I gotta say....Blackwall's romance is quite possibly the best in the game. (HUGE SPOILERS)

Those races are booked out I'm afraid. I planned on playing 4 times, I romanced Josephine with a male human, Sera with a Female Dwarf, now I'm stuck between Blackwall or Solas for my female elf, then I'm stuck between Cass or Dorian for a male Qunari. Maybe I will make a female Qunari and pick Blackwall instead.

Do it.  It's the best romance ever.  Plus, a naked female Qunari lying on a bunch of fur rugs in a barn is....

Then go with Solas. The amount of stuff about elves his romance adds is worth it.

You might say it was because of the great rollplaying opportunities with the companion and how you chose to have the companion/relationship progress (or not).....

But, it was the beard wasn't it?

There is such power in DA beards.

All kidding aside, he was my first DAI romance with my elf quizzy.  And I have to agree with your points, there are many options as a quizzy that you can take with his character that you can't with the others (4 options! and then the romance options on top of that for two of them) .

Although I am trying the Cullen romance this playthrough and am intrigued with the whole lyrium issue (very glad that BW made that a point of his character arc).

Thought Dorian's personal quest was also very powerful.....but my mage quizzy was all like "THAT's what this is about? Both of you get over yourselves already." Will see how it plays out when romanced.

But I haven't gone through all the companions yet, but what I'm getting from their personal quests so far, the rest of the companion choices seem to be very binary.

Do they have the same surgically (magically??) enhanced breasts as the female dwarf? Haha.

Even tho I have never liked Blackwall's appearance, there is just something about him....I keep ending up flirting with him, up until I realize how much he's into my Inquisitor - and I generally stop because I've already decided to commit to Solas or Cullen.

Someday, I will romance him. I hope its really as good as you say. Cos I'm definitely intrigued, even knowing his entire storyline.

Ouch.   I think I felt that through the computer screen.

Aww, that was supposed to come off a supportive... My bad. Some game forums are filled with viscious immature children was all I meant, to whom a post like this would be red meat.

On another note, I can't seem to find the spoiler button in the editor on this new forum. Where the heck is it?

But...it is requited.   Do you mean "unconsummated"? Because that's left open to interpretation.

I can see you not liking it if you just want a normal, drama-free romance for once (and Cullen delivers excellently in that regard), but there are a lot of layers to Solas's romance. It's adorably sweet and sad and wistful, and it makes the main story a lot more poignant.

I love that you need to clarify that you are a straight guy, OP.

Eh....yeah, now that I rethink that, I probably could have left that part out.  Oh well.  Didn't mean anything by it.

....there a way to edit topic titles?

What's wrong with identifying yourself as a straight guy? It's likely that Blackwell's romance was not targeted at the straight male gamer, so letting people know that you enjoyed it isn't completely irrelevant information. I always smile when my husband tells me that his favorite DAO romance is Alistair.

We're in agreement about the Blackwell romance, though. I loved it for the same reasons you did. Yes, I wish there had been more dialogue after the reconciliation because it might have been fun to actually have to work on rebuilding the trust... but it would have been a fun extra. I mean, it isn't as if he's got any more secrets like that hanging around.

Also, it's refreshing to come in here and read something positive about Blackwell. :)

I wasn't expecting Blackwall to be a romance option so I was beyond excited when it was confirmed, even though I was disappointed he was female-only. Even though I generally play as females anyway, it would have been amazing if my planned male Trevelyan had been able to choose him.

But yes, his romance is great. Complicated and heavy at times, given his story, but some very sweet moments too.

Ahhh, I see where you're coming from. Yeah, that part's bittersweet. I'm kinda counting on Bioware including...something in DLC. Some sort of reunion. Because it basically stopped right at the climax. And that epilogue felt very much like a "stay tuned".

Blackwall is too emo for me.  He--and people in general that do the same thing--need to stop saying things like, "I'm bad for you."  "This will not end well."  "It's for your own good [that we are not together.]"

Now, it's not saying those things per se that galls me, it's the stopping at that and NOT GIVING ANY FURTHER INFORMATION and playing the oh-I'm-so-mysterious part that pisses me off.  Seriously if you loved me so much, how come I don't know anything more about you than any random Joe?

DIAF please.  This is all just mind games.  OK, I do tend to fall into the (more or less female) trap of wanting to heal a lost wounded soul with my love.  So, knowing that, he's going to lure me in, not tell me SH*T, and then be all like: "Well it's not like I didn't warn you" when it all blows up in everybody's face.

