There's lots of arguing over which is the best Dragon Age, many people suggesting Origins is it, many others suggesting those people are wearing Rose tinted glasses. So I threw this straw poll up.

http://strawpoll.me/3167721

Forgive me if this has been done in any official capacity, a cursory check couldn't find anything. It's juts for fun and to act as a distraction from all the moaning over the current game.

For me, Origins wins hands down. Its story felt more like you had the fate of the world in your hands than Inquisition does (dude creates big hole in the sky, hole gets closed and despite not being able to achieve his delusions of godhood, is suddenly the biggest threat in the world?). The systems when used on the PC where superior in every way compared to its two sequels and I felt for the most part, the companions had more depth. It's still on my HDD, I still regularly play the game and I still enjoy it.

For me it is DAI, hands down.

I loved DAO and DA2, but it is always the case that legacy games are forever superior in many gamer's minds simply because of the emotional investment in those games.

Technically, and from a story standpoint, DAO simply IS NOT as good as DAI. In fact, having completed my most recent DAO playthrough just before DAI came out, I found myself getting bored to tears half way through.

Characters in DAI are much more interesting, the world feels more alive...there are more scenic variety...etc etc.

I thought it was Inquisition, but during my second playthrough I put it behind Dragon Age II, which is behind Origins

I think that based on length, breadth, size, technical improvements, etc., Inquisition is a better game than Origins (or at least should be when certain things get fixed in the upcoming patches).

However, while I'm enjoying the hell out of Inquisition, I don't think it's as good a game for 2014 as Origins was for 2009.

Origins for me, although DA:I isn't too far behind.

If DA:I had the class & skill system of DA:O (or at least something close to it), it would probably have ended up as my favorite but with the restrictive classes/skills... no way. And while I'm probably in the minority with this... I much prefer DA:O combat as it's less flashy/over the top.

In regards to comanpions, DA:I wins hands down, as well in terms of environments.

From story point of view DAO is the best Bioware game, as for gameplay ME3 is most fun.

And yes, DAI has the worst gameplay so far.

Right because explaining things and giving satisfying twists and giving the player the reins is clearly inferior to pulling a Voldemort out of your ass and introducing conflicts we get no background information on *cough*Orlesian Civil War*cough*.

The storytelling in DA:I is inferior, sadly. Remember when you could talk people out of conflict or just cut them down based on YOUR choice and not that of the developer? Remember when hard choices were actually hard choices and not forced? Remember when there were actual consequences to your choices? Being forced to kill a child possessed by a demon because you had failed to save the Circle? THAT is good storytelling. Agency matters.

People don't consider Origins better because of nostalgia, but because it was a genuinely brilliant game (even with its flaws).

You have to be on crack to think inquisition is better than Origins. I played Origins again twice through right before inquisition came out... Origins is so, so, so much better in almost every aspect other than graphics.

I love DA:I

Well I did until the patch utterly borked it for me but hopefully they fix that soon. I like the more open feel of Inquisition - and Origins was my absolute favorite for a long time. But Inquisition seems more free and huge overall. I love the crafting and how there is so much to do. Only major thing missing for me is like a mirror to change appearance and maybe some more throwback armor crafting designs.

'The world feels more alive in inquisiton'
You have got to be trolling. Random spawns of nameless enemies, stupud fetch quests, green fade blobs everywhere... Yeah that screams immersion.

Literally everthing about Origins is better except the graphics. I could care less that Inquisition is open world- if i wanted that so badly I'd play Fallout or Elder Scrolls.

I like them all for different reasons.

The choices have consequences in Origins hasn't been touched, since.  I did, actually, have to kill Conner with my own hands on my second play through and that broke me.  I have not seen that sort of stark, sudden, blinding revelation of what you did MEANT SOMETHING since.  In DA or anywhere else, to be honest.

The dialog wheel, friendship/rivalry (rivalmances rule, no arguing) thing and more complex tactics (And!  I can do an AND!) in II make it still a favorite, even though the re-used scenes and lack of companion interaction sucked.  But really, it's not hard to hook me on a game with voices the like of Fenris, Arishok, and Justice handing around.  That game was a voice thing bonanza.  Swoon.

The sheer breadth, the openess, the more fluid flirting/romance options (flirting does not always force a relationship), the wartable, NAKED CULLEN...  Inquisition is just so *much.*  And they borked the controls and the tactics...

If I could pull out bits of each game and stich them together, it would far outstripe any single one of them.  The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts.

Inquisition has the worst gameplay of any game i have played in recent history. That coupled with the terrible character ability/stat customization, MMO-tier quests, and lack of a cool villain... dAI is awful. Juat fyi, Corypheus is just stupid when you realize all they do is play cool music when he's on camera.

The problem with asking this question now is that the game is new. People are like kids with ADD, they ant the new shiny thing over the toys they had for years no matter how bad it sucks.

In a year or two when DAI is old and not being played, then maybe people will look back and have a clear view of the games. With DA still being brand new you will get alot of people saying they prefer DAI just because its the new thing.

Sorry to any fans but DAI is sub par to both previous games by far. Its characters are stale and plain. Its story has less of an impact and is less meaningful. The choices have no impact and the choices of the games prior have essentially no impact. (save for maybe Morrigan)

Your choices within you class are far less. Your customization is far less, the amount of armor and weapons is far less. Your investment in the characters and story is far less.

There are no tough choices, no real consequences for those choices, nobody will be sitting around years later asking what they best decisions were or what the best way to play was or anything like that. etc.

Origins is by far the superior game. It may be dated with its graphics and controls, but the story and the actual role playing had you much more invested and torn than any other game in the series.

Origins by far.

I also enjoyed DA2, and I'd rate Inquisition just as good as DA2 IF played on a console in a comfy sofa with a controller. However, on PC with a mouse and keyboard Inquisition is horrible to say the least - I feel like the elf with broken arms

Origins wins out because of the combat. DA2 comes in second for the same reason. While I love the exploration (not the herb picking), great graphics and a host of other things DAI does right, it dropped the combat ball.

It's hard to choose between the games but if I had to, I'd say I had the most fun playing DA2 so that's what I'm going to choose. DA:I would win otherwise, but the Inquisitor just wasn't as good a protagonist as Hawke and the story in DA2 was the most enjoyable for me. Both DA:O and DA:I have the generic Ancient Big Bad out to destroy the world  while the story in DA2 was much more personal as it revolved around Hawke and his/her family and friends.

Origins.  It just had a magic that is missing from the other two games.  I feel like Origins was a labor of love -- a game made from the soul and put out into the world for other people to enjoy.  It's just one of those things where the game had a clear identity, and success followed from its excellence.  I don't get this feeling when I play DAI or DA2.

Dragon age origins is the best for me personally. Dragon age inquisition took quite a few of steps back when it comes to the gameplay and the side content.

Origins is still King. It has the best story, the best characters, and the best gameplay. It's only major faults are it's 50 shades of brown graphics, and it's many bugs. Inquisition is huge and ambitious in scope and beautiful to look at, but it's tedious in the extreme to play; it's a triumph of presentation over substance, whereas Origins is the opposite.

Origins by a mile. Ten times better combat, a better core plot, and much, muuuuuuch better quest design.

I like the other two as well though, just less so.

I enjoyed all of them, but this one is fast becoming my favorite.  There are small things that could be fixed and may be fixed or things I don't really care about,  but on the whole, I like all the NPC's, all of the romances sound interesting and the story is good.

Quite happy with my purchase and plan on playing it for a long time.
