I liked it a lot. It was a well integrated version of Kasumi's mission from ME2.

Anyone here ever play the old Mission Impossible game for the N64? There's a mission where you go to a Russian Embassy, set traps, poison drinks, and clock out an ambassador in the restroom then steal his clothes and pretend to be him. That's how to have fun at a political party. I hope DA4 has something similar in it's inevitable fancy party mission. I'd love to stealthily set up a bunch of nobles for a grand fall lol.

Worse than the Fade tower, in DA:O??

Hey, OP, don't get me wrong, missions with special rules, like "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts" are always YMMV, but I've gone through this mission twice now, and it never felt like the slog that Ferelden's Circle did.

OP watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice and learn how they talk. It will help in knowing which is the right dialogue choice to gain approval, I got 97 approval as an elf.

Lol there's no trick to it. All you do is spam the middle option.

I enjoyed the DA:O fade and WH, even if the fade had me pulling my hair out at certain points i enjoyed it.

I can see how you someone might consider them to be a bit Jarring though.

Wicked Hearts didn't annoy me as much as the Fade (I hated that) but it was nowhere near as awesome as Adamant. It would have been better were it crafted like some old Bioware infiltration-y sequences, like Kasumi or Samarra's missions in ME2.

I loved this mission.  No, you probably can't act like yourself during the mission; that's kind of the point - nobody is themselves in the Game - thus everyone wears masks. The only part I didn't like about the mission (aside from a bug I ran into at one point) was the timed thing, but I got the reasoning behind it; maybe if they'd given you a little more time.  But then when I discovered you could earn like 30 points during the dance I realized that it wasn't so bad after all.

Not enough games have missions where you get to engage in social maneuvering, instead of killing, to achieve your ends; I found it quite refreshing.  I just wish I had backed a different player at the end.  (but that is what second playthroughs are for)

The trick with the timed sections is to not try to do them all in one go. The trellis section is pretty easy this way.

Ignore the library doors the first time you climb up, just search about the balcony for the halla statue then drop back down. Ignore the halla door and poke around in the urn room till you find the secret door, then poke around Morrigan's office.

If you're a mage you can light the Veilfire brazier, drop back down off the trellis and note down the order of the reigns of the emperor from the various portraits in the hall of heroes, then climb back up and light the urns in the right order. That opens Morrigan's hidden vault and you can loot some decent mage schematics usually.

Sweep the library, open the doors at the far end as they open on the Vestibule and stop the timer. Give a few seconds for the timer to reset then head back through library, open the halla door, grab the papers off the corpse then drop down off the trellis.

Head back around to the Vestibule, pinging and eavesdropping as you go. Be sure to enter the ballroom and speak to Leliana after the cutscene with Morrigan. You'll now have much more approval points to play around with for exploring the servant's quarters.

After that, is just a case of answering the Grand Duchess' questions with questions of your own. Again, that nets you big approval bonuses and you can afford to burn more time in the Royal Wing. Just remember to drop off your secrets and gossip with Leliana and throw your caprice coins in the fountain before entering the Royal Wing.

If you do all that you can just stroll through the last area, as short of going AFK its almost impossible to burn more than 10 points of approval. Even a Qunari mage will be well over 100 approval by then.

It was probably my second favorite mission after the grey warden one...It was a million times more interesting than the fade. I don't even get the comparison to be honest..

The Fade in Broken Circle was one of my favorite quests in Origins.  I always ran there right away after Lothering.

This was easily one of my favorite sequences in the game. I loved all the intrigue and snooping about, occasionally having to rub out a few baddies and make it back to the ball in time. The fact that the time spent away actually affected approval made the whole thing seem more convincing to me. After all, the Inquisitor is pretty much a VIP here, so disappearing for long periods of time should have some sort of effect. There's so much dialogue and so much going on, not to mention that there are so many ways that this mission can end that I found it thoroughly satisfying, and then you can even top it off by having the Inquisitor dance with the LI in the end.

What bugged me was how video gamey it was. Like court approval is an exact per-seconds timer. It also took me forever to figure how to get into the first forbidden area because in real life you are not allowed to climb the walls at fancy parties.

You can't get caught ease dropping. You disappear for a half-hour and then return covered in blood with no follow up questions. Nobody at the party cares about the four separate armies fighting a pitch battle in the garden or the demons. I know this is Orlais and all but If like the the president of the US was at a summit and Beelzebub pop up I think the secret service might insist they call it a day.

It didn't feel realistic if that has any meaning in a fantasy. I was ready to just let Cory have Orlais, these people a idiots.

I imagine it would have been super frustrating if court approval was hidden in the same fashion as companion approval.

Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts has it's downsides.

