The timers are only really annoying on the first playthrough. On my second time around I knew where most things were off by heart and it's easy to spam secrets and say the right dialogue to compensate for any loss. As someone who has the 'skip fade' mod in DA:O I disagree with this topic, I love the Orlesian ball.

I didn't enjoy Wicked Eyes/Hearts, which is a shame because there's not many parts to the main quest and I was hoping that I would at least enjoy all of them.

I considered DAO fade completely awesome, and wicked hearts wicked eyes middle of the tree.

My favorite part is the beginning. Bring different companions to hear their 'formal' introduction. Sera and Solas introduction are pretty funny.

Most of this mission is kinda meh, neither here nor there.  The 'timed' part, however, pushes it overall negative.  Also the 'not having enough halla statues' bit.  Who designs locks with out enough keys?  In the future, I'll save enough statues to get Celene/Briala executed and use the rest on one of the melee/magic doors.

It sucks but I know I wasn't the target audience for this quest. I wish we had a skip the ball mod for this game. Those phony accents and silly costumes don't help with immersion either.

Cassandra's is pretty good. She has so many names and cuts the guy off lol. "Get on with it!"

I really enjoyed it but I can see it being frustrating on subsequent playthroughs with the statues and timers and...yeah.

This is exactly why the Fade: Lost in Dreams comparison stands up for me.

Until I got a feel for how much approval I needed/could get, the timer ticking down was a bit nerve wracking.

Once that was sorted, I enjoyed it to pieces.

The DA:O Fade, otoh, stole my bike.

Then three bears showed up and took my lunch moneyz.

OP watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice and learn how they talk. It will help in knowing which is the right dialogue choice to gain approval, I got 97 approval as an elf.

I had over 100 easy first try. Maybe the op just sucks.

See, I really enjoyed both the DA:O Fade and the DA:I Party.  I wish they would do more stuff like this, where your character is pushed out of their hack & slash comfort zone.

I only did one play through of it, so memory prolly sucks, but ... is that the servant's door in the room that also has the entrance to the trophy room?

Yeah second playthrough I just ploughed through it as quickly as possible tbh. I found it all pretty tedious, and not really fitting with the rest of the game.

I can see how the timer could be nerve-wracking and it really got me the first time.  Especially in the Servants Quarter, getting that one halla statute up on the beam, without a Walk/Run Toggle it took me probably a dozen Court Approval (CA) points before I got it.

But after the first time, I realized that you can get more Court Approval than you can shake a stick at.  Seriously, take your time.

My experience is most scandalous secrets don't show up until after you come back from Servants Quarter.  After that go into the Guest Wing hallway and there's pinging absolutely everywhere!

As others have mentioned, you can leave the Servants Quarter and the Royal Wing whenever you want, to turn in your Scandalous Secrets/toss Caprice Coins.  Don't have to go through to the end first.

If you get a "Boring" and "Just gossip" the first time you Eavesdrop in any given red circle, just keep trying (have to wait a little bit before the circle respawns) until you get a Secret.

The only part I wish they'd change is give my female Inquisitor a dress.  I hate that military costume.  I hate it!  Solas would have liked seeing me in a dress I'm sure... I never get an opportunity to dress girly in this game.  : (

The dialogue is easy. Pick the middle option it's always the most vague answer and scores you points. Top is honest and bottom is aggressive just avoid them. The only part i found tedious was trying to find Halla statues to open doors. I had to reload once after getting stuck because i needed a Halla statue to open a door to get a third piece of evidence to trigger the next part of the quest. I had to literally start over get the Halla Statue at the beginning and not open the door it tells you to open which just has some loot behind it.

The fade in Origins was far too long and tedious. Nothing interesting happens you enter different areas and kill some demons to find new powers to access new areas to kill demons until you have them all so you kill more demons and use your powers to pass through areas and kill demons until you get to the end. After you did it one time here is no replay value.

And there is just oodles of replay value in collecting the same halla statues, collecting the same secrets at the same spots, collecting the same coins, spouting the same crap to get the most court approval again and then deciding who will be leader..oh but dont worry its really ineffectual because no matter who you choose or don't choose Orlais will always be screwed in some way. The game likes to hammer home that no choice you make is good or bad, its all grey because reasons and realistic stuff rawr. Like I have said in other posts, I wanted the option to kill them all and run the country from the War Table, but no..Orlais goes into panic if they don't have a moron from the noble family running them.

I loved Wicked. I lost 5pts for being a mage but my clever Quizzy more than made up for it. Finally a noncombat mission where you have to use brains and charm instead of flinging a weapon around all day. Loved it! I hope BW do more quests like this one.

I liked Wicked Hearts. It was a different sort of puzzle (until I figured out that you can just spam the middle option for the most part). I like that everything from your race choice to the abrasiveness of your personality can make the event easier or harder. I like that the crowd actually notices that you are missing. The timing puzzle here really isn't that much different than the timing puzzle in the side-with-the-Templars quest.

I don't like that the actual puzzle of who the Venatori conspirator is basically solves itself.

I don't like that ultimately it doesn't seem to matter who you chose to have on the throne. Though admittedly, the same type of choices made in DAO don't really matter, either. I can only imagine what the struggle is to show more significant current-game consequences to your choices.

Overall, I think it's a mechanic that, while not perfect, has the potential for improvement and could be even better.

Like most of the things that bug me about DA:I, I feel like it could have really been great if BW had actually committed resources into fleshing it out. As it is, it's just another "great idea done poorly."

The Halla statue mechanic was the worst. Just the worst. So game-y and incongruous that you know it was not part of the original design. It couldn't have been. You just know that originally the design called for unlocking the various decisions using approval somehow, but they couldn't get it to work, and then at 11:59pm on Sunday, they said: "**** it, use statues."

I agree, it got boring fast and going through that quest again would be awful. The timer made me rush and rushing leads to me not having any time to actually enjoy whatever it is I'm doing. While I got the Belle of the Ball achievement I wasn't able to 100% the deer things because I apparently advanced the quest to the point it wouldn't let me go back through some of the doors after I saved some dude. While I find mindlessly killing mob after mob to be a bore fest as well, listening to a bunch of horrible accented people all dressed the same whine about their life stories wasn't much better. Also, seeing that disgusting red tunic thingy everyone was wearing was really grating. Why no dresses for the girls? Why did Solas' forced helmet clip when he was the only one who would be wearing it? It ruined what could have been a really cute scene. Oh right, "too much work". ^_^

HAH. Anyway, spamming the middle dialogue option seems to get you a lot of approval.

I finished with 100% approval and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing :/ I didn't mind it, it was a nice change to just killing things.

Whoever came up with that "Opening Doors with Halla Statutes" concept deserves to burn in hell for few hours.
