...but splashing in the puddles in the Skyhold courtyard is totally worth it.
(This is not sarcasm. I was genuinely pleased with the ripple and splash effects when you jump in a puddle).

it is a bit of a gimmick isn't it, it's only there to get over every little rock your character inevitably gets stuck on because of this poxy frostbite engine (battlefield is notorious for this)
I was opposed to it, but I actually really enjoy it. I think it benefits the game, and I really like some of the few platforming elements I've encountered.
That said, it can be annoying when you have to hop a lot (like the stupid rock columns), and some of the stuff doesn't work great with the PC controls (due to inertia, since the only movement supported is a full run), like trying to loot the body on the rafters at Winterwatch.
More importantly, why are there puddles there. Doesn't the inquisition have mops? Clean that **** up and put some cobblestones down, Maker damn it!

It was necessary because of the move to the frostbite engine and open world. It adds no other real value to the gameplay in my opinion.

Nor is it intended to add additional value. It is a practical mechanic.
I don't know why people complain about it though. If you don't want to jump, don't jump. Simple as that.
I love it
realy. I always wanted in DA get on some rock or just search higher places now I can and sometimes I found good stuff. I think it was not waste. I would love to see more destructible things used to climb and jump on or used in fight I think this engine could do it. Also I would love to see cutting arms, legs, heads, body in half etc ![]()

This; nobody ever claimed that the jumping made fights more tactical or something. It's for navigating the open world somewhat easier and that's what it helps you do.

Because jumping leads to jumping puzzles, drawing the game closer to a platformer and yet further away from a tactical RPG.

problem is, there are many times when you need to jump... so your way of doings things isn't as simple as you think
Always nice to be able to explore new areas with some jumping...also, leaping over arrows shot by your enemies is a win. ![]()
