I'm bored and not completely happy with what I've imported into DAKeep. I've beat Inquisition in about 70 hours (played a human archer), but I've since deleted that save as I wasn't happy with the end results. I'd like to start an elven character because I've always played human and I'd like to go through both Origins and DA2. Sadly, I can't use an elf in 2, but I'd like to keep the class the same through out.

So which class makes more sense lore wise? Which class is more unique dialogue wise? I've played mostly warriors through my games, either would be new. Does blood mage make sense for an elven character? Which should I choose?

Mages get extra options here and there, so if that's important to you, play a mage. I'm currently playing an elven mage in my second playthrough and I think it may be the class/race combination most suited to the story. Add points if you're playing a woman and romance Solas.

BTW, there is no blood mage specialization.

I was happy with my Elven mage in Inquistion. The story seemed to suit the character.

I've always played an elven dual wield rogue. The city elf origin in DAO is my favorite. That being said, I think an elven mage might be more tied to the overall plot of the trilogy. Also, the rogues tend to be the most fun party members (banter wise) so if you like a balanced party it may be better to go with a mage. Awakening with Nate, Anders and Sigrun is amazingly fun. Awakening with Oghren, Justice and Velanna, not so much.

So, elf rogue pro: great origin in DAO, con: may feel you have to skip taking rogue companions.

Elf mage pros: get to fill the party with rogues, mage/Templar conflict more personal, con: none, really.

As far as Origins goes, the mage is a fine choice- I played an elven mage my first play through and loved every second of it. She was my canon for a long time. Underdog all the way.

In the second game though it just makes sense lorewise to be a mage (although it doesn't always make sense in-game- templars never really noticing being the big wtf moment) regardless I loved being a mage in DA2 far too much- love the spells and Carver always fighting with me, there were great scenes with he and my mage Hawke.

All In all I'm basically advocating mage to you. Never boring.
Plus if you're gonna be shooting at range, you might as well be slinging fireballs!

I had a blast playing an Elven archer in Inquisition. Plus, as Electrica said, the story really does suit an Elven character at points.

Whatever you do, play a female elf. Male elf inquisitors suffer from MDAS* and can be painful to watch for longer lengths of time.

Since you already played archer, I suggest you go with a female mage, pick the Rift Mage specialization, and always bring Solas along for a pair-bonding adventuring style based around the best practices of nuke 'em till they glow, then shoot 'em in the dark. Twice the Rift Mages, twice the fun!

This means two out of four characters will be concentrating on stacking crit like there's no tomorrow, which makes it tempting to use Varric as the third member if you didn't do it in your first playthrough, since his Artificer spec just loves when other people crit, and other people who like crits like him giving them a 5% crit bonus.

For the fourth member somebody with a mop to clean up after the Rift Mages nuke the world. Heck, you could choose a warrior going 2H tanking focusing on crits too or a second rogue. It is hard to imagine that you need anybody to sword and board tank with such damagedealing setup and dual barriers.

* MDAS: Mutant Deformed Arms Syndrome. A horrible affliction of male elves' upper arms since release. The less bulky armour you wear, the more obvious it is.

Both classes are tremendous fun. Archers are awesome, but mages have more plot-related conversations. I was finally able to talk as a mage on equal terms with other mages, even got approval points from Solas for telling him something along the lines of "I'm a mage, Solas, I know this". Non-mage elves only get plot conversations for their race.

So if you are looking for more relevance to the plot, elven mage is the best imo.
