I never played DA2  so I have no idea on that one.  But you can put me in the camp of DAI.  The world is deeper, characters are richer, the music is engrossing, and I enjoyed the combat more than Origins.

DAO for me was huge let down in terms of game play, I was expecting something more on the order of NWN, and what I got was a "me too" MMO.  It felt like Guild Wars with a bigger budget.  DAO does have some major advantages, character attributes, tactics, and the modding community.  To me the modding community is where the magic of DAO comes in.  DAO was however our introduction to Thedas, and the story was great at the time. But game play was lame.

The original DAO combat felt like a kids game, meant for teenagers, who play WOW.  DAI is much better in terms of combat mechanics.  Yes the tactics are stripped down, but to me in DAO they were largely irrelevant anyway because that game was child's play.  It wasn't until the modders created advanced tactics that they really began to shine anyway. Melee characters were a bore to play in origins.  To me that game was mage or bust.    DAI actually presents a significant challenge for both melee and mages. The big knock on Inquistion is the lack of behavior options. The tactics from DAO feel like they need to be in play in DAI.  They feel necessary because of the combat mechanics and difficulty of nightmare but they are not there.

DA in general has been weak in terms of combat, but this game is a step in right direction.  Not quite there yet, tho. That may be because if I'm going to play a strategic combat game, then they need to go back to NWN.  If I'm going to play realtime, then I want to control action.  In origins you didn't control much, you just auto attack and hit hot keys which is like standing in the ring corner, yelling "hit em Rocky! Hit em!"  That's boring.  Sorry but it is.  And its old and worn out.

Lastly, the story lines, companion quest, dialog, environments are so far above and beyond anything DAO had, that the choice is quite clear to me.

I love DA:O...however as others have said, I find it difficult to finish a playthrough at this point. I've been contemplating making another run, however the thought of doing the Deep Roads again just makes me cringe. Thank goodness there's at least a skip the fade mod. I loved the memorable companions and the romances. I disliked not having a voiced protagonist (ME:1 did this right around the same time, so it wasn't a technology thing). The combat to me was also clunky and boring.

DA:2 was also good, however I felt that the companions weren't as memorable, nor were the romances. Even though we had a voiced protagonist, I didn't feel as attached to Hawke as I was to the Warden. Combat was much more fun (loved the animations), but I disliked the re-used landscapes.

My favorite of the series is Inquisition. Unlike what a lot of people complain about, I LOVE what they borrowed from Skyrim (probably because Skyrim is one of my favorite games). I love the open world - I love all the extra side stuff, even if it has nothing to do with the main plot. You can just walk around the countryside and find stuff to do, or get side-tracked from a specific quest when you come across something new. The game is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful, if you have a system that can run it (though I wish there was more of a balance between high-rez and low-rez textures together, for example a gorgeous face, but with low-rez hair and armor around it - that breaks immersion). I love the companions, and their variety of personalities and emotions. I love the idea that you can't just win their approval via gift-giving. I love that you can't see a running tally of where someone's approval is. The romances are also very well done, at least to me. I feel very attached to the IQ, unlike Hawke. I love the combat, though I can see why some people don't. I play MMO's, so this is probably why. I also don't rely heavily on tactics...I like to play in RT (again, with MMO's you can't pause combat).

So in summary:

1 - DA:Inquisiton

2 - DA:Origins

3 - DA:2

I think DA:I is a great hybrid of DA:O and DA:2 battle system and fundamentals. Just wish they would go back to the original bulky human looking character models, and not the slender looking ones #PeopleHaveShapes!

Currently about to start my 4th play through of the DA series before playing inquisition again. I'll chime back in later. :D

For me it's pretty close between Origins and Inquisition.

I liked the old combat system but I also think the new one is okay. I never really used tactics so that's nothing I can really judge the games about. Both games have some excellent characters you remember. Of course, Inquisition's world is far more beautiful than everything we saw before.

I still vote for Origins though. First of all, the final battle was much more epic; We get to actually see all the armies we gathered over the whole game and even some of the major characters on Fort Drakon's rooftop, which showed how our descisions mattered. It's also more dramatic with leaving you a choice in the end: Accepting the ritual or let one of your characters, possibly your own, die.<br>

Inquisition also showed some of our forces as new groups appeared in Skyhold, but we never really see them in action. The lives of the protagonists is never at any risk. When you get to Corypheus in the end it's just another battle, no armies, no descisions, no buildup to the final encounter.

I was also disappointed how every old location was either now shown or completely changed (and don't tell me they can rework an entire mountain in 11 years -> Haven), which made me feel a little alienated in my "home", Ferelden.

Origins for me, although DA:I isn't too far behind.

If DA:I had the class & skill system of DA:O (or at least something close to it), it would probably have ended up as my favorite but with the restrictive classes/skills... no way. And while I'm probably in the minority with this... I much prefer DA:O combat as it's less flashy/over the top.

In regards to comanpions, DA:I wins hands down, as well in terms of environments.

This is where I'm at with the exception of the companions. I think the origins companions were slightly better in that Origins was completely a heros's journey story (although most games fit that to a degree) and the companions were intrinsic to realizing that journey. The abillity to talk to them out in the game world while doing things felt more organic and led to a greater feeling of closeness and realism. I do love the Inquisition companions, though, and the game as a whole. Bioware had a lot to accomplish to get me back on board, and they absolutely did so. While I want more to return from Origins, I enjoyed the game greatly.

DAO first followed by DAI then DA2.  Would probably have DA2 over DAI were it not for the majority of the game being confined to 7 recycled areas and side quests that involved finding random objects and immediately knowing who it belonged to..
