Agree worst part of game. And fact I don't care who rule Orlais. We have to pick one of 3 vipers practically know nothing about only all 3 power hungry. Why not just kill all 3 and give Orlais to Alistair.
wicked eyes/hearts is million times worst than the Hated DAO Fade

It sucks but I know I wasn't the target audience for this quest. I wish we had a skip the ball mod for this game. Those phony accents and silly costumes don't help with immersion either.
I'm pretty sure those are mostly, if no all, real accents. And all Orlesians look like idiots. It's part of what makes them Orlesian. ![]()
Once you know where everything is, it's easy as pie.
I do rather wish we could kill all 3 and give Orlais to Alistair, but I'm absolutely certain he wouldn't thank us, lol.

Its very interesting to see that there are more than a few against the whole timer in a RPG business yet we had a bunch complain because Bioware decided to remove the Crestwood timer mission lol .
On topic though, i liked the timer it made it realistic , you cant expect a popular figure like the inquisitor to go to a party then disappear for too long before people took notice , thats just weird.

I didn't have a problem with it, of course the completionist in me had me clear an area with a timer and then reload a save just before that area and then just bee-line to what I was missing. As a Qunari Mage (starting at 25) I was able to go well beyond 100 reputation and filled all three the "hunt and seek" quests there.

I will say that I thought it was odd and feels forced that Corypheus even cares enough to plot an assassination on the Empress. Not like she was--nor seems like she has any plans for--doing anything to counter Corypheus. Corypheus could've just left well enough alone and Orlais would've just kept playing their stupid Game while Thedas went to hell in a handbasket.

I concur with the OP. Initially I was enjoying the break from combat and a different kind of quest, but now I seriously am not enjoying this quest. I was thoroughly enjoying this game (aside from the constant rock picking and gardening) until Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts. I seriously just alt/tab'd out of the middle of another freaking boring conversation and rage quit the game in frustration. I'm 92 hours in, and suddenly want to choke the sh*! out of this game. Searching around endlessly for an abusurd number of annoying secrets in a freaking maze, listening to a bunch of boring pompous *expletives*, fighting a bunch of Vints in minutes long battles because none of my party have their armor with the armor perks so the fights take MUCH longer than normal, while all the while my irritating court approval is bleeding away rapidly. It's a big confusing, frustrating, annoying mess. I can't even keep track of who's who, who's good, who's bad or wth is going on and what I need to do, because I'm rushing around trying to get everything done before the jocks throw me out for being a nerd at the frat party. I get that is Orlesian politics, but it is NOT fun. I love Bioware games, but this is the most irritating quest they have ever put together.
If they had cut the amount of crap you have to overhear or find by about 1/2, I could deal with it. ME2 had a similar quest for Kasumi, but you had a fraction of the crap to overhear and find, and it was fun. There is an absurd amount of crap this mission wants you to find, the level is a confusing mess, and the added frustration of you can't fraking walk away from the party for 2 seconds or you're not the popular kid anymore and you'll get booted, just makes this quest annoying and frustrating, not fun. I guess I could just fast track and go pick somebody to side with, but I'd like to collect all the stuff and make them all aid the Inquisition, only I don't think I can stand playing the quest anymore to make that happen.
I appreciate that they tried mixing it up and adding a different type of non combat quest, and I can see merit there, but there are too many elements for it to be fun as is. Either reduce the amount of crap I have to find, or cut the annoying popularity timer out all together. Without the timer I might have been able to tollerate this mission, but with it and the sheer volume of crap you have to find while it's ticking away, means It's just irritating as is. Or better yet, make it a side quest not a main story quest. That way those who actually enjoy being frustrated can play it as is, and those who don't like smashing our keyboards on our foreheads, can continue on with the rest of the game. ![]()

I had no problem solving anything.... I just don't like it for various reasons listed on this thread. It doesn't suck cause of difficulty. If you enjoy it great. There is something in this game for just about everyone and that's what makes it good overall.

There is absolutely no way Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts can compare to the sheer tediousness of DA:O's Fade. Absolutely not. That said, I wasn't too fond of this mission because it was essentially a glorified game of Clue. When I heard that we would be participating in The Game, I was expecting more political dialogue "battles," (like the final dialogue with the Elusive Man in ME3 or in Danganronpa) not slinking around through the dark depths of a castle looking for incriminating evidence against the players of The Game. That's something a Bard should've done for me, the Inquisitor, so that I could have an edge over the players I'd be facing. Overall, it was the weakest portion of the game to me and it can get grating, especially on subsequent playthroughs, but it's definitely not as bad as the Fade or the Deep Roads from DA:O.