Grow a pair and either tell the truth and let the girl make up her own mind, or leave her the hell alone.  "I need YOU to end this."--Please, you KNOW she's not going to do that.  Again, either grow a pair and tell her WHY she needs to end this, or end it yourself.

I love Alistair's romance too, your husband is not alone.  :P
I also call Blackwall 'Blackwell' because that's what my local book shop is called haha.

Only 4 times?  Sheesh, I had over 2300 hours in Skyrim and probably 20 Dragonborns before I stopped playing that.  26 Commander Shepards in ME1 and ME2 (only 3 made it to ME3, though).  20 or so Wardens, at least that many Hawkes, with a few Ezios, Delsins and Sam Fishers thrown in for good measure.  Why limit yourself to 4?

@Camenae: Technically, he tells you later that he had every intention of telling the whole truth when you went to the Storm Coast to find the badge but that when you found the badge first, he just lost his nerve. I can still see being mad at him, though.

At any rate, I quite enjoyed it as being one of the more dramatic romances - the fact that you can say "I never loved you." in prison (if you're furious with him) and his refusal to believe it during the judgment was interesting, as were the other options and dialogue. Anyhow, it seems like I almost always manage to pick the guy with the most drama and angst - heh.

I was the same with Mass Effect, DA:O and DA:2! It's just that I have it for Xbox 360, and there are so many glaring issues (Those texture issues, those damn texture issues) that I want to get a next-gen console before I play it too much. That probably sounds odd, but there ya go haha.

Blackwall did spout a lot of the typical "manpain" phrases (I don't deserve you, I'm not worthy of you, etc.), but Blackwall's "manpain" was pretty unique.  With a lot of the "manpain" types, you get dudes who are victims of circumstance and who were powerless and that's why they brood.  But with Blackwall, you instead find a man who hates himself intensely because he truly was a monster, not because he was like the above-mentioned victims of circumstance.  He was the guy who made these victims of circumstance -- he was the villain.

But now, especially with the light of the Inquisitor (romanced or not) in his life, he truly wants to change his ways and do things right.  The questions you are posed with: Is it too late for him to atone?  Is his death satisfactory?  Or can he be redeemed? It's a really awesome narrative to me.

I have 4 main Quizzies for the 4 main voice actors, and while I'll play it more times than that, I think they'll feel the most distinct ones, so I can definitely understand only playing it 4 times and only seeing 4 romances.

I haven't tried to do a second VA PT with a different character yet, but I've seen YT videos of an elf with my dwarfs voice, and it felt confusing. THATS HER VOICE!

I romanced Blackwall during my second play through and I'm really on the fence how I feel about him. I like the concept of his character and I agree the number of options you have open with him are interesting. I just feel like there is a missing piece of the story that needs to be there to tie it all together especially after the revelation.

I didn't feel like there was enough shown in their romance to portray the depth of emotion that these two must feel for each other to overcome the scandal of his past. I felt like there was too much left up to head cannon to make up for it.

I personally felt like there was stronger love between Cullen and my inquisitor than Blackwall. Considering the huge risk you take with Blackwall to continue the romance there should have been a bit more to their story to flesh it out. Just one more cutscene I think really would have won me over.

Taking the whole lying, murdering bit out of the equation I still felt like he didn't treat my Inquisitor that well. Ladies generally don't do it in barns!

But I'm happy that other people have enjoyed his romance. He is a really interesting character just not my first choice for a LI

Sure they do. But doing it in a barn with no doors in the middle of a courtyard is a bit much. ;)

I'll be interested in how my inquisitors of different backgrounds turn out to relate to him. My male noble found what he did to his men unforgivable and related more to the familly he murdered than him. My others may feel differently.

I used the British voice for both my female dwarf and elf, that woman's voice is enchanting haha

I get what you mean though, I see videos with Qunari with the British voice and I'm like... eh??

I get this. The character in my first playthrough tends to be the one I feel most strongly about, so it's weird to hear their voice elsewhere. I wish the female run didn't bug me so much. Being able to have female inquisitors would largely solve that problem.

How did your inquisitor feel about Leliana? She murders a priest in cold blood over politics, never feels a moment's regret over it, and you can go on to make her Divine!

But yeah, one of the things I like about Blackwell is that he is *not* looking for a get out of jail free card. He committed the crime before he met the Inquisitor, he doesn't try to weasel out of it, and whether you free him, send him to the Wardens, or make him an Inquisition slave, he spends the rest of his life seeking atonement.
