It was at 42% when I checked.
I will fully cop to not understanding what people see in Dark Souls on any day - but I really can't see why anyone would play it over Dragon Age: Any Of 'Em. Just don't get it.
Open voting is a kind of silly way to decide. I mean, I'd vote for Dragon Age, but then I haven't played the others. Though I really should get Divinity
Bayonetta would be hurt by only being on Wii U I guess
goty should consist of something that brings forth innovation. dai doesn't do that. the game takes a simple formula of rinse and repeat filler content and throws it into a semi-open world. the nemesis system is innovation. it brings potential change to how games can be made in the future. while dai may be a good game, it has too many issues to be worthy of the title.

Exclusive games shouldn't be candidates for GOTY imo. GOTY games should be cross platform.
That's why last year I supported GTA V for GOTY instead of The Last of Us, even though I enjoyed TLOU more. (what can I say? I'm a junkie of games with strong narrative/story)
I can speak for Divinity. It is awesome. For anyone that grew up on games like Baldur's gate, Torment, Icewind Dale, Temple, or any other isometric RPG, Divinity is the game for you. No joke, its one of the best PC RPG's I've played since....well..... the Baldur's Gate series.
However, my vote would go to Dragon Age. Its just such a solid game!

While it's obviously subjective - I would say that setting, story, writing, characterization in DAI are several thousand years ahead of SoM. Those count for something.

+1
Also, the last 3 year GOTY's didn't bring any innovation worth mentioning and I didn't see anyone complaining about it.
well it sure wont be DESTINY! HAW, HAW!
Look at the contenders.... it hasn't been a great year IMHO.
DAI is a good game, and it's certainly expansive. It's got some "rough edges" that I hope are addressed over time.
Damn shame they didn't have dropin/out coop for the main story.
Some of those I have yet to play so unfortunately I cant vote. Decent group though.

If you're trying to compare tolkien lore to dragon age, it's not going to be an easy argument. I'll give you the setting though, DA does this much better. But what does DAI add that's new to it's genre? I mean, when a game does something completely new and innovating, it deserves respect. SoM might not be the best action game, but Nemesis behind tolkien lore should edge it out.

Hence subjective. I've had these fights on this board before. I grew up on Tolkien and always loved it, but I now infinitely prefer Thedas (which obviously took plenty of inspiration from Tolkien itself) for a number of reasons outside the scope of this thread. Nemesis was awesome, but the story is eh and the protagonist is Troy Baker. I mean, really.

My husband is a huge Tolkien fan lore-nerd.
After learning about the Nemesis system and the main character there is no way he would pick up the game.
Something about the mind control aspect.....don't recall what he said, he started rambling and my brain shut down.

It's like I said in the other thread, although I liked SoM and think Nemesis system is a great mechanic (that I hope it is explored by other future games), it's not exactly the new "Holy Grail". What I mean is, although it is great, it could do only so much... As soon you finish the main story, the only thing holding you to the game is the Nemesis system, and it grows old pretty quickly... (at least for me anyway)
As for DA:I, not only takes dozens of hours to complete the first playthrough, it makes you want to replay at least a second time with another class/race/gender. While SoM doesn't. Replay value is also very important.
I'd put Mordor above DAI in all honesty. While I don't "hate" DAI, I just don't think it's GOTY material.
Divinity won't win any popularity contests ofc because nobody played it and it doesn't have a big enough marketing budget for the press to bother hyping it, but it's comfortably the better game.
I'd put Mordor and Inquisition roughly equal -though with very different strengths and weaknesses- and I haven't played the other two.
Any other year and I don't think Inquisition is even in the conversation tbh. Very weak year for gaming this year.
True story. If every game delivered what they promised, I think we would have an interesting contest between Destiny and Watch Dogs.

nah divinity is a good game, especially the combat and because it was developed with no controler in mind, but it has its flaws too. balance, story, writing, presentation are mediocre at best. if i would vote, i would vote for divinity, not because its the better game but because its a little studio which developed with pc in mind. more a sign for other publishers as a real judgement of the game
I would choose Divinity.DAI is good and beat my expectations for it, but D:OS just had a certain charm to it that DAI doesn't.
Never trusted open voting in any kind of awards, usually whichever has the biggest fan base wins.Surprised Dark souls 2 doesn't have a higher percentage of votes.

I was tempted to try out Baldur's Gate, but if it is anything like Divinity + poorer graphics, it is not meant for me. It starts out well but the shallowness of the story and characters gets exposed after the first map.

I'd vote for Divinity myself-- but that has more to do with how poor a year 2014 was for gaming than merits of the game itself.
