with it at all. For people who take issue with it - don't play it that way. I just don't like inconsistent character changes. While I'm on the subject of romance, Ashley was also originally intended to be a LI for FemShep - that should have been left in. FemShep also had crappy choices for a LI in ME2. I'm not hating on any of the characters, but she should have at least had Miranda as an option.
  • It would have been nice if instead of James, I could have had one of my ME2 squaddies with me on the Normandy. That's just my personal preference.

I don't like that certain subjects were brought up and then forgotten about, like the dark energy issue. As for the ending, sure it could have been better, but I certainly didn't hate it.  My only disappointment was with how some of the ME2 characters got short changed, but Citadel DLC did help a bit.

Anyway, I'd be happy with just some of the things I listed under expectations. Sill looking forward to a remaster, and even more so to Mass Effect 4, or whatever it's going to be called. Cheers!

I'd love to see two things:

DLC armour with headgear/no headgear options. That includes all squad outfits (no more sunglasses!), the Inferno and Blood Dragon armour.

All ME2 recruitment missions available after Freedom's Progress. All squadmates have dialogue available for early game stuff. If I remember right, the only reason we couldn't recruit some of them earlier was due to disk space. But that shouldn't be a problem for a re-master, right? The only one I see a problem with is Legion, since we'd still have to wait until the Reaper IFF mission. Even Legion has early game dialogue available though (e.g. for Jack's recruitment). But all the others should definitely be available. It shouldn't hurt the storytelling if you recruit 4 (one has to be Mordin), then are forced to do Horizon, get to do 2-3 more, then have to do the Collector ship. Then are free to complete the rest. If they have the dialogue available, why not make the most of it?

Keep the wee boy at the beginning if you must but the prophetic dreams have to be removed , they cast such a gloom through the entire game and Shepard doesn't need them to remind him how bad things are . Holographic starchild needs to be replaced with a holographic Harbinger , and no more synthetic v's organic nonsense or cleansing fire , a cleansing fire wouldn't turn races into husks and monsters , that's an act of deliberate evil and fire is not evil , Let us see Anderson running alongside Shepard toward the beam , so when you see him up there its not so unbelievable , And Javik should really be with Shepard right up to the end , if anyone deserves to be there its him and he would be the one to willingly give his life to destroy the Reapers , then the Normandy can swoop in and rescue Shepard and that can be followed by the Citadel DLC .  The End .

Mass Effect needs to be remade, not just remastered.

This.

Especially ME1 didn't age very well. The graphics are terrible, the endless loading screens an insult, the gameplay from last century and the inventory with 9000 pieces of crap numbered from I to X does not even deserve its name.

And even with these basics being fixed the Mako still drives like a helium filled rubber ball, enemy+weapon balance just ain't there and the repetitive sidequest dungeons are what people nowadays call "laaaaaaaaaameeeeee".

ME1 was a great game, I think we all agree with that.

But it was the story, characters and the world created for and around the game that made the game so great, not the actual gameplay with all its flaws, facepalm moments and gamebreaking bugs.
