Well, I'm in the minority here, but I find Hook and Tackle with the upgrade absolutely indispensible. H&T to close, pop Flask of Fire, Flank Attack to move behind enemy, spam Twin Fangs and Deathblow. I'm playing on Normal, though - it could suck on higher difficulties.
Thoughts on Hook and Tackle? Useful mobility tool or just a waste?

I just find evade better in every way. I could just evade at an enemy any time I thought hook and tackle would have been useful, and I can evade attacks while hook and tackle can not.

It seems like it might be useful if I was better at targeting it. As it is, when I'm out of range of twin fangs or whatever it seems like I'll miss half the time (either because of range or terrain) so I don't end up using it much
Could someone confirm for me if this means that the success of Hook&Tackle is dependent purely on player skill (aiming, timing, judging distance) as opposed to character skill (points in the skill, chance to connect based upon stat(s) eg dextrerity)?
I'm considering buying the game and am trying to determine how 'actiony' it is.

There's no character skill involved, like any projectile in the game it will always hit your target as long as it's in range. The player skill is more a matter of H&T being somewhat unreliable and learning to realize when it might bug out - like uneven terrain for example can make it not work.

There's no aiming, it's just a matter of range and if something is in the way. Unfortunately there's no range indicator.
Most skills it's not an issue. Either they're melee or long ranged enough that range isn't a problem. And Hook and Tackle seems more temperamental than most other skills about terrain getting in the way for whatever reason.

It's fun as a trap laying artificer.
Roll up, plant a spike trap and watch people fly.
