Krem is a man, he was born in a female body but identifies as male. The term is transmale. He's a man.

I thought he was meant to be a really young guy, hence the voice, but once I got into Skyhold and he talked about "binding"- That's when I got the "OHHHH" moment.
I have a few trans friends myself but they're all MtF. I think Bioware did a good job with Krem.

It's funny that considering sissies and MtF transgenders are much more common in real life, Bioware still went with an FtM transgender. And it goes over pretty well. I have my doubts the same would be true if it had been an MtF transgender.
Of course, can't be certain of that until Bioware actually does it.
