Never got the appeal of Alistair so Cullen I have to say.

Romance'd neither, but i feel like Alistair didn't grow as much as a character as Cullen did.

Well, we didn't see enough of Alistair to properly compare his growth to Cullen's. But he did stood up to Clarel and went rogue instead of sticking around and making snide comments like he probably would have 10 years ago.

Didn't see that outcome, in my world state he's king and still uses his Origins-style jokes in official correspondence.

Of course. I should stop assuming that other people have the same world state as I do :) I haven't seen King!Alistair, but Warden!Alistair seems more grounded and responsible than his DAO self while his sarcastic side still shines through.

Considering that Alistair leaves in DAO if you spare Loghain, and is so offended by the idea of Loghain joining the Wardens, I rather doubt he would have accepted anything the Wardens did in DAI, even 10 years ago. With him it's not just about wanting revenge for Duncan, it's also that he has such an exalted view of the Wardens that he doesn't believe that Loghain deserves the honor of joining them.

I imagine the DAI events are quite the reality check for a Warden Alistair. When you talk to him about the Wardens in DAO he does say that "'whatever it takes' can mean some pretty extreme things," so he's not clueless. But it's one thing to think that and another entirely to see it first hand, and to see those methods nearly destroy the order you value so highly.

He doesn't think Loghain deserves the honor exactly because he's the reason most of Wardens are dead and the remaining two are hunted throughout Fereldan. However if Riordan offered something shady that didn't involve Loghain I'm not sure Alistair would've left. After all, he can be persuaded to do the Dark Ritual and that's shady as hell.

I wonder if his extreme distrust of Clarel's actions stems on some level from his templar training. He didn't become a full templar, but I suppose not even 10 years of wardening can override the 'blood magic=bad' dogma

Even after romanicing Cullen twice already, I'd still go with Alistair.

Cullen is a good and mature man, but I just fail to see my Inq beeing as special to him as the Warden was special for Alistair. He totally made me feel that way.

I also love him for beeing so imperfect :) I had him as a Warden on my playthrough. And I like how he matured so far.

Alistair and Garrus still unbeatable for me) (sorry, I just had to mention Garrus, been havin nostalgia lately)

Interesting. Do you think you might feel differently if Cullen had pursued your Quis a bit more? On my Cullen romance play I did all of the flirting and kept waiting and waiting... then I finally just picked the conversation that started the romance (which was sadly after the Winter Palace, so no Cullen dancing for me). The only other person I've romanced so far is Dorian, so my perspective might be a bit off considering how his unfolds in relation to his quests.

Well...To some degree, yes. But it's not just that. I felt more invested in Alistair romance for a number of reasons I guess. First of all, I felt like the story itself kind of brings you closer together, he's there for you from the beginning. Then, you get much more opportunity to know the character better, to see different layers to it. And well, yes, Alistair had more initiative in the matter ^_^ That beeing said, I just like his character in general too.

With Cullen, it is a bit like an arrangement. I love the man, don't get me wrong, but his character is a bit too even. I'd like to see more sides of him. Which isn't helping that he's stuck in that keep) Also, it would be nice if he could throw a line here and there on his own, without my Quis helping him) I.e. before you throw yourself at Coripheyshit in Haven.Personally I was expecting for him to show up at her doorstep at some point.  :D

Btw, I agree to you saying Alistair and Dorian are a bit alike, at least from what I've seen about his romance and such. That's probably why he would have been my first choice if available. I might try him on my male playthrough, but beeing a girl myself, I am not sure I can relate

That was one thing I didn't like about Cullen's romance--you always had to go to him. A girl likes to be sought out sometimes just cos the guy is thinking about her. It would have been nice if Cullen had gone to her chambers at some point.

I just get the feeling that he's actually too shy for it. It's a bit in his character. While Alistair can extrovertly chase over the Warden, Cullen's the kind of guy who bite his tounge and think of 1000 excuses why it's a bad idea. I imagine he belives that's he's not good enough or things like that. And falling in love with your boss... might not be the best idea if you're in the subordinate position. Alistair-Warden was on more equal ground.

I haven't flirt with anyone except Cullen so I don't know whether there are any companions who flirts back & take first step in DA:I.

Lol, I come here to talk about Cullen but go to the Cullen thread to talk about GOT.

I am not sure about the other companions either. I do love Cullen's romance, more so than Alistair's. Cullen is just my type of guy. Someone I could make flustered at the drop of the hat before he catches on to what I am doing. Loyal, kind, protective, intelligent and not completely serious all the time. He is great. I like his shyness yet love his confidence once he knows things are on. I just want to high five him in his stupid handsome face! Ahmmm *cough*.

But I kind of imagine him more to just be too busy. I'd say 99% of the time he fails at remembering to take some time for himself so it is our job to give him that. It would have been cool if random items of his started turning up in your chambers from time to time, just to give the impression that he had actually been up there.

Cullen beeing shy is a valid point, and it really is in his character. But personally I'd like at least some hints of emotions from him. As I said, the moment you leave the chantry in Haven to save all those poor souls.. A bit more concern or smth... And when flirting with him in Haven, I didn't feel that much of a flirting rather than my elf asking him rather inappropriate questions

Beeing a boss though.. She is a stranger that randomly got caught in the circumstances just like the rest. At the beginning they are all equal with advisors beeing higher in position than Inq. It's those same advisors that chose to give the Inquisition in your hands.. Doesn't really count as beeing a boss to me.

It's similiar to Alistair chosing to give you the leading role in the upcomming events

@Boomshakalakalakaboom random items sound good <_<

Alistair is Dragon Age for me and the rest of the original crew. I imagine that romancing king or warden Alistair now would be even more delicious. But i wouldnt want him to be a romance option now. He is in a happy mature relationship with my cousland. It would make me sad if he romances someone else even if its my pc.

I havent played cullen romance yet but i read its sweet too.

If 5 years ago I could've romanced them side by side, I would've said Alistair. My personality reflected a more clumsy, fun kind of romance. Now, it's cullen all the way. I mean, I know they developed inquisition to be the introduction to the series for some people, but I think they took into account their...*ahem* aging... fanbase as well. I haven't played all the romances yet, but they all seem to have a mature/darker implication.

But I still prefer Alistair... Maybe it's a subtle hint that I should grow up :D
