Can I move forward?

Ok i have a question.

I am in the hinterlands and did all the quests that were down to the south and southeast of the main starting camp. Im now heading north and northwest and im running into an issue. I hit a rift that all of a sudden spiked in difficulty and I cant complete it yet. It has some sort of ghost or something that comes out and jumps/floats around. I can get it down to almost dead with no issue within seconds, but then it seems to become some super ghost and kicks everybody's butt in a heartbeat...lol

I also ran into the dragon that I cant beat yet, just taking on more than one drakeling at a time can be a pain.

(btw i play in full action mode without pauses, and without changing characters. Its just how i like to play)

Now my question is, i earned enough power to open up all the other areas available to me at the time. Even one in Orlais.

Will it mess up my game or will i miss something if i move ahead to another area and then come back to the Hinterlands in a few levels or so?

Will progressing the story cut me off from doing certain things in the hinterlands, or maybe move time forward and say so and so died because i didnt get there to save them...kind of thing?

Thanks all

If you haven't gone to Orlais that's the next thing to do since you get two companions there.  I think you're suppose to leave some things for later in the Hinterlands.  Have you gone to Redcliffe village yet?

No if i head up north i hit the dragon and the rift i cant complete yet. I have gotten slightly past that point by sneaking by but just far enough to set up my next camp..lol.

I havent done anything but the hinterlands so far, but like i said i opened up, i think 3 or 4 other areas that i havent touched yet. One of them being Orlais.

Or go to the Storm Coast. Yes, move on! It'll be fun.

It won't mess up anything. Head to Val Royeaux for Sera. I'm not romancing her this time but I think she is a great character.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I was getting so sick of the hinterlands...lol

No problem! It will be more fun to revisit the Hinterlands (should you choose to) with a variety of companions. :)

That one rift in Hinterlands has level 12 enemies, it should be left alone at low levels.