Well... it's not as bad as DAO's Fade quest, but I definitely hated it >.<
My character was a Dalish elf who didn't care about Orlesian politics, and the game never gave him a reason to care.
The only time he started to care was when he met Briala; he wanted to help her and tried to, but somehow he ended up making Celene empress, killing Gaspard, and exiling Briala. WHAT?
The sheer mechanics are horrible; the quest is non-linear; I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing half the time! I honestly enjoyed MOTA better than this lol

I concur that it's good they included something for everyone, except something this "troublesome" should probably be a side quest, not a main story quest. That way those who like political gossip can play it and get whatever perk from it, and those who don't can run the other direction.

Agreed, it made perfect sense. Everyone is watching you. You don't want to be seen looting the cupboards.

The only thing I disliked about it was the "timer" that caused you to lose reputation with the Orlesian court if you wandered off for too long.
You are there to be seen.
You will be gossiped about if conspicuously absent.
Move with pace. Don't fret about looting every Orlesian butter knife, they are irrelevant compared to the 'Game"...

Or careening full-speed down the halls - oh wait, no walk button.
For my part, I spent a great deal of time jumping on the furniture, coming in and out through that one open window in the Guest Wing, and attempting suicide off the various balconies. At no point did this earn me any disapproval, by the way. I guess it's all part and parcel of parties in Orlais? Especially trying to jump off the balconies.
But I asked that guard about the closed off doorway two times, and that apparently was tres gauche. -10 Approval Hallas.

I despised this part strictly due to the "timed" element. I loathe games that "rush" you along like that. Yeah, it provides something a lot more than just combat and killing stuff (even though there's some of that here too). I would actually enjoy this part if the timed element was removed. As it is, I detest it.

It seems that I'm in minority here, but this was one of my favorite parts of the game. Felt that I really had to think what to do and say. Was surprised when I heard that there's a "end boss" cause everything went as I planned on my first playtrough. One part I hate is the Forbidden Oasis ![]()

I'm honestly surprised by how many people seem to dislike this part. I really found it a highlight of the game.

I admit in my first playthrough, I thought the same as the OP. The first time you play it, how on earth are you supposed to know how to keep your court approval up lol. I was very irritated. And..I got kicked out of the ball after dancing with the duchess. :hides in shame:
I learned that turning secrets in to Leliana increased my court approval, certain dialogue options were key, and that returning to the ballroom at exactly the 2nd bell (third bell= big dive in approval rating). Also when speaking with the duchess, be as vague as possible. Revisiting areas and searching for hidden "scandals" will pay off, because they appear over time.
Last night I got to 100 approval and ended with the "belle of the ball" (or whatever it was called) achievement. Reconciling Celine and Briala, and taking the nonviolent route (exposing the duchess without fighting) was kind of fun to see after previous plays.

You know, you can re-equip your gear to speed battles up with no loss (you automatically change back to formal gear when you need to). Also secrets are just a way to to regain approval, so if you can't find some, just move on. All you need to worry about are Halls statues, and if you don't waste those, you only need 6 at most out of 11.I concur with the OP. Initially I was enjoying the break from combat and a different kind of quest, but now I seriously am not enjoying this quest. It's a level about politic manipulations played as a deadly game where the weapons are words and smiles and you're upset choosing the wrong dialogue option can ruin you?
Isn't that the whole point?

I started the mission with 30 approval as a female human mage, and ended up with 100. My way of dealing with forbidden areas was to save first then explore until I knew exactly where everything was, then reload and do it super fast. I detest politics and false people in real life, so my goal was just to get the whole thing over with as quickly as possible. With the fast method, I only threw in 1 coin and never even had to give Leliana all my secrets since I was already at 100% approval.
The only redeeming part of the whole mission was the dance I got at the end with Cullen. ![]()

funny i had no issue with the fade section of DA:O i quite liked it.
but the game? into my 3rd playthrough refining my elfquistor mage.
i wish only to find out the most effective way to destabilise the orlais.
so far i can't find better than celene in charge with the elves in open revolt bralia plotting her return from exile, ferelden still in a state of cold war and the empress turning her back on the inquisition.

I thought the mission was great, except for two things:
- on my 2nd playthrough it was dead boring (no replayability)
- I was given absolutely no reason to care who rules in Orlais... I don't know Celene, Gaspard or anyone there.
Some decent writing was ruined by the fact they "forgot" I needed motivation and reason to care who rules.
- the appalling lack of hair options had the duchess looking like Guile from Streetfighter... No, those haircuts weren't big among high-born ladies in medieval times.
Not only is it ugly, it's completely immersion breaking (to me, anyway)

Your advisors tell you you need to act a certain way in order to gain favor. So it's not like you aren't warned going in. I don't believe you actually need high favor to complete the mission however. It just helps.
