There are plenty of reasons to do the dark ritual.
One of the best ones is to see the effect on Morrigan's self esteem when Loghain tells her that he's thinking about a corpse when he shags her.

Because my warden was human and all humans are inherently selfish. If she saw a way to live then damn sure she was going to take it, she's a warden out of necessity (mage tower and all that) and she did her job. She just wanted to live her life.