Halla Statues.
Coins/Secrets.
Timer.
Dialogue Railroading.

Overall though, if you're quick, don't concern yourself too much with the optional coins/secrets and collect the relatively easier to find Halla Statues you can get through this mission without a care.

And I'll defend/analyze each one briefly.

1. Halla Statues were meant to offer rewards and incentives in return for making choices. Pick this door, you may not be able to pick this door. It's clever on paper. However I will agree it is annoying for things like Celene's Amulet or Celene's Blackmail that you have to gather so many statues and deposit them in the right place. If players open all the doors they can find right away, chances are they won't have the option to find Celene's Blackmail.  And there's also the probability of not having enough statues for Celene's vault when you first find it, and forget about to move the plot. I'd rather there were less plot incentives in these rooms, or at least heavy forewarning that this room obtains vital info.

2. Coins and Secrets are there to give you minor influence and approval in court. To alleviate the Timer. That's all they serve. However for completionists or people seeking a reward, the fact that the secrets and coins unlock, BY STORY SEGMENTS, is infuriating. Who goes back to check that one corner in the Ball Room after they searched it and found nothing? Without a map or guide, players will be clicking the radar 24/7, and hoping their reward for finding this evidence, both quests requiring you to open Halla Doors to finish, is substantial. When in reality, it's not. (Exception is Conversation Secrets. This isn't so bad.)

However you can completely ignore this aspect and just gather whatever you come across and toss them to Leliana or the Pool when you feel like it.

3. Timer. I honestly don't think the timer is a big deal. Add in all the ways to gain approval, and I'd say this is the least you have to worry about.

4. Dialogue-wise there are obvious story circumstances that take their toll here.  This is Orlais. Acting like you normally do will get you mocked, laughed, or simply kicked out. You can't be blunt, or brutal, or direct. This is where people for living play politics to backstab each other, while at the same time paying compliments to one another.

Although the race-related penalty/bonus is a bit of immersion, I also felt it a tad forced. Anything BUT human gets a punishment. And likewise the earlier segments, where you might tell Celene to stop the ball because of an assassin? Could drop you to near abysmal levels, where you're only learning the start of how to play the Orlesian court.

Overall though, it's a nice mission. Don't stress on all the collectibles and enjoy the story aspects, play along, and things go well.

I thought it was the best part of the game. Completely awesome in all respects and a really fun break from straight up combat.

I also loved the fade in DA:O, but this was even better.

The halla statues are stupid.  And the parties involved are under-developed.  And it's stupid that you basically never meet anyone that Briala is supposed to be fighting for.

I really have to disagree. I hated the Fade as well as the Deep Roads in DAO and although Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts is not my favourite mission it doesn't feel like an absolute slog to me like those two sections of DAO did.

However, I can see where it can be frustrating the first time around since you don't have any real idea where the Halla statues are and it doesn't take long before the approval counter starts going down.

If I'm to be honest, I wish there were different ways of getting into the party depending on your race. Perhaps masquerading as a servant if you're playing an elf but this seems to be a happy medium between something like that or not having anyone recognize your character's race at all.

The dialogue is easy. Pick the middle option it's always the most vague answer and scores you points. Top is honest and bottom is aggressive just avoid them. The only part i found tedious was trying to find Halla statues to open doors. I had to reload once after getting stuck because i needed a Halla statue to open a door to get a third piece of evidence to trigger the next part of the quest. I had to literally start over get the Halla Statue at the beginning and not open the door it tells you to open which just has some loot behind it.

The fade in Origins was far too long and tedious. Nothing interesting happens you enter different areas and kill some demons to find new powers to access new areas to kill demons until you have them all so you kill more demons and use your powers to pass through areas and kill demons until you get to the end. After you did it one time here is no replay value.

The Fade was killing me with the backtracking. It came to the point where I didn't feel all that rewarded by the attribute points you'd get, because you get them in a dead end room that you have to, yet again, backtrack out of to move forward.

After your first time playing it, you can get through it in 20 minutes. No a huge deal IMHO.

I've played through Origins 5 times so far, and while I know where to go and can just bee-line to my goals, it just feels long. I guess it's because of that dreamy Fade sound and the blurry camera view.

I think the Fade is a bit of a slog but it has good companion material - change each companion out and you get a different nightmare every time. Also playing as the different forms and aspects is really fun.

The Orlesian Ball is just confusing without a walkthrough. You don't know where to go without a walkthrough, what these Halla statues are for, that some areas are points of no return, and it's just very confusing and badly designed in my opinion. It devolves into walking around the game speaking to anyone with a text bubble above their head and pinging the radar.

I dread replaying it. Also why dont' I get a cool mask?
