Chaotic focus burns your own barrier for a damage bonus when using fire spells.

Does energy barrage count as a fire spell for the purpose of applying chaotic focus bonus damage - when your equipped staff is fire and EB is pure fire damage?

I'm actually very interested in some info on this, How exactly does staff damage type affect your spells and abilities?

Does it matter at all if my staff has the same damage type as my spells, apart from passive bonus (like "all X type damage gets +10%") ofc.

I doubt that. I didn't test it, but I'm pretty sure it checks what tree the spell belongs to, not the type of damage it deals.

No.

I think the answer is no because I recall checking, but I'm not 100% since it wasn't extensive testing. But I'm pretty sure it does not work.

It is not effected. Counts as a "lightning" spell. Tested from full barrier, barrier only went down a tiny bit.

It is actually better to have a different element in the staff.

I use a Firequisitor, which deals a lot of damage, and until I unlocked necromancer all my damage was fire, and my staff. Having Energy barrage with a frost staff really helped, when I found an enemy resistant to fire.

The 10% debuff is so minor I dont think its worth even the upgrade. Unless you are a psyco and want to go ALL FIRE NO MATTER WHAT, which I completely respect.

Technically it's better to have an attack spell of a different element. Energy Barrage can fill this role quite well due to it's dependence on staff element, but IIRC if you have Energy Bombardment it's better to have the same staff element as your dominant element to take advantage of the weakness it inflicts.

That was exactly what I did with my Pyromancer, he had this sweet ice staff just to "melt" those resistent rage daemons (pun intended)
